what you guys thought of it.
Oh, and before I forget I will mention parts from the end that qualify as SPOILERS for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Anyway, just share your thoughts, likes/dislikes and all that.
The good:
One thing I really loved about BR2 was the revised rules of the game, pairing the class in twos and giving them guns, sending them to the beach and then giving them the manuals about how to use/load the guns was great, really added some nice tension.
The Bad:
After the game 'ended' though I felt it just kind of took a nosedive. All there was was the usual anti-US/superpower talk, which seemed to dominate the rest of the movie (part of the reason why I didn't complete it the first time; just got old as hell).
I would have also liked to have seen how Nanahara's main squeeze got killed, rather then just a bloody bullet riddled blanket. I mean, she was an important character in BR, why give her such a lackluster death?
What I also disliked was how trained soldiers and SF troopers, who outnumbered Nanahara's gang 10:1 most of the time were consistently outshot by a bunch of high schoolers that had very little to no training with firearms. I also disliked how they always lined up in a big bunch quite neatly for target practice. (notice how when the game was still on, the BR2 'contestants' still did better then the army)
Another thing I greatly disliked was how main/important characters ALWAYS had the Last Stand/Juggernaught/Martyrdom perk on. They all died glorious deaths mowing down dozens of trained soldiers with weapons they barely knew how to use. Also, the death of the girl Shiori?, the daughter of the previous BR teacher was absurd. She got shot in the face, which later changed to the neck (but at that angle the bullet would have continued up through her skull) and had about 1-2 minutes of dialoge with Nanahara before she died.
Also the scene where Nanahara stabs the soldier with a pipe, somehow penetrating the ceramic plate, and metal trauma plate in his vest (he must be part robot); and the blonde haired guy fired the grenade launcher at him.
This would have filled Nanahara with shrapnel, both from the grenade and the sheet metal walls.
My final rant is about the ending; WHAT THE ****?! How do two people barge through a doorway obviously being covered by dozens of soldiers and survive? How do they survive the ensuing missile strike? The whole 'running through the doorway of light' scene is utterly useless if they DON'T die. It turns the latter half of the film into a poorly made joke! I know they had character shields, but COME ON!
More generally; I really didn't like the characters that much, couldn't really sympathize or connect with them in the way you could in BR 1. I think this was the case because in BR1 it seemed like they were just the unlucky ones to be picked, most of the people in the class were 'normal'.
In the BR2 class, I had a hard time finding someone that didn't have bleached hair in some wierd arrangement. The fact that there were clearly defined cliques in BR also made the whole movie more tense, whereas in BR2 they were all 'friends', but that only meant that they shrieked more when one of them died.
and that concludes my rant.
So, anyone else have any thoughts?
