Higurashi no naku koro ni~
Umineko no naku koro ni was **** lol Not complete ****, but, it was drawn-out some moments and had a super confusing end lol Higurashi was confusing, but you soon grasp the concept of what's truly going on after watching a dozen or so episodes.

Tiger and Bunny was pretty great. Unfortunately, the second half of the series isn't as strong as the first half, but it is still a recent anime with entertainment value.
Try Guin Saga. The only problem was the ending. That is to say, it was based on a novel series that was over 100 volumes. The show only adapted the first few, but the part it did adapt was very good.
It's a fantasy anime about an amnesiac man with a leopard mask permanently attached to his face. He's trying to figure out who he is and is also trying to help two children save their fallen kingdom.

I love Nyan Koi! A little disappointed that they try to wrap up everything in the last half of the last episode, but really enjoyed it and hope they do make
a second season.
I second Black Lagoon tho I didn't get very far with it.
Surely, you have watched Haruhi if not, get on it at once!
I've also had D-Gray Man recommended to me on several occasions, tho I haven't watched it yet.

I'd recommend Fate/Zero but only if one plays the Fate/Stay Night VN beforehand or plans to read F/SN at all. If you cannot tolerate the VN and don't PLAN on reading it ever, then you can watch Fate/Zero as then you don't have to worry about major F/SN plot points not present in the F/SN anime. Ending is kind of rushed though, although Fate/Zero is a mecca for possible AMV material.
For some reason I want to see Schindler's List: The Musical put to the last two episodes of the second season, lol.

I recommend Accel World. I could list others, but we'd be here for a while. lol. Accel World is a great series created by the same light novel author of Sword Art Online (also a good anime) and does a wonderful job of painting a futuristic world where V.R. is a reality and a major part of everyday life. When you take such technology and mix it with a bad ass fighting game, you're in for one hell of a time. As a bonus, the series' soundtrack is amazing, including its openings, endings, and bgm. I heavily recommend this to any viewer who can get past the unorthodox design of the short, overweight main protagonist. Don't know why, but his appearance enrages a lot of people and turns them away from the series.

Oh, how could I forget to mention Mazinkaiser SKL?
Unlike the original Mazinkaiser, which I think you've seen, based on a brief scene I saw you use from it in an AMV, this series has nothing to do with Kouji Kabuto or Doctor Hell. It's about two new pilots going to an island to stop the world from being destroyed by a dangerous device. It has a bit of the "heavy metal" theme going on there, but it's pretty ridiculous at the same time, so I suppose you could call it a parody of the typical grimdark show.

I liked Natsume Yuujinchou and Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna
Not sure which came first, but that sounds suspiciously like Utawarerumono.
The novel Guin Saga was adapted from came out in 1979. They wanted to adapt the series earlier on, but the author refused to let any studio touch her work unless it were going to be a live action movie with Caucasian actors. As expected, there weren't enough white people in Japan that were interested to do that, so she just gave up after 30 years and let a studio make an anime.

chuunibyou demo koi ga ****ai: A girl who suffers from Chuunibyou, or '8th grade delusions', and believes that she has superpowers, finds a boy who suffered from them in middle school, and tries to recruit him as the 'Dark Flame Master'
Ore no Imouto: Kyosuke Kosaka, a normal 17-year-old high school student living in Chiba,[3] has not gotten along with his younger sister Kirino in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyōsuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever. One day however, Kyosuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime which had fallen in his house's entrance way. To Kyosuke's surprise, he finds a hidden eroge (an adult game) inside the case and he soon learns that both the DVD and the game belong to Kirino
Shinryaku! Ika Musume: A Squid Girl comes up on shore, claiming to want to conquer the earth in order to get revenge on humans for polluting the oceans. Hilarious situations ensue.
Haibane Renmei: Reki and the other Haibane—who are all teenage girls and younger children—live in "Old Home," an abandoned school in the country near the town of Glie. As time passes, Rakka learns more about Old Home and the Haibane who live there, about Glie, in which the townspeople are friendly and generous to the Haibane, and about "Abandoned Factory," where a second co-ed group of Haibane lives
Kuro****suji: Ciel Phantomhive, a boy who has been kidnapped and tortured, summons a demon in order to get revenge on his captors in exchange for his immortal soul.
Witch Hunter Robin: A young woman from Italy, a Craft user named Robin Sena joins the STN-J in order to hunt down and capture witches who have become drunk on their own power.
Ergo Proxy: The story begins in a futuristic domed city called Romdeau, built to protect its citizens after a global ecological disaster thousands of years prior. In this utopia, humans and AutoReivs (androids) coexist peacefully under a total management system. A series of murders committed by robots and AutoReivs infected with the Cogito virus (which causes them to become self-aware) begins to threaten the delicate balance of Romdeau's social order. Behind the scenes, the government has been conducting secret experiments on a mysterious humanoid life form called a "Proxy." The Proxy beings (described as God-like and Immortal) are believed to hold the key to the survival of mankind.
Elfen Lied: Women with psychic arms called Vectors, but also with violent tendencies are hunted down by a secret agency. But one escapes and makes it to a shore city in Japan where she runs into the main characters, and memories of the past begin to resurface.
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase: A young vampire named Hazuki is rescued from her lonely castle in Germany and taken back to Japan with Kouhei and his grandfather. Kouhei's family is a family of mystics, but Kouhei never displayed any extraordinary powers save the ability to take pictures of ghosts, and his seeming immunity to Hazuki's vampiric powers.
A-Channel: If you've seen Azumanga Daioh, you might like this. It's about four school girls in hilarious school situations.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: A Government organization, Section 9, cracks down on cyberterrorism in the futuristic Tokyo.
Deadman Wonderland: A 14 year old boy named Ganta is wrongfully accused of murdering his entire class, and sent to the first privately owned prison called Deadman Wonderland where he discovers his strange ability to control his blood, and is thrust into a world of danger, intrigue, and long buried memories.
Eden of the East: It's about a guy named Akira who wakes up naked waving a gun in front of the White House, and finds out that he's part of a strange conspiracy to create a perfect Japan. One of 12 people called Selecaos who have been given 10.000.000.000 Yen that they can spend however they want, but that must ultimately be used toward creating a perfect Japan. If they fail, they are killed.
Okami-san and her Seven Companions: A romance comedy parodying fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, The Ant and the Grasshopper etc. Ryōko Ōkami (the eponymous Ōkami-san) is a tomboyish high school girl. She is a member of a "trading" club so called Otogi High School Bank. She and the other members of the club (such as her partner Akai Ringo aka Little Red Riding Hood) fixes the problems students (or "clients"), at any lengths, in exchange for the student helping them out later.
Hellsing: The Hellsing Organization has been exterminating vampires for hundreds of years. Their secret weapon, a modified vampire named Alucard is the most powerful vampire in existence, or so they thought, until a new threat emerges.
Hellsing Ultimate: Basically follows the Hellsing Manga
Black Lagoon: The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as Lagoon Company, that smuggles goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the early to mid 1990s. Their base of operations is located in the fictional harbor city of Roanapur in southeast Thailand (somewhere in the Amphoe Mueang Trat district,

Just remembered Claymore which is an extremely serious anime based in midevil times with demons and such.
And My bride is a mermaid. Which is full of random shenanigans and tends to keep you at least chuckling or grinning.
Well, Kaiji was made 5 years ago, rather than 4, but I'm assuming you haven't seen it.
It's an adaptation of a manga made in the 90s about a guy who's a big loser, that can't seem to get a break. At the same time, he seems to be an adept gambler and can get out of tough spots using his wits and a little luck. Even when it seems as if he's done for, he'll find some way to survive.
