What are your favorite books that you're reading right now. I'm personally reading a book called The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and it's really good.

On a reccomendations thread I'm honour-bound to mention the late, great George Macdonald Fraser's Mr American.

You'll all know Macdonald Fraser by his historical Flashman novels of high adventure across the battlefields (and the bedrooms...!) of the 19th century. Those are glorious, uproarious books in and of themselves and ones which I'd heartily reccomend, but Flashman is famous and everyone's heard of him already. Macdonald Fraser never wrote a dud, so some attention should be given to his other works too.

Mr American is a modern novel (published in the 1980s) but is set in the 1900s. It tells the tale of an American gold prospector who, after decades of hacking away at mud and stone, finally makes his lucky strike and wins his fortune; but with his family passed on and with no relatives, friends, or other ties left in America, he makes the decision to seek out the closest thing that he may relate to - a journey to Edwardian England to uncover his family's roots. However, he brings more baggage with him than might be found in his suitcase, and not every discovery he makes in his exploration of the Old Country is to his benefit...

What follows is, without hyperbole, the most moving novel that I've yet read. Heartfelt in its emotions, keen in its observations, unstinting in its detail and vivid in its realisation, it's not a literary classic (yet - just give it time for the copyright to expire) but no other book has made me literally laugh, cry, gasp, roar, scowl or smile so much. It truly captivated me, and I genuinely regretted finishing it... because it meant that I had to close the book. It dominated my attention while I was reading it and caused solemn reflection on it long after it was done - it should be required reading for everyone.

I've recently read pride and prejudice and zombies, if you've read the original and love zombies it's a very solid parody, and I did enjoy Mr. America however it was far from my favorite novel ever, not that I didn't like it I just wasn't as moved by it as you

The last book I read was "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman, for a class assignment. While I disagree with the main points we makes (I find them over-generalized, vague, and even a bit self-righteous.) it is a fascinating read, particularly where the history of literature and media is concerned.
