Too hard to imagine such character? But it shouldn't be hard. Minami (3rd pic) is just like Sakaki in the secondary school. Many people thinks that she is a boy because of her flat chest and short hair, so Sakaki grows her hair longer. After finishing collage she becomes detective and together with L busts Kira (that silly looking emo kid in the 2nd pic) :D

Sakaki: I wear a pin on my backpack of her. I never take it off. I've been through three pins because they keep getting wet.
Horo (Spice and Wolf): CAT EAR TSUNDERE KAWAII!! Okay, they're wolf ears but still. The perfect tsundere.
Koala Su (Love Hina): I don't even know, I like the manic ones. And of course when she's older, she's actually hot.
Kaede (Negima): I love ninjas. It's something about the laid-back competence I guess.
Haruko (FLCL): As stated before, I love the manic ones. It's weird, because I'm not really in for Excel.
Senjogahara (Bakemonogatari): I really do like tsunderes of a certain type. She's crazy AND tsundere. Pretty awesome IMHO.

Awesome characters:

Alita (Battle Angle Alita): Almost forgot her because she's from a manga. Yeah... the transcended warrior, very similar to Thors. Slightly different than him because she develops into this over time, making her a more compelling character.
Thors (Vinland Saga): "A true warrior needs no blade" 'Nuff said.
Kamina (Gurren Lagann): How can you be a man and NOT HAVE HIM AS YOUR ROLL MODEL!
Yuuno (Future Diary): Most manipulating bastards are cold and aloof. Yuuno... doesn't need to be. The ultimate yandere, genius, and psychopath.
Haruko (FLCL) and Excel (Excel Saga): Together for obvious reasons. When the going gets crazy, it was probably their fault. Way more intelligent than they let on.
Bean Bandit (Gunsmith Cats): The ultimate badass normal. He wears a bulletproof ceramic plate IN HIS BANDANNA. Extremely similar to...
Figure 4 (Battle Angel Alita): ... Except he enjoys fighting the same way Bandit enjoys racing: Viscerally and with ultimate passion. Also much more of an idiot. But we love him!
Ginko (Mushishi): Yeah... he's awesome in the same way Kaede is. Except he doesn't need the ridiculous combat capabilities to pull it off.
Seras (Hellsing): Police girl? Dual wielding 30 mm automatic cannons? Yeaaaaaaah...

I know what you mean. I just started watching it (I'm on episode 8 I think?) and I'm loving the characters. Especially Ennis and Firo.

In general I also sypathize. It took me about 10 or 15 minutes to write my post. Same goes for my post in the Favorite Anime thread and I said as much.

yeah, trust me you'll want to watch Baccano! again it gets better every time I watch it (also get the light novels as they cover events that the anime doesn't) And yeah Ennis and Firo are great but you can't forget about how awesome Maiza is (or maybe you haven't gotten far enough) then of course you have Luck, who certainly stands out from his brothers. Chane is of course awesome and then you get Claire(Vino, but by this point you probably haven't seen him do much yet) and of course Isaac and Miria who are always in the midst of doing something awesome. And as if that wasn't enough there are some pretty awesome minor characters like Rachel and Elmer.

Hey now, I've mentioned that I enjoy Naruto (though I am still a recently registered and participating member here). The story is actually a lot deeper than it first appears. it's not the best anime ever. but having a story that is consistently getting better after 300 episodes is a pretty impressive feat. Though One Piece is even more impressive.

Shikamaru Nara: okay, I relate with this kid WAY too much. Dang it, I wish I could be as on top of things as he is on a regular basis after he gets a work motive.

Jack Rakan: A lot like Figure 4 but more ridiculous.

Graham Specter: Ladd Russo with a wrench. 'Nuf said.

Keitaro Urashima: Okay, he's pretty pathetic compared to most of the other characters on here, but I really do relate to him. In fact, I can probably credit this character with getting me into anime and manga, as Love Hina was the first manga I read all the way through.

simply put I haven't stopped watching anime and I like to give some time to let it sink in, also this thread went inactive for quite a while so of course it slipped my mind, and just over a month ago this thread resurfaced, unfortunately I had just started Durarara!! which has a large cast of epic characters so I wasn't ready to make a list at that time (and if you want me to make one now, I'd have to leave off Durarara!! characters)

but hey, if the large douchebag who clearly needs a slap across the face and a mild sedative wants a list then far be it for me to deny him that list, I'll just come up with something

so in no particular order:
Shunsui Kyoraku (bleach), Bleach is good because of the supporting characters so choosing a favorite out of all of them is hard (it's probably a good thing that while the main characters have their moments, they for the most part suck) is hard but I have to go with Kyoraku, he's ridiculously powerful and equally laid back, while there are certainly other characters I like I have to go with him

Roger Smith (Big O), He's the anime version batman, nuff said

Kino (Kino's journey), Kino's journey is one of the best series I've ever seen and the experience wouldn't quite be the were she not the one taking us through these trips

Beatrice (Umineko no naku koro ni), She's got an impossible task ahead of her but she's just so evil, there's no depths to which she won't sink to win, she's just evil. The series has a lot of great characters, everyone has their moment and I'd really like to noet Rudolf, "never underestimate my generation's love of westerns" I'd say Krauss but they didn't include it in the anime

Johann Liebert (Monster), Damn, if I were to make a list of all the anime villains he'd top it easily, the guy makes Legato look like an anti-hero

Firo Prochainezo (Baccano!), Choosing a character from Baccano! is pretty much impossible and Firo just has the best coolness factor of any character. I'm sure you've probably seen me discussing the series with Useful so you know all the characters are great and part of my decision is based on reading the extra stuff in the light novels but it still counts in this case

Tylor (Irresponsible Captain Tylor), There's a lot of debate about Tylor, and I choose to believe that the man is a genius, probably the best lazy genius in all of anime and I'm sorry if that colors your opinion when you watch the series.

Matoi Tsunetsuki (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei), Again lot's of characters to choose from all of whom are delightfully broken but I have to go with the stalker on this one

Captain Herlock (oh so many different things in the Leijivers) The guy is epic, I've seen quite a bit of stuff he's in but I think the follow up, endless odyssey, might demonstrate this the best; The embodiment of fear reaches into his chest and pulls out his heart and the guy doesn't so much as raise an eyebrow. He's like 20 Kaminas worth of awesome.

Train Heartnet (Black Cat) He's kinda like Vash and Spike rolled into 1 person

Gendo Ikari (Neon Genesis Evangelion), The man's a pimp, and quite brilliant

Soul Eater: Death the Kidd (I love the dual weilding pistols and OCD quirk, it's relatively unique for an anime character), Stein (I just like the whole insanity struggle thing), Eruka (...I wish I knew, she has like no lines and little plot relevance. I guess because I feel for her desperation to be free from Medusa)

Welcome to the NHK: Satou (Again I love that struggle against himself)

Tower of Druaga: Melt (Golf mage, 'nuf said), Coopa (Adorable and accomplice to a golf mage), Neeba (rare for a non-sword user to be the main antagonist, with an internal struggle to boot)

Bleach: Stark Coyote (Dual pistols, laziness, and lonliness)

Disgaea: Prinnies (Dood!), Laharl (Simply funny), Flonne (Adorable)

firo - he doesnt look like much but he compleatly rapes all that gets in his way, he's definitly the coolist character in Baccano! and i love his hat, especially when he throws it i the air, beats a bunch of guys up and catches it as it falls down XD

Anri - Anri reminds me of me for the most part, she is quiet, leeches to her friends and you dont want to get on her bad side cause she controls a whole army through mind power, plus she is full of epic XD

Yomiko - as well as watching anime i do a lot of reading so I really liked ROD. I would love to cut stuff in half with a slice of paper XD, the reasion i liked Yomiko so much was mainly cause her house is compleatly filled with books but also cause she owns stuff in battle and makes friends really easily

Nozomu - I love his way of thinking, he has the power to turn anything into a negitive situation and make everyone around him depressed, plus he makes me laugh whitch is alwase a good bonus

Nanami - although only a few Katanagatari episodes are out at the moment i really stuck to this character in her episode, at first I thought oh crap well she's gonna die then but then it was all like oh hi guys, you die nao and i was like omg what is this epicness flowing from my computer into me, after watching the episode I immeditally watched it again cause it was so awesome. I hope to see moar of her in the future

Rena - the main reason I like Rena is cause I love the way she repeats the end of her questions whitch I have not seen in any other animes, i was stuck saying Ka Na?, Ka Na? for days after watching the anime XD, I also love the huge machete she carrys around with her and her crazy face is awesome, its just crazy enough, not to crazy, not mediocre ^^

Fine, Mr. Bossy payntz.

Shoujiro Izumi (Lucky Star) - He's just an awesomely funny and open guy. I find it amusing that he has the same type of relationship a father and teenage son would have (minus the clingyness).

L (Death Note) - His nonchalant and sarcastic disposition reminds me a bit of myself when I was a bit younger, plus he's one half of a very epic rivalry. so while I don't necessarily agree with his view of justice, he was easily the most entertaining character of the bunch. And that's saying alot given the cast. My primary enjoyment of him has diminished a bit when I came to find he was fangirl fodder, but that doesn't keep him from being great.

Sheska (Fullmetal Alchemist) - Even though she (regretfully) has such a tiny role in FMA, her chipper, bookworm attitude has a special place in my heart. Again, my specific liking of her says alot, given the cast.

Zoro Roronoa (One Piece) - Do I even need to explain this one? He's Zoro. A guy that wields one of three swords with his teeth, and can survive buzzsaw-like attacks as well as absorb a phuking huge, red bubble of WTF and still remain standing. He's one of the most badass in anime. PERIOD
