As for my two cents about "Moe is killing the industry": Many anime directors indeed claim that if studios such as Kyoani and SHAFT continue to pander to "otaku" with large amounts of moe, then the anime industry is as good as dead.

I generally agree with Maskbackmanguy, although i have somewhat of a more agressive view on it..

I don't watch anime that use moe-elements, either "slice of life" "comedy" "romance" "school" because i find them wasted use of my time on the planet, i don't find many things funny... Neither do i find things "CUTE". The only anime in those genres i liked was Nichijou, but that was approved by me because of its sheer insanity, which is a good thing. I would rather use my time to watch an anime that i can reflect on, or a documentary that gives me insight on a subject, or generaly improve my skills in other fields...

The last thing i want to do is looking at a 10-16 yearold animated girl talk about boys, cry, whine and bitch about girl problems. i find that seriously offensive to sentient beings. They should shut the **** up, and find their place -> the kitchen.

Animes that are made to be cute and funny are retarded, in my personal view.
Please note that i have a special view on anime.

I understand a lot better now. It's exactly what I thought it was.
Moe isn't actually a thing, it entirely depends on the character being thought of as moe, to be moe. This means it can be applied to anyone or anything.
At it's most basic, it's simply a pile of character traits that someone finds appealing.

I have also run into a recent problem where I can often times completely forget a series, almost as if nothing important has happened/been worth remembering. Is this a result of the moefication of anime, opting to stress character design over actual content?

Moe sells, but oversaturation is bad and even worse is that moe genre is based on selling a tried and true formula (I.E. let's make everything cute and harmless and with the exact same personalities as every other moe series) so is amazing how it still sells since moe is so stagnant since it never takes risks or tries anything new.

Now to disagree with the poster a couple of posts up, moe can be used to define a certain type of character but when ever anyone talks about how bad moe is, they're talking about it as a genre. Keep in mind that moe isn't just a character's appearance, it's the entire character design so personality counts, that's why the cast of higurashi is moe for only like an episode.

my view of moe is something similar to parental love, a person creates a bond to the younger character [as stated above] simply because hes young,cute,inocent.
