The question is simple: is Desu a word, a being, a meme, or what?
And if it is a word, what part of speech is it?
THESE ARE QUESTIONS THAT SCIENCE CAN ANSWER!

No, the random idea was not going to turn into another thread, if that's what you were thinking. The idea is based off of the fact that desu means "to be" in Japanese. Here we go (this is just a start)
"To desu, or not to desu? That is the question."

Maybe... I'd have to Wiki it up to see which one's right...
Doesn't really matter. "To Desu" sounds so much better!

simple answer:
A Japanese copula, or word used to grammatically link a subject and predicate. i.e. It is a Japanese verb meaning "to be".

Yeah... that's what Wiki says... but with a little knowledge of Japanese sentence structure, you can see where the ambiguity comes it. They put verbs at the end of sentences. So whether desu includes "to" or not is almost impossible to argue one way or the other.

Desu approximately means "it is", or "really". I believe that "really" is an adverb.

I have a Japanese kid in my Chemistry class. I'll ask him on Tuesday what (if anything) "desu" means.

It would be Desu nai Desu ka soretomo, I believe.

Yes, but the point is not to turn the WHOLE THING into Japanese. Then English speakers wouldn't get it!
