Thread: AMV Hell Trending Statistics (2004-Present)

Post AMV Hell Trending Statistics (2004-Present)

I was curious so I did some research and figured I'd share.
Basically I just used a bit of Googles analytics tools to see how many times AMV Hell has been searched for through Google over the years. The results are pretty interesting, to me at least.
These are not absolute representations of overall search volume, these are only statistics from Google, which excludes searches done through other popular search engines.
Considering nowadays near 68% of all internet searches are done through Google though, one can make a fair analysis.

This first chart is the amount of searches done through Google for AMV Hell each month in the past 2 years.
The average in the past 2 years is around 6,600 searches every month.
The highest point in the past 2 years was in April 2013, the month of 6.66s online release, which peaked near 10,000 searches in that month.
The second highest was in October 2014, the month of 7s online release, which peaked at a little over 8,000 searches.
Interestingly enough, the amount of searches 7 brought in comparison with the highest point of the 10 Year chart further below is just around 10%.

This next line chart is the volume of searches done for "amv hell" over the past 10 years or so. I included the relevant releases marked with a red dot around the exact time of the premier. (expand to see clearer)
You can obviously see a consistent spike in searches following months of the premiers, which is obviously due the online releases, with the increase preceding it likely being due to hype before the release.
The highest point follows 4s premier, with the second highest following the concurrent premier of 3 & 0.
So the highest point around 4s release was a bit over 10x that of 7s which resulted in 80,000+ searches being made through Google each month for "amv hell".

    Exact Premier dates in order...
    Spoiler!

Ah, I remember the great AMV Hell crash of 2008... Full of willingness to go out with a bang, too much was invested in the "genuinely funny" factor, creating a temporary "quality" bubble. When that bubble finally burst, it ushered in a general era of disillusionment, in which the sheer concept of attempting to top what had been called "The Last One" seemed laughable.

Fig 1. AMV editors, seen here waiting in line to create some of the unofficial projects using the AMV Hell format that would arise in later years. This was generally done as a meager effort to inherit even a fraction of what had been AMV Hell's success.

Many important historians attribute the post-AMV Hell 4 crash as one of the chief causes behind SilentChaz's rise to power, along with the subsequent formation of the "Cancer that is killing AMV Hell" concentration camps, in which millions of both Youtube and AMV Hell users alike were systematically slaughtered through snide remarks delivered regularly through the forum Chatbox.

^What I find most amusing about that image is that damn near every one of them is wearing a fedora. Oh, how they symbols have changed over the years.

Not to mention the changing of definitions.

Just to make sure it's all clarified, the hats they are wearing in the picture are in fact fedoras. As per usual, it's the kiddies today that have it wrong:

Wasn't it common knowledge that know one cares about AMV Hell anymore already, or did someone doubt some of us saying that?
