I agree, Arock you must remain red.
I guess
No just .. No
Yes
Not at all
Kinda
If having superior taste means looking like an asshole, then so be it.
So you're saying that it didn't plagiarize that much because the Kamen Rider series from 2004 had bad special effects and cheesy suit acting? Because that's all I'm getting from you after having to reread your post multiple times.
I'm partial to blue.
I agree, Arock you must remain red.
[QUOTE=Backmask;453849]Actually, the anime is pretty ****ing bad, and the general hate from it doesn't stem from the Kamen Rider plagiarism. The plagiarism is just something extra to be thrown into the criticism.
Oh boy, you guys are at it again, huh? I'm not getting involved in this because I don't feel like dealing with such a huge thread, but I will say that after watching the first episode of Kamen Rider Ryuki that it was pretty damn awful. Having not watched much of the series I can't make any fair comparisons or whatnot (except each has a bunch of sickening Japanese cliches), but I'm done with the series but still have patience for Madoka somehow. Think of me what you will!
Oh, but for a Madoka memory we can both enjoy...
Spoiler!
EDIT: Okay, I got "involved" clearly, but I'm probably not going to pursue this conversation. Whatever, you knew what I meant.

Arocks colors are obviously red and pink. Red like a cherry, and pink like an anal sleeve. It fits him perfectly. He must be red.
I would've voted for blue as well, but I saw we were already at 3 votes for red and didn't bother.
Just when you thought I couldn't become any more conceited.

Alright, I'm a total lying faggot and I'm chiming in. This is at Guthix, who I can't quote because he accidentally put his response in another quote. The argument that anime should be spared criticism for doing stupid crap that gets attention because it has the mask of super-deformed candy-colored cuteness to appeal to man-children is a crappy argument (don't get me wrong, we all clearly like anime here). Then you go and reference FLCL as an example for the argument and go so far as to needlessly define it as something that pays no heed to conventional writing and predetermined plot (also, I personally just didn't like that show).
I had no idea what was going on in FLCL. Watched it twice and still don't know. I feel inclined to watch it a third time, properly, but I still don't know if I'll fully comprehend it.

I'm convinced it just isn't logical, and I KNOW most of the people who watch it can't explain it so why it became such a big budget anime (well, seems that way anyway) with such acclaim I have no clue. Also the manga was pretty different, so that adds another layer of confusion.
Guys. I just got an idea.
A brilliant, AWESOME idea.
Okay, here it is.
Keep Up.
Battle Royale... Okay?
You ready for this?
It is the most awesome anything ever.
Battle Royale...THE MUSICAL.
(Seriously. This would be the best anything, ever... well, next to a Musical version of "Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath" but that's beside the point. Kiriyama getting a villain song is just...mind blowing and Shuya is the exact hopeless, handsome romantic for the lead role in a musical, this can work guys. )
Ooooooh ****! Everyone start thinking up music for scenes!
-Joyful schoolbus singing with dark foreshadowing humor
-A song about the rules of the game, at one part one of the bombs goes off leaving a few seconds of silence to start another verse
-Everyone singing at eachother and having musical monologues when they don't who who poisoned the food.
-and that the finale...
This will be the best musical ever.
-"School Days" An upbeat OP song that introduces the students, sung by most of class 3B, with each group of characters getting some part of it, ends when they are all put on the bus. Gets a dark, tragic reprise at the end as the final song of the musical.
-"Battle Royale" sung by the Overseer and the Instruction Video Lady during the "instruction", Military back up singers and dancers. It's upbeat with lyrical dissonance.
-"Loyalty's End" A Noriko/Shuya duet during the first night of Battle Royale starts of tragic but ends on more hopeful note. Gets a small solo reprise courtesy of Shuya, during the aftermath of the Lighthouse scene.
-"Natural Born Killers" One half of the song is sung by Mitsuko while she takes her first kill, while the other half is sung by Kiriyama while he guns down his gang. Gets a brief reprise when they meet, but Kiriyama cuts it short by gunning Mitsuko down.
-"Announcement Chorus" Much like the Bad-Horse Chorus from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along blog, this plays whenever the Overseer announces the "danger zones" and those dead. Reprises itself twice.
-"Stick it to the Man" sung by Shinji Mimura and Yutaka about his plan to shaft the Project. Gets a brief reprise when they have the bomb, but Kiriyama cuts that short. (Kiriyama really hates Reprises)
-"Friends like these." Shuya, about Shinji, Hiroki and (the late) Yo****oki.
-"Kill or Be Killed" First half is sung by Kawada (being Brutally Honest) towards Shuya, the latter part is by Kiriyama to whoever he's about to kill next.
-"Empty" Kiriyama's big number in the climax (his Villain Song), really shows how far his sanity is slipping, and how he can't feel anything and everything's okay even while murdering all of his classmate's.
-"Plans" Sung by the Overseer about the Project and how he knows what Kawada did, but Kawada turns the tables and sings the latter half.
- "School Days Tragedy" The final song and tragic reprise of the first song. The rest of the cast plays the choir while it focuses on Shuya and Noriko.
Needs something with Hiroki and Takako/Kayoko otherwise this is good rough outline of what COULD be done with such a premise. As you could probably tell, it's total, utter black comedy and an affectionate parody of it's source material, but still sticks with the tragic themes with a good number of the songs present....this can work.
