No, you know what? I take it back. AMV Hell 6 isn't vaporware, because it's going to be coming out... At the exact date they originally said. It's going to come out on the date of the mayan apocalypse, just like it was initially supposed to. They've been telling us about an early release ever since october, and they've been jerking us around ever since, why? Because they want the extended wait to bring more traffic to the site!
I think that would actually be detrimental to their popularity. Dragging it out would make some people tired of waiting.

I mean, is there any proof that they actually showed this video at a convention?

Not that it has any effect on what SSG is going to do with this abomination of a movie/AMV, but this should turn into "Make Taglines for AMV Hell 6."
Why? Because we want to make SSG feel bad for making us wait so long. Force that lazier-than-me brass tard to finish the coding for this already!

Yes, and my shows were made on SD masters. If a show was produced in actual High Definition, I acquired it using alternative methods, due to my lack of a BD drive. Standard definition stopped being relevant years ago, so I generally try to avoid it for the production of AMVs and the acquiring of anime in general, when I can. Only real issue for working with 1080p/720p for everything is the space it takes up.

I remember when I was happy having my favorite seven episodes of Slayers TRY! on my old, old, decrepidly old Sansa MP4 player from 2002. Being able to carry every Slayers series with me both digitally and on Blu-ray is something to be cherished, not taking into speculation and put under the microscope because of how it's delivered. Finalizing statement for this post is my tagline would be "The Mayans were wrong. But we sure as HELL weren't."

The space is not an issue considering the size of HDDs and Flash drives in general these days.
1. Depends on how much anime you watch. If you're like me and grab an ungodly amount of shows, it becomes an issue. I managed to fill a 500 GB drive in 2 or 3 months.
2. We've all had to get a Bloatgirls SUPER HIGH BITRATE encode of a show at some point... Well, maybe not all of us, but it's happened to a few before.
3. In the case of AMVs, if you want to make one properly, you'll have to render the finished product as an uncompressed avi file, then encode that file into an mp4 file with the help of Zarx264gui. Uncompressed 1080p footage is huge. Imagine making an hour long AMV and having to set aside all that space for a few hours, waiting for that processing to finish before you can delete that tumor from your computer's brain. Depending on your frame rate, you could be looking at 668 Gigabytes of space taken up by that avi file. And that's just with the standard 23.967 frames per second. If you were, for some crazy reason, trying to do an entire hour long video at 60 frames per second in 1080p, you'd be using up roughly 1.7 Terabytes of space.

Finalizing statement for this post is my tagline would be "The Mayans were wrong. But we sure as HELL weren't."
Just play Duke Nukem Forever and you'll get an experience that's roughly the same as watching AMV Hell 6, most likely.

Exactly why I try to avoid doing that, at this point. Even if that means going without proper vidya games for a day while waiting for an AMV to encode, forcing me to use my PS Triple for entertainment.

Probably won't work in this case, but make a 360p project, do the whole thing like that, then set everything to the proper settings when you're done. That's what I occasionally have to do with Sony Vegas, at least.

Despite my constant "nay-saying," I'm actually still kind of excited about AMV Hell 6. I still think it might come out at some point, at least. For what it's worth, we may have a Touhou situation. That is to say, the main product may be mediocre, but the hilarity surrounding it shall be entertaining. Kind of like Minis.

I must disagree. I usually can't find too many folks to discuss the types of shows I want to discuss. Granted, there are a few, but that's just it: A few. I'll have to go to /m/ to talk about a lot of the stuff I like. On that note, I've noticed a few folks are pretty silent here unless there closer friends are around, never really willing to branch out on there own, and that's always sort of annoyed me. Or are you referring to the potential discussion to things such as fanart and remix videos? If so, I more or less agree. From what I've observed, the former arguably seems to be more discussed than the latter on here, somehow.

Are we talking about the same site, here? Where are these gods of anime knowledge? Also, after a few times, stupid questions are looked down upon. Once we've tried to help someone with the same thing multiple times, our patience grows thinner and thinner. Also, the throne thing doesn't really apply here. That sounds more like some AMV.org stuff.

Young? Maybe. AMV.org? That site died about seven months ago. I watched it fall slowly into Death's grasp since 2009. As for anything related to anime, I was talking about stuff people who use the internet but aren't absolute addicts (otakus I believe is the right term) to anime can have a good time here. This site is more about goofing off and trying to get more people into this already stagnant culture via AMVs they can relate to. In other news, I might post something in here that could be used as a quote people look up to hundreds of years from now. (Not likely to happen though.)

Getting people to join the dying AMV scene is easier said than done, sadly. I try to get people to discuss/watch AMVs, but that usually doesn't go anywhere. I try to get people to make AMVs, but no one ever really wants to. I try to help the people that already make AMVs improve their current work, but a lot of them don't listen to anything I say and use the banner of "just doing it for fun" as an excuse for mediocrity, despite the fact that bad videos = less fans, less fans = lower motivation to make videos. lower motivation to make videos = less videos made, and less videos made = less fun, meaning they should actually try to do better if they want to have fun. (Yes, I stole that quote from AnimeLawyers)

Many years ago I stumbled across AMV Hell 3: The Motion Picture while randomly searching for AMVs so as to get my friends at the School Library addicted to anime. For four days we went to the Library during lunch and watched AMV Hell 3 (which I had conveniently on my PSP which hooked up to the TV there).
I inadvertently discovered all of this stuff via a friend telling me about how some anime series were re-cut for the American audience, namely Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. I Googled that and found a scene cut from the dub involving some Japanese guys washing together. Anyway, I tried to find it again another day and accidentally clicked on one of the Yu-Gi-Owned GX videos made by SunlightHeartStudios, which he described as an AMV Hell-style project. I then searched that and found what he was talking about, and ran with AMVs from there. It's even funnier, considering my friend that told me the first thing wasn't even all that into anime to begin with.

Afterwards the Book Club turned into the Anime/Manga Club, and soon they were asking me to not only do my minicomics for the school's newspaper. but also make AMVs for them in my spare time. Since all I had were DBZ and Cowboy Bepop DVDs, that's what the AMVs had. Songs and duration ranged from "Bohemian Rhapsody" (4:56 running time) to "It's a Wondeful Life" (2:33 running time). I did my best to help us, and seven years later the two who went with me have made a moderately succesful webcomic (the Blogger site is gone, sadly) and went on to submit things to various TV stations and have them aired.
I started making AMVs on a challenge from a friend. I made a terrible, terrible Let's Play 2 years ago and another guy I know that made (and still makes) horrible AMVs questioned the quality of the Let's Play. I then said "at least I put effort into my videos, unlike you do with your AMVs" and we joked around with that until I decided I'd make one. Being absolutely ****tarded at the time, I just found the highest quality raw of Highschool of the Dead's first episode on YouTube of all places, and then lazily synced a Japanese Rap/Rock song to it using Pinnacle Studio. It was really, really, really bad. So bad, in fact, that I retconned it as a guide on how not to make AMVs. My friend still liked it though, for some stupid reason, and my ego ascended from there.

I went on to make some more ****ty videos using similar techniques until I became conceited enough to go to AMV.org, which I think I discovered via an AMV showing a screencap of it. I showed one of my slightly better abominations and some said it wasn't bad for a beginner's video. raising my conceit even higher. Then, I decided to remake that first video of mine with the full version of that song, since I only used the TV size version of it, thus proving how lazy I was, using an anime opening from another show for an AMV without trying to do a Parody OP or anything.

Posted it on AMV.org, got chewed out and had an epiphany: I was **** at making AMVs and I hadn't really read any guides on it yet, so I was just guessing my way through this and only avoiding the most obvious mistakes such as not using hardsubbed fansub footage. At that point, I tried to ignore it for a while, a few more videos were made, and then I realized that I had to do things the correct way, with DVDs/CDs/BDs/x264 encoded raws/softsubs. I actually appreciate the shame and mental stress that AMV.org's members brought to me. I probably would've stagnated otherwise.

Right before that, I registered on this site about a year ago, showed a crappy AMV Hell clone of my own, and got a minor amount of praise due to it being my first attempt at that sort of thing, mostly for using a wider variety of shows than most people's typical Haruhi/Naruto/DBZ/Lucky Star cluster****s. Anyway, after getting a bit of encouragement (for mediocrity) I got the idea to make a collab with a guy I met on here. Took us a whole year to get it done, but we got it out. Imperfectly, of course. Back to the timeline, though, after I read through the guides a little, I acquired Sony Vegas, started using the right sort of footage, polished up my editing skills, and eventually learned about correct rendering/encoding.

So yeah, it took me a pretty long time to get halfway decent at this stuff. The moral of this story: Read the guides from the start so you won't take a year and a half to get decent at AMV editing, kids!

As for our culture, AMVs are going the way of the CD Player, and we can do nothing but try to make more with better songs and more interesting shows. It doesn't help that people on YT keep posting essentially the same thing or stealing our AMVs when they're clearly on our channel. When I get enough money to get some Blu-Rays, I'm making a series of AMVs dedicated to this site. Rant over.
I might as well stick around to the bitter end. I'm not done just yet, and I don't plan on giving up any time soon. I've sort of shunned YouTube at this point, and I really don't care about videos being "stolen." Not like I'm making money off of this ****. Besides, I can cause a bit of lulz by bringing up how the vid was stolen if I actually start caring. Assuming someone will still a video of mine, at some point... Also, how was that a rant? It seemed more like regular rambling to me.

Yes, of course I realize that. That's still no reason to do it badly, though. Making an AMV is like urinating: If you're going to be pissing over someone else's work, at least make it elegant and don't just aim at the floor. I'm merely a perfectionist with everything I do, even something as retardedly derivative as splicing Japanese cartoons to music. I'd say it's all in good fun, but given how I'll spend hours and hours trying to perfect minor details, I'm sure most folks besides me would refer to it as something a bit more serious than a fun hobby. Of course, at the very least, I don't take it as seriously as the AMV.org people. Maybe they don't like me because I don't believe AMVs are completely serious ****ing business and that a little fun should be had here and there.

You have an excellent point there. Doing these sorts of things does in fact lead to a lot of people wanting to get a similar effect, but with questionable results. I'll go full circle and compare it to someone writing a good book, then another person making a terrible fanfiction based on the book, since that's more or less what we're doing here anyway. To be accurate, I'm more concerned with the quality of AMVs that people actually go out of their way to show me. If someone just makes a crappy video using a song and show I don't care about and keeps it to them self, or at least don't whore out the YouTube link on sites like a few folks do, then I'm not nearly as concerned. I'm no paragon looking to save everyone from mediocrity. Rather, I'm just here to help those that actually feel the need to go out of their way to show their **** off. Seeing as how this site runs pretty slowly, that's not much of an issue, seeing as how only like maybe 1 video gets posted here a week. Of course, I've stopped trying to help people as much as I used to, due to how brain dead some of these thickheaded children seem to be. Though if I see something that's absolutely terrible, I feel inclined to say something.

Also, I still think YouTube is partially responsible. So many kiddies together in one place making the Call of Duty of AMVs with no Quake players to tell them any better, et cetera et cetera...

I got through the whole thing without paying money and I manged to register 2 years ago, when I was still just slightly above YouTube level in the terms of internet power levels. See, this is another problem The Org has. With a nonsensical registration process such as this one, it's no wonder they're seen as having a veritable idiot filter. Over the course of a year, these insane people have warped my innocent mind beyond recognition, for better or worse. I remember I used to not like watching walls of debating on the internet. I've been saying that for months, though with slightly different phrasing. I usually phrase the first part as "we stopped caring," rather than the thing about stopping the creation of them for the sake of ****s and giggles. And I usually phrase the latter part as "having circle jerks over mediocrity," but you get the idea. Although, to be fair, the circle jerks only apply to a few folks that still treat Minis as super hallowed ground, and as such, anything said about that series is serious business.

not egzagtly a way, more like knowladge, how to deal with issues, predict them, deal with people and especialy assholes, and usualy there comes a time when money is involved which scrambles every rule made on the first day.

If I were to really go out and found my own website, which I don't plan on doing, I'd try to avoid making the site ruled by money for as long as possible. Or at the very least, I'd try not to let greed get in the way of my desire to achieve our common goal. As for assholes, I'd actually keep them around. No pussies allowed on my imaginary site. That worked for 4chan. Kind of. Though I probably would have a very slight amount of moderation. That is to say, I'd at least want people to have a reason for attacking others, rather than just randomly insulting people, like those folks I complain about do.

Just got my interwebnetz back, and the first thing I come back to is lamenting. In any case I used to make AMVs to challenge myself. Used to be the only thing I could do when it came to a computer was destroy everything and then restore it so I could continue playing old Elder Scrolls games. Learning how to go beyond basic coding and figuring out how to time everything was a serious thing to me, because I knew everything came down to coding when it came to dynamic digital art. And yes, as much time as I've spent with them, Americans do love themselves a bit too much. But being a world SuperPower gives them that selfish self-centered arrogant right.
