This has already been mentioned here: http://amvhell.com/showthread.php?t=1641, but we felt it warrants its own topic.
What do you think of creating a special Minis episode comprised completely of Azumanga clips, or, come to think of it, of clips from a single anime source?
Feel free to share your thoughts below.

I'm against it, if you want to do something like that start your own project, I'm sure many of the contributors here would jump on that

I do think you could make it your own project and ask for the name "Azumanga Hell"... If you do, please inform me since I would very much love to participate :D

Glad to hear! The plan is to see if Zarxrax is interested in doing a special Minis episode. If that isn't the case then I might consider doing an independent project.

you won't find out for a while whilst he's in Japan, though I can't speak for him I can guess that it's probably not going to happen

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. In the meantime, I just want to see what everyone thinks of it.

I'm not against it. The format lends itself well to things like this, and I actually had something like this in mind when I started up AMV Minis.
It doesn't really take anything extra, its just a matter of waiting on enough people to submit videos with a common theme.
*Still in Japan, but it's raining :(

We could even have a poll on which anime we'd like to have its own Minis episode. What sayest thou?

well if we're on the topic of what we should devote whole minis episodes to I'd say that we always get a lot of higurashi and lots of it is pretty good

Well I ended up receiving less Azumanga videos now than I received in episodes 1 and 2, so I'm calling this project a failure.

I think that it might be a little too soon to call it a failure, Zarxrax. It's only been a few weeks since you invited submissions, and that was buried at the bottom of your returning post after your trip to Japan. It'll take a little time for submissions to be made; I myself am interested in making Azumanga clips but I need to learn proper lip-syncing beforehand, and I do have work in the meantime too, so I can't submit them immediately. Also, I don't think that it's been advertised as widely as it could be - I don't want to dictate your job, of course, but I think that if once AMV Minis Episode 3 is released, if you announce an Azumanga edition in its own dedicated newspost you'll get a better reception.
Even if the Azumanga submission rate doesn't increase, it doesn't mean that the Azumanga Edition has to be abandoned - just ask any Azumanga submitters that make the grade if they want to set their clip aside for the Azumanga Edition, or run it straight to Minis No. 4, and wait until enough set-asides have been accumulated. It doesn't need to come out immediately.

Not too creative... An amv hell Based on only 1 Anime But it kind of Makes Sense Of a Minis Episode And i can't wait to see it!

Well, maybe that's true, but I've only got like 3 azumanga videos sitting here, so its a bit disheartening.

This has the additional effect of limiting the amount of Azumanga content the other Minis have, which would likely also be well received considering this concept was developed in response to a complaint that AMV Hell had too much Azumanga in it. I don't exactly agree with that, but I'd love to see Minis with less of it :sweatdrop:

Who Says that Azumanga Hell edition has to be released along side Episode 3. Take as long as you need to compile the clips.

How about this?: After the release of episode 3, we have a separate, more up front announcement for the Azumanga episode?

Why are you guys trying to force this on people. Yes, I said force because its exactly what it looks like you guys are doing. No one seems to be excited or even interested in this project. Maybe a change of anime is in order, maybe it should be directed by someone else than Zar. All I know is that it looks like no one cares much about the project. I think it should be dropped. Either that or start a seperate MEP on AMV.org.

No one's forcing anybody. If it turns out to be a failed experiment, fine. Personally, I just think it needs more time before we come to that conclusion.
Zarxrax
10-04-2009, 04:59 PM
Well, of course if I wait long enough, enough videos WILL come in. But, kinda the whole reason I was with this idea at first is because we were getting kind of a lot of Azumanga entries. But then as soon as we decided on this, the Azumanga entries stopped :p

Well, considering most of the Azumanga clips featured in Minis so far were mine, and considering how busy I am with work and school these days, I can see that. I certainly hope I'm not the only contributor! :) This is a group effort, after all.
In fact, it's possible that after the accumulation of clips during your haitus, that other folks could be quite busy with school and work as well. Disinterest in the project is only one of several possibilities.

Hey, speak for yourself! It won the forum poll on candidates for a special dedicated submission by a clear margin, and I can say at least that I've quite a lot of enthusiasm for the project. I've a fair few ideas... I just can't act on them until I've actually bought the DVDs. :D
It's not impinging upon other submissions either - hell, I've got two other clips for Canaan and Riding Bean waiting for responses in the entries forum right now - so saying that the Azumanga Edition is being "forced" on the community is a bit strong to say the least.
Also, bear in mind that it's October - summer's well over, and a lot of editors at school or university will have less free time for making AMVs, so inevitably the rate of submission for anything, be they Azumangans and otherwise, is going to decline.

hey quick question what anime is your avatar from?
sirmooalot
10-05-2009, 12:38 AM
I dislike the idea because, not wanting to sound mean, I am not a big fan of azumanga and seeing that almost 1/4 of most the amv hells is azumanga I think you have your dose and as for makeing it specifically for other anime I say no on that too because im sure some people are not particular fans of certain anime. If you keep it mixed then there's always going to be a surprise and usually something someone likes.

A quick Azumanga-related question - in the anime, there's a scene where Osaka plays the recorder badly in a music lesson, and then gets yelled at by Yukari when she continues to play it in her class - SSGWNBTD used it as a clip in AMV Hell 3 (No. 26 on the credits list if you want to review it).
I need this scene as part of a clip that I'm currently composing, but I can't for the life of me find it! I'm working this weekend so I really need to finish this clip tonight, and I'm afraid that I don't have the time to rewatch half the series to trawl it up. Can anyone online who remembers the scene point me in the direction of the correct episode? It would be an immense help!
Sorry to be a burden to the community, and thanks in advance.
