Yeah... So how about that new copyright crackdown folks? Folks don't seem to like it. To be honest, I don't really think it affects us (cause you know, we non profit and shiz) but I think the outcome of this mess could and probably will affect us in the future.

While I hate to say it because i like guys like angry joe, relying on youtube as your sole source of income was fool hardy in most cases. They should have been in constant preparation in case that site's policies ****ed them over.

I think we just need to get back to a position of reasonable approach, bring back fair use and all that. It's one thing to own an idea so that people don't make money off of your work. It's quite another to expect to be paid every time someone makes mention of it. No, Donald Trump should not be paid royalties every time someone says "You're fired".

Doesn't Vimeo have a way to monetize videos? Mass exodus to Vimeo!

Vimeo does not allow video game footage to be uploaded unless it's a Machinima or something. If you're not too concerned about wasting your money, you should use your own hosting.

I'm losing more and more faith in humanity by the day....

Not because of what youtube is doing, BTW, but because people are STILL surprised that youtube is doing it :|

I don't think it's so much surprise as it is 'oh, these morons are still at this'.

As N.P.C.C. said, relying on YouTube solely for making an income has always been a very uncertain way of living. That's why the YT celebrities expand their sources of income through ways beyond YouTube's reach: merchandise, a standalone website, donations, company networks, Twitch, among others.

This surely does bring back the issue of Fair Use and Copyright into the eyes of the public, if only a little. In the short term, I believe this can be an effective way of discouraging your typical "regular Joe" from trying to make an easy buck out of playing video games. It takes at least some real dedication and entrepreneurial knowledge to make it big, after all, not just a capture device, an expensive mike, a top-end computer, and some crossed fingers.

I wish real life really was that easy. I wouldn't mind making some money just by playing a game and talking to myself xP

kinda, except I don't usually talk to myself while gaming. I would talk to myself a lot more often if I were doing it for a Let's Play or something.
