well there a lot of things out there, but if anime your looking for;
Gainax offers quite a bit;
gurren laggan, Giant Robots PG.
FLCL, Robots strage stuff... it makes no sense PG.
Magical shopping arcade Abenobashi, theses kids go through different dimensions M.
Neon genesis Evangelion, Giant robots with the recreation of GOD PG 13.

Other anime Titles;
Blue Sub #6, word is coming to an end... 4 eps old title PG.
Samurai X, dama... begining of rorouni kenshin M.
KanoKon, very ecchi (starting it my self) wolf spirit and human fall in love M.
Spice and Wolf, what more sould i say... its got Horo. the cutest wolf goddess ever!

Manga (i have a whole list) Main ones;
Full Metal Alchemist, Best Story ever! T
Berserk, some guy wants revenge and becomes the black horseman. M (better and longer than the anime)
Chobits, Chi... she is the best! OT
Death Note, if you have not heard of it. OT

While we're on this site, you might want to check out the credits for AMV Hell and just start an anime that looked interesting. If someone cares about it enough to make an AMV, it's probably worth a shot. Honestly that's how I've found some of my favorites.

I wouldn't call Higurashi action, sure in later seasons there's more action sequences but not enough to really qualify it and no way was Deathnote a 7, sure the first half or so was a 7 maybe even 8 but then it become a 4 till the very end which was so good it was back to to 8 or 9

Detective Conan is good but it's real problem is how formulaic it is; it actually goes on too long because they're too damn slow with character development

I'd say as far as the one I enjoyed watching the most then Fist of the North Star, the ONLY Anime I've ever watched in Japanese (cause it was never completely dubbed)

As far as Re-play value than probably Cowboy Bebop, since Fist of the North Star is 109 episodes so I don't exactly watch it over from start to finish.

I like Samurai Champloo mainly cause of Jin, but it wasn't the best anime in the world.
