A while back I was bummed out because I didn't get my vacation time for Otakon. Just today, my boss told me that one of the others had canceled theirs and now I've got the week off!:D

The reason I say this is that accommodations are damn scarce this late in the game. Is there anybody who's going that would be willing to let me share a hotel room with them? I'll pay my share of the costs and I'd even be willing to use my FedEx employee discount to ship any stuff back to your home. I know this is a little odd :sweatdrop:, but I'd hate to miss Otakon after getting such a great break.

P.S. I'd be willing to sleep on the couch in the Hotel if there is no spare bed.
P.P.S. Male roommates only.

In short: I'll try to spread the word and give it a shot, but it's unlikely I'll be of much help. So, if anyone else can help or needs a meat shie- er.. body, please step in!

I'll let my groups know you are interested, but I doubt they'll have a position. My team is fairly settled on our arrangement and I doubt they'll take on another, and male only would be an issue in our room anyway. There's another group that just switched to the Days Inn, but I'm almost positive they wouldn't take anyone they or I didn't know very well. (However, I'll see If they still have a hold on the other empty room. If one was available, would you be willing to takeover the full cost of a room, even if we didn't have anyone else to put with you? Basically, are you looking only for roomies to share with, or would an empty room be ok?)

There's one room I have in mind as their team is usually interested in reducing costs, but I'm not sure if they'd be ok with a new 'random' person. Though, they're your best bet that I could provide a connection to, so I'll check with them just in case.

Side note: Most of my groups are either in the area or are driving in rather than flying, so I'm not sure if they'd like to take advantage of that shipping discount, unless their vehicles are packed. But that's indeed a convenient bonus for the right people ;)

I'll ask around, but in reality probably can't provide much.

You might also start checking at places like the Rides/Roommates thread for Otakon at Cosplay.com (http://www.cosplay.com/forumdisplay.php?f=64) (just keep in mind what its like rooming with hardcore cosplayers ^_^; ) There's also been a place in the Otakon forums that might work. I'll see what I can do, but if I can't help.. I wish you the best of luck!

Update: Just got a call from my usual traveling companions. They changed their travel plans so they're going to Otakon after all! They didn't tell me before (probably because it'd only bum me out) but when I asked about hotel suggestions my buddy gave me the news! I'm deeply grateful for your willingness to help out a Hellmate in need. would anybody like to meet up? I think it'd be kinda fun to meet some of ya in person.

My friends got into pre-reg, but I got the news too late. Can I still buy my badge on Thursday when they go to pick theirs up? Or will I have to wait until Friday morning to buy my badge?

Ah, cool; then it looks like you're set. I haven't seen anything about the chance to register on Thursday, so you'll probably have to wait until Friday morning. Or, if you don't need to be there bright and early, you can try to wait for the line to thin out. Kinda up to you.

Turned out that the first group already has plenty of people in their room. I never got to the question of what degree of separation would be ok with the rest of the individuals in their room. Looks like one of the new acquaintances was able to work his schedule out.

For anyone else that's curious, there's also the hostel route. I've never stayed at one, but a friend of mine is pretty fond of them. Though most of what I've recently heard has been about hostels in Japan and Taiwan, and not much of ones in the US.

Before staying at a hostel watch the movie Hostel. It will make you feel so more comfortable. And by comfortable I mean it will make you never wanna stay in a hostel.

Well, it looks as if you have at least one con on the radar that is modelled similarly to ket, but for local artists? http://animecons.com/events/info.shtml/2244 Upon a quick inspection, the con's official site (http://animenz.com/) seems to suggest it's still happening July 24th?
That's at least something. Do you know anything about that one? (I don't really know anything, just saw it existed.) You might poke around the community there, which might also help gauge interest in starting something different, or maybe not?

Then for Scotland the best I see looking at that same map under convention schedule, I see something in Edinburgh that's mid november http://animecons.com/events/info.shtml/2160 (Apparently it moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh.) Then some more lower in the UK.

There may be more, but I figured it was quick to throw these out there. I'd assume those might already be known, but if not hopefully that may be of some help.

Well...

Yes, I watched bits and pieces of Hostel when my brother rented it as extra movie for himself during a family get-together. Though, my impression was a little different...

If anything, I thought that film was meant to inspire entrepreneurship and encourage individuals to embrace the hostel network and subsequently spawn a new darknet of flourishing startup hostels. :rolleyes: Then again, maybe I saw a different movie... >:3

In fact, I figured startups would begin small with trial runs b-.. {message truncated}

Spoiler: BAD_END for the hostel route...
[url=http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/1940/badend.jpg]http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1940/badend.jpg (You see, I've changed and won't continue this. This does not necessarily represent the feelings and opinions of the poster. In actuality I'm not particularly fond of horror films by any means, and won't go out of my way to watch them, and really wasn't impressed with what I saw of hostel. -- As much as it might be entertaining, I wouldn't want to give a false and troubling impression. Also, there are many decent messages here, though one of the more dubious intentions is in escalating it in hopes of killing it, rather than just leaving or snubbing it, sorry couldn't resist the sudden idea, that and the chance to play an amusing part.)
Just don't open the wrong doors. Or, alternatively (http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/1319/badendne.jpg).

And, one possible representation (nsfw-ish) (http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8435/badendbinchou.png) to make sense of the current situation. No? Well, she tried at least. ;_;

Erm what is this Thread about?

It was about finding nate a place to stay for the con. That's concluded, however. So the thread could more or less be closed/finished.
