It&#39;s not just the style. A monkey sort of becomes a sensei of the main character, there&#39;s a guy 5xbiggger than Shaq - and that is just the beginning. Hear my warning - the contents of this anime can be... hm... disturbing :D

It&#39;s during the Second World War in rural Finland. A little girl (that I remembered as being called Karin) lives with her father or grandfather, while the mother who&#39;s a German has not been seen since the war broke out.
When the (grand)father gets sick, she takes work at a major farm a couple of days away, after working hard to get the (grand)father to allow her to. there she is looked down upon by may, but works hard and befriends the son there. Slowly she gains the respect of other people in the village.

Something like that (it&#39;s a couple of years since I saw some of it), there can be only on fitting this desciption, but I don&#39;t remember the title.

From what I have seen so far it is good. It originated as a visual novel by Key, and their works are awesome (Clannad, Kanon popular ones)
