District 9, was a pretty odd movie. It was originalish. The aliens and the hole idea of their ship was original. The crises that plagued the movie's "World" were all taken from the real world's problems. The weaponry in the movie was neat but the ideas behind them have been forever as old as firearms themselves. With that being said the movie was actually pretty good. The fact that they kept it cryptic in the previews was nice because it didn't clue you in to the whole story in the movie. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact that the plot/story was very predictable after about 30 minutes into the movie. However you may have known what was gonna happen but you didn't know the special effects or how things were going to completely unfold. So overall the movie was actually very nice, I enjoyed it.

There are quite a few better movies this summer then District 9 but at least it's narritive didn't pretend it contained a depth that didn't exist.
Movies just aren't as good as they used to be...

Dead wrong.

Just saw it yesterday, District 9 is exactly what a Sci-Fi movie should be. The beginning is very dull and looks like a documentary, but that's there to set up emotions about the characters that the move just flips around 180 degrees on the drop of a ****ing dime. Best movie I've seen in a while.

i must admit the movie was pretty good, ecxept for the parts when he could kill everyone in sight but didn't. the best thing that it's shot like a documentary imo. it still could be much better T_T

District 9 isn't very original to begin with like some people are claiming it to be...

Yes it was shot documentary style but there where parts in the movie where it would of been better to shoot it normally.

It was a documentary done on the main character and what happened to him, but then came the parts where they didn't know what happened and it then did a kind of flash back to show what really happened. But for some reason those parts where still shot documentary style and was shaking like someone was holding the camera on a still person.

Also there where times where I thought they over did it and put to much bass into it. Other then that it's a movie that I think true sci-fi fans can love while everyone else is left not knowing anything.

I just saw Inglorious Basterds and District 9 back-to-back, and I must say I enjoyed them both very much. I haven't been much of a movie-goer lately, but what few trips I've made were well worth the $8 admission.

Here's my take on originality: The individual elements of a movie don't necessarily have to be original, but if they're put together in a way that surprises or enlightens me, then it is original. That's how I felt with both these movies.

A film that's truly startiling is perfectly fine by me.
At least it's not dinosaurs made more intelligent by cereal invented by Walter Croncite and sent back through time to "grant the wishes" of children...
How long will this plot remain consistent?

I loved district 9. I also really enjoyed Inglorious Basterds.

I thought GI joe was a good movie purely from an entertainment standpoint.

While we are on the topic of movies, has anyone seen Moon? It's supposedly already in theaters, but I can't find one showing it anywhere near me. I consider near to be within 50 miles btw.

Crank 2. Movie of the year.

I understand what you're getting at, but it was trash. Crank: High Voltage was worse than the first one, and even that wasn't that good.

I saw trailers; I was excited. But I watched it, and I wish I could get those hours back.
Disappointed, I am.

I haven't seen Crank 2 yet. the first was a let down tho. District 9 was good i thought. Inglorious Bastards was defiantly better. But none of the movies today realy even have a leg to stand on compared to Rose Red, that movie is still one of my favorit movies. made when a movie budget didn't get it the way of a good movie. In my opinion, 2 hours isn't long enough for a good movie. It takes more than 2 hrs to tell a good story. and thats what Rose Red did, but the book was still better.

it's odd how District 9 was suppose to be the Halo movie but do to budget problems they couldnt finish it so they did this...makes me happy ^^..but for all them Halo fans Spielberg picked up the script and went 'with a few changes I can do it'...but I enjoyed District 9

abyssion1337
09-10-2009, 05:25 PM
That's not entirely accurate, District 9 itself wasn't supposed to be the Halo movie: many of the people who did District 9 were supposed to be doing the Halo movie but when the project was put on suspension they did District 9.

of course now the real fear is that Uwe Boll could end up doing the Halo movie(not that they should make a Halo movie, that in and of itself is an incredibly stupid idea)

ya I agree cause game movies are mostly bad cause you get young directors that think they they played the game that they can know how to do it -_- sadly only cause you have a paper that says degree doesnt mean you are an expect...though I wouldnt mind seeing that metal gear movie whenever it gets to theaters and such...all I know is that it's suppose to have Hugh Jackmen as snake ( I would prefer Kurt Russell but he's a lil old for the part, but he can still play as big boss if they put him into it)

abyssion1337
09-10-2009, 10:00 PM
I don't like Hugh Jackman, but I still don't want to see a metal gear movie, since the game already is a movie with small playable segments in between some of the scenes

09-10-2009, 11:58 PM
the only metal gear movie i would watch. would be a ful cgi movie playing the ENTIRE story for Metal Gear Solid 1-4 in chronological order. the same way they did the games. using the same voice actors. so its like watching someone play the game.

abyssion1337
09-11-2009, 12:06 AM
you know except not all the metal gear solid game were in chronological order, but really metal gear solid was the only good one,

i know they were not in chronological order. i want the movie in the order the games were in.

abyssion1337
09-11-2009, 01:59 AM
then why did you say "...in chronological order..." actually never mind doesn't matter

even if I could get behind the idea of a movie, the second game really sucked, I just can't see it

also those dice, do you only play D&D(only game I know that uses ever dice of the spectrum and my pencil/paper knowledge isn't insubstantial) or would you do a web game of Exalted

darkzi
09-11-2009, 05:18 PM
ya but since metal gear was already a movie basicly then they shouldnt have a problem with it, besides then it would be like watching the game but without all the codec messages every 5 steps...that sound got very annoying before even walking through the first door

alucard151

I don't like DnD that much, I mean it is fun but there are better storytelling systems, Exalted just might be my favorite there are some great rules for social combat (In our last campaign one of our players convinced a wave of destruction to not destroy a village and crystals to stop reflecting light)
