A 10 year old Land cruiser 90 with 230K+ on it, they demand 3X as much as for pretty much anything else. And worst of all: everybody originally bought a diesel. No way I'm getting something like that. Can't afford an engine failure with that, and where I live, I' will have some (diesel's don't last long in short distance driving conditions.)

A used Landcruiser 200 will be fine, but those drive like Scania Vabis.

The alternative is... ??? Do the Suburbans even work anymore? I'm told the larger Ford SUVs are good still.
The Lexus is mechanically identical to a Land Cruiser 100 and costs between $14-$20k. But get this, even though the LX is an upmarket Cruiser, the Toyota is twice as much as the Lexus.

And a Defender in the States is getting close to 6 figures in the used market. I like them, never driven one though, but I've heard they're dismal to drive.

You can tell by my screen name that I'll never drive a GM and I was originally looking for a 2007+ Ford Expedition before I found out the Lexus was the same price.

A Bronco is still on my bucket list...

If you can get a Lexus Land Cruiser for the same price as a Ford Expedition... take it. They have better quality control. Otherwise it's the same basic thing. (Both are basically glorified Ford Broncos)

A Defender is way overpriced here as well. Not worth it. Not worth what they went for new. Not really worth what they went for in England when they were new (half price), because you could get a Hilux, which was a much better car for about the same.

Dismal? Well... it's an off road vehicle, made to be driven over trackless farmland, not on roads. So... a tractor.

Unsafe at any speed as well.

Only worth it if you can get one at proper old car price, and intend to drive it over some hills. And enjoy fixing stuff.

Well I finally found one. Relatively low miles and ridiculously maintained at the dealer.

    Ooh! 4.6 V8! Smooth.

I figure I'll start saving up for a new car. Seems they are beginning to make acceptable vehicles again. (The 90ies were a horror, and went on and on...)

Kia Optima is comfortable and high tech - maybe a bit too hi-tech. It's heavy. But comfy.

Honda Civic is more sporty, and more traditionally built. It is also marginally more affordable.

The Mercedes Benz of 1979 is cheap and reliable and stands out on the parkinglot.

It's in really good condition and it runs perfectly, the only work that needs to be done to it is a few cosmetic odds and ends.

I recently saw one of these at a car show...

It's a Koenigsegg Regera, a Swedish 'Hybrid Super Car' that pushes out 1,500 horse power but the kicker is it has no transmission for it's gasoline engine. It uses a hydraulic fluid compression/reduction system. It sounds amazing and the concept of no transmission turns me on.

A torque converter in other words. Same as any other automatic, but in this instance, the electric motor takes up the slack of having no gears.

I saw one of these at a car show today

    1959 Dodge Custom Royal Hardtop.
It was blue instead of red and it was magnificent at every angle.
Every inch, every feature was pure auto porn.

Had my first flat tire in like 25 years this week. Hole was in sidewall so I had to replace tire, did the L/R pair since they were getting low on tread anyway. Wallet is a little battered but have some nice new tires.
