This anime has been pretty troublesome in regards to translation and understanding it's general humor for some reason. Every time I try to start watching it there's I get so distracted by some joke that got lost in translation or some important cultural note left out by every fansub and I can't get past the third episode or so. Surely I'm not the only one with this problem, so I figured I'd make a thread where we can go episode by episode and try to fill in the gaps. I'll keep an updated list in this first post for easy reference (and maybe a later post if there's a character limit I don't know about on these threads). I'll add a question mark in parentheses after a bullet point if there's a question that needs answered.
Episode 1
-KY is a Japanese acronym for "kuki yomenai", which is someone in a group who stands out due to obliviousness, often ruining the mood of a discussion online or some other such thing.

Didn't even notice. I thought the show was hilarious even without some of the Japanese language jokes.

I was thinking there would have been more questions after a few days... Am I the only fan of the show who obsesses over the little details or just doesn't get it?
Damn, I thought this thread would be a little more lively than the Madoka one at least...

Wasn't a problem for me either. (watched it on CR so no TL notes but I still enjoyed it fine)

It's not like anyone's bought it, they just go to one of the many sites online and watch it. But you sir are a saint, such a thing would never cross your mind! It really is sad that nobody does buy the stuff though, though it's just as sad when the english dub is so bad you refuse to throw money at it. Regardless, I'm sure the answers I'm looking for won't be touched on, and just given some lazy alternative like when in Azumanga Daioh they said it would look cute if Chiyo-chan dressed up as "a wall" for their haunted house.
Watching anime on sites? Madness! Most folks just download anime directly from torrents (http://bakabt.me/163275-nichijou-my-ordinary-life-underwater-commie.html) these days.
Also, I've never seen Nichijou. Just came here to make that post.

A lot of us don't buy the anime because we're poor and don't have the money. Believe me, if I had the money, I would start buying the anime I enjoy.

money isnt the only key factor is pirating, thers the issues of obtaining the physical object anf having a place to discard them after use

I like to keep stuff I buy rather than throw it out after one use :P.
Then again I'm a dragon and like to hoard things....

I admit to being only 15 so getting it would require me to get a credit card from my parents which would be wierd when they find out what I bought...

If Nichijou ever came to America, I would so get it xD Of course, that might be a while since Bandai had the rights to it, but was cancelled when Bandai downsized or whatever they did.

Pretty off-topic, but whatever happened to the companies involved with the When They Cry series'? No news of the next part of Umineko and to my knowledge Higurashi Kai hasn't been localized yet. Are these separate issues?

idk about umineko, but higurashi was under Geneon, which I think something happened to them. I do wish they'd dub Kai already xD
