Abyss and I had a brief exchange about Starcraft II in the random rants, so I thought I'd ask everybody else's opinion.
Do you think that Blizzard is just giving their fans the great big 'ol middle finger by only giving us the Terran campaign now? Or does it give you something to look forward to next year?

hmm, that's not what my side was at all... moreover Blizzard has been giving their fans the middle finger since 2001

I've played it and they planned to make it a trilogy so the campaign gets lame near the end; and it's terran campaign only..lil protoss but that's it....though rumors of an expansion coming out that lets you play the other 2 campaigns

having played through it twice now to try out some different tech-selections and upgrade combinations, I've become more supportive of the plan to split it into three games.
while yes it is sad that we have to wait about a year for the story to continue, the armoury/cantina/laboratory set-up for upgrading your forces, hiring mercs, and researching awesome stuff would feel slightly out-of-place in a protoss campaign, and would probably have to be thoroughly tweaked at least concept and appearance-wise to fit at all in the zerg one.
thankfully with this they have most of the core of the game down so we shouldn't have to wait to long for Heart of the Swarm (Zerg campaign, next on slated to release), and it should be interesting to see how they do things for it.
random-side note: Those 29 levels were some of blizzards best map/concept designs I've seen in a long time, especially the zombie level and the train-hijacking level.

See, the problem is while those maps were for the most part fun, every map had a gimmick and it's not like more than about 3 weren't just different takes on old Blizzard map concepts, I would have liked it a little bit more had they put fewer gimmick maps in

I played through the whole campaign, and while it was very nice and high quality, it just felt kinda short.
With the amount of time that blizzard had to develop this game, I think we should have gotten all three campaigns.
I hope they sell the other ones at a big discount, because otherwise I doubt many people will buy them.

I'm going to buy them (probably), but I'm still not happy about the price

Sorry Abyss, didn't mean to misrepresent your POV :sweatdrop: Blizzard has indeed been screwing us over. F***ing WoW.

just finished it. it's a great game, but if blizzard wants $40 extra (at least that's my estimate) for a little added storyline and units only useable in single-player...twice...im not going for it.

That's another bone in my craw. Why the hell aren't all of the units usable in multiplayer? Or at least in the vs. AI mode. It blows goats man.

Yeah, also why are a lot of the removed units iconic ones from SC1, everyone recognizes the firebat and medic
then again I play toss and I recognize pretty much nothing, even the zealots work completely differently.

I was planning on getting this, but the price is a bit much when knowing 2 expansions are coming out, there is no LAN capabilities and the restrictions on multiplayer units.
My biggest issue is the LAN. I know that to many this doesn't matter as you can just get online and play, but if you're someone like me who takes your laptop to Uni, and LANs games with friends during long, boring lectures, its a feature you'd like to have.
The only reason I'd buy the game right now is for the custom maps that can come off it (such as NotD)... I might wait till the game is fully released and maybe turns into a battle chest, or at least the price drops a bit.

pissed me off when I went MP, no medics, wraiths; miss my dragoons ands lurkers

stalker are the dragoon equivilent, and they may be less durable but they're one of the better toss strategies thanks to their blink ability making them amazing.
Fish, if you have SC2 and you're not interested in multiplayer even a little then you should reconsider gaming, I'm not trying to be mean but even at a minimum, playing with friends against a CPU is a lot of fun.
Xalorith: Yeah, no lan is a problem and I know it's just them trying to curb piracy, anti piracy never works and only pisses off gamers: NO ONE LIKES DRM, and while I can see how it can be necessary there is taking it too far, Blizzard even in this case is far from the worst offender but but they overstepped a bit here. And really it's just disappointing that the sequel to one of the best LAN games ever doesn't have LAN support

well I usually play over direct ip or play on lan with my mates but as this game has only got online I cant play it with people, I would buy it but most of my mates are dirt poor so I still wouldnt be able to play it with anyone I know...

yea, im ticked that the lan's gone too.
another problem im noticing is surprisingly one from WoW: too much AoE. units like reapers and the colossus do so much damage in one area, it's really hard to use a lot of ground units like zerglings or marines.

too much AoE isn't a problem, the game is based around hard counters and the best hard counter to the terran bioball is AoE, moreover there really really really isn't too much of it, a select few units have it and one of them has to self destruct to use it. Actually this is the kind of complaint I'd expect from someone who macros everything because they suck at microing

The thing is there really aren't, there's collosi, banelings, mutas, ultras, hellions and siege tanks in siege mode. That's actually only a few more since the last game. I think terrans might also get an AoE air uinit but I can't think of one off the top of my head I'm a toss player. I suppose you might also count units with AoE abilities the high templar or raven but I'm not because it's not their default attack. I suppose if you count those you might have something more of a point but not much since the following would still apply; most of these manifest in completely different ways than each other making each not as useful (or even useful at all) as others in certain situations. This is really the kind of complaint that someone with absolutely no understanding of game design would make. But hey I realize I probably can't get you to change your mind on this so I'll just say one last thing, if it really bothers that much there are a multitude of other RTS games where you don't have to worry about all the AoE units running around, why not play one of them instead? It'd probably be cheaper to get one that starcraft anyway.
