Yeah, I&#39;d been putting it off for a while and just recently got around to watching it. I&#39;m only 3 or 4 episodes in, I&#39;ll probably start back up again sometime soon. ^_^

As for &#39;Selfish Fairy Mirumo&#39; I wouldn&#39;t say the same (not worth buying to me) :/ &#39;Bottle Fairy&#39;, &#39;Risky Safety&#39;, and &#39;Shinigami no ballad&#39; are better shows if you are looking for cute/fun child like shows. (Bought the first two, own the art book for the last title even though the show is so-so as compared to others.)

Looks somewhat like Takumi Mayama from Honey Clover, but the hair style (and color for that matter) aren&#39;t quite right.

Yeah, ADV put it out. They did something weird with the dub, though--instead of translating it directly, they made a strange comedy dub, with lines like, "I&#39;m crying because these pajamas are so gay!" and "Why do all Principals look like lesbians?" and stuff. Very funny, but if you compare it to the original, correctly-translated subtitles, they kinda butchered it.

The uniforms, art style, and directing screamed &#39;Dead Leaves&#39; so I guessed immediately. Afterward I had to take a closer look at the main character because of the angle. I was hoping (?) a &#39;dril p0n15&#39; would have been in there for some reassurance >_>

I actually considered Dead Leaves and Offspring&#39;s &#39;When You&#39;re in Prison&#39; (for AMV Hell 4) except after thinking about it I scraped it without a second thought because I didn&#39;t immediately have anything allowing for something amazing that would hit hard. (ie. the direction would have had to make up for the songs I had, which wouldn&#39;t be worth the time.)

The anime is parody based thus; the episodes can be hit or miss depending on the individual (viewer?s knowledge and personal preferences).

It?s not as random/insane (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8297/hardcorekr8.jpg) as ?Excel Saga?, and there is a ?plot? which touches ?coming of age? (and a bit on the human condition and escapism), but that shouldn?t be the only motivation. Also beware, as the anime has a somewhat repetitive formula (http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/8417/wrongfs7.jpg), so one might need to take it in pieces over time.

I was turned away for a while (after about halfway), but revisited it and then finished watching the show. I defiantly laughed (http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/5692/indianagf3.jpg), and from time to time I re-watch select episodes with friends. That?s what you should get out of it.

Speaking of the Jaws reference... Here?s a sample:

A highrise building modeled after Die Hard, housing about a dozen or so characters, half of them naked, are tossing oxygen tanks at Jaws, who is riding towards them in a Tornado. Jaws eats about 30 something tanks, at which point everyone breaks out a machine gun and unloads, causing the building to partially blow up, sliding away like in Titanic, when the characters fall and bounce off the propellers, and... but you get the picture. It`s stupid, it`s insane, and I couldn`t stop laughing.

Both the TV show and the OVA made it to the US, though the OVA is probably the one that is seen in retail stores most often.

(While this anime may feel somewhat obscure, you&#39;ll find that the character designer has been involved with the production of several other well known anime.)

Hmm, You are on the right track ...

One of the individuals involved with the animation for the Escaflowne Movie, was the final character designer for the OVA in question.

(While you were probably correct to have &#39;dismissed&#39; Escaflowne, it seems your initial intuitions were dead on. 8) Don&#39;t wander too far off ;) )

The original character designer was in full control of the designs for the TV series. Then a decade or so later the OVA was completed, but this time the original character designer was not directly in charge of the OVA&#39;s (animation) designs.


Keep your aim set on anime relying heavily on mecha elements.
You may eventually find that the original character designer&#39;s style (the screenshot from the TV series) will help when considering a potential title/artist.

The director and script writer has worked a lot in the past with a ?very popular studio?, and this movie is said to have reflected that experience.
The art director for this movie was also in charge of design, and he has been an art director for several productions from the same ?popular studio? mentioned above.
The name of the ?popular studio? mentioned above was NOT affiliated with this movie?s production, but should help with finding the director/designer.

This movie was done by MADHOUSE and Miyazaki wasn&#39;t involved, but...

The art_director/designer for this movie was also an art director for &#39;Mononoke Hime&#39;, &#39;Neko no Ongaeshi&#39;, and &#39;Umi ga Kikoeru&#39; (and also worked on several other Studio Ghibli movies).

The director/script_writer of this movie was one of the art supervisors for &#39;Mononoke Hime&#39; and again several other Ghibli movies.

Since it seems likely no one has seen it, its time for a more telling screenshot.

The movie relays its message using a simple story of a cyclist.


Pepe is a Spanish cyclist competing in an multi-stage Iberian cycling race similar to the Tour de France. He is a support rider for one of the teams competing in the race, and his role is to assist the team&#39;s top rider in winning the overall race. As the story unfolds, the racers are set to ride through Pepe&#39;s home town in Andalusia on the same day as the wedding of his elder brother Angel to his former girlfriend Carmen. Their relationship was a factor in his decision to leave the town to pursue professional cycling, and the wedding is a frustrating reminder that his career hasn&#39;t turned out as he would have liked. Now, with the sponsor planning to drop him from the team and his family and friends cheering him on, Pepe abandons his assigned role and strives for glory.

Looks like the next fastest person gets to take over.

At first I had a GunXSword feeling .. but the character on its face is the Mauser clan from Scrapped Princess. I never watched more then three episodes of GunXSword, but I pretty sure its not GunXSword. If it is Scrapped Princess, it?s defiantly a good scene to pick from to make it a bit more challenging. And I haven&#39;t watched the end of Scrapped Princess, since the first of the fansubing community finished it.

However, I am reading the Novels.. actually, I&#39;m nearing the end of the second one and will probably finish today. (Even though I bought the first two as soon as TOKYOPOP made it possible to pre-order through RightStuf online. :-[) They are really quick reads, big text, simple diction, some of its great, some &#39;so so&#39;. (Only a bit of new material: like the crossdressing Shannon o_O&#39; )

Actually, scrapped princess is probably it. I&#39;d need to borrow my friends DVDs to be 100% sure. :-\ (Thats kinda&#39; sad, maybe I&#39;ll rewatch some of it after I finish the third novel. I did give it a decent rating.)

Edit: Heh , now I see why I thought it was GunXSword .. the Art Designer for Scrapped Princess did some Color Design for GunXSword. Gut instinct on the coloring was dead on, but the Mauser character should make it Scrapped Princess. Even if you have seen it recently, nice catch DicyDax. ;D

Next time you put up a link to a photo, don&#39;t leave the photo named by the series, if you right click on it and hit properties it says it is "Scrapped princess 16" or something like that. just to let you know.

If he&#39;s not back with an image in 20 hours its probably ok for someone else to take over. :-\ Or, if you believe it wasn&#39;t fair game you could just post another. Its up to you. You could wait a little bit, or begin the next one, or pass it to someone random, whatever works.

Heh, yeah it might be a good idea to change that! I guess if you have to, you should save the images to your computer then upload them to some free image hosting site. (Probably want to change the name in between.)

ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.net/) isn&#39;t too bad for random image hosting. I&#39;m not sure you even need to enter your e-mail address. It will give you a page that you can find the urls for the Direct Links (near the bottom), then you can use the image tags like you have been.

Edit: So speaking of Gun X Sword, a friend happened to share this clip with me a year or so ago. Its prety bad (youtube) (skip to around 39sec) nsfw-ish (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atScfGHEqoQ) , but for some the last few lines (before the closing) may be worth it. Har har bad puns. I wonder if that was representative of the original show? o_O

I have a ton of screen caps left over from animes I&#39;ve profiled for www.keyframeonline.com. So the one time I got lucky, I used one of them.

All of mine have been my own screenshots. If I see some directing or art that stands out, I&#39;ll save it. I also save bits from scenes I found funny/enjoyable which sometimes sum up a lot of what?s happening in one shot. Its also fun to save dialogue that can be taken out of context (or is funny), or stuff that could be used in another project (reviews, art stuff etc). I&#39;ve been picking from a few random folders on my computer, but for Nasu I had to take a few new shots.
