So I seen Avatar, earlier today at an IMax 3D showing. The movie was visually awesome to look at, especially in 3D. The explosions could be felt (I'd assume it was the IMax theater). However a few things I didn't like about the movie. It sounded like they were speaking Indian (Native American), most of the animals had sounds taken from either other movies or real life animals, and the story has been told a dozen times (maybe not exactly this way but still has been told). Though I did like the movie but I kinda think it was because of the IMax theater and 3D effects. If you see it like that, you'll enjoy yourself.

i saw it too, but in 3D at a local theatre. I liked the movie overall, and the 3D was really cool, but you're right, it's Dances with Wolves in space.

Yeah, if the thought crosses my mind that I've seen this movie before, and done much better, then it's time for a script rewrite. 'Course, that should've been done in pre-production.

I did not see it in 3D, though I doubt it would've influenced my opinion. I think that if a movie is engaging enough, it doesn't need it.

dude, the director freely admitted that it was just a retelling of Dances with wolves, which was a much better movie since Avatar decided that it didn't need subtly, pacing, good dialogue or an original thought. Strange since I'm usually a sucker for floating islands but I want more from my movies than good effects.

I also saw Sherlock Holmes and I absolutely loved it, I had one problem with it which kind of falls in the gray area of spoilers so I won't say any more unless asked, but they were very true the characters and really captured the feel of them, also the atmosphere was so thick you'd need a chainsaw to get through it. Much like the books the movies also make great use of Chekhov's Gun. the fight scenes were also very good with a climax taking place in a ridiculous Jame's Bondesque fight location (ok so it's not quite that ridiculous but it's close) that are also reminiscent of a good Bruce Lee fight

I thought it was a very well made film, yes the story was predictable, but it exceded my expectations, which is more than I can say for most 2009 films

honestly good movies, like good games are few and far between, but nothing changes cause people pay money for bad to average movies which just reinforces that we like to watch crap

Where did he say that? Every interview I ever saw he kept going "I wanted to tell this story since I was a kid. I am brilliantly original."

No he's pretty much been up front about how this is a retelling of Dances with Wolves

This was supposed to be something that would "change movies forever" or something, but I honestly think that Dances with Wolves (or Disney's Pocahontas, for that matter) told the story better. CGI isn't really a novelty anymore, either. And, being an anime fan, I've seen better action sequences and giant mecha.

Decent movie, but I think it's ultimately going to be forgettable.

The thing this movie changed forever in the world of movies was the way they did the 3D. They had like 15 Cameras or more per shot. So the 3D was very intense. Why I said seeing this movie not in 3D would suck.

yep, it's just horrible in 3D. i was forced to watch this crap twice (long story, i regret) both in 3d and in 2D (?). How can you be still fascinated by that 80's thing? c'mon it's just got old, i've seen only two stereoscipic movies in my life but i'm already sick of it. Do you go to the cinema to wantch the movie thoroughly, or to see a giant robot's hand popping out of the screen? the 3D version is much darker that the original, you should forus on every object to see it clearly, it sucks. oh, and it looks cheap.

My main problem is this..... if you make a 3 hour long movie, try and make sure I am interested all 3 hours. 2 and a half hours of it was just the love story, and they only mention the reason why murdering all these aliens is so important a grand total of once.

Also unobtainum? I almost cried when I heard that.

as an avid scifi fan I liked them calling it unobtainium only cause that's the term used during a scifi discussion to describe such a substance

From me it gets 7-8/10. Felt like I've seen the same story several times and it was pretty predictable...etc
But the special effects and landscapes were nice ^^

that's generous, the most it'd get out of me is a 3/10
