I'm a huge AMV Creator and I could use a little assistance. I need to know if I can take a video file and separate the audio from it and if so I need a free progran I can use. Please and thank you.

Can't you just throw the video file in the audio tray of an editing program and take what parts you want from there? (assuming you want to get a specific portion)

I could but I also need to separate the music and the speech form the original clip

I would suggest converting the file from whatever codec it's currently in to MP3/WAV using FVD Suite. It's completely free (not to mention bugless and virus-free) and is what I use to get audio clips from DVDs I rip.

But is there a way I can separate the vocal audio from the music???

Oh, that's what you're asking. That's beyond my knowledge I'm afraid.

Oh boy! Something I can help with. There is no way you can separate the vocals from the music without a lot of hard work and it doesn't always work. To put it plainly, there is no guaranteed way to do this. If there was you'd see a lot more acapella's of songs. I dunno what you are doing but I suggest searching google for whatever acapella you are looking for. If you can't find it that way... Well then you are just gonna have to live without it.

well, there may be a possible solution.

If you happen to have the original AAC audio file from the DVD, you can use MeGUI (free)
Under Tools; HD Streams Extracter.
If you have, say 5.1 audio, Selecting "WAVS" for your output format, will give you 5
WAV files, one for each Channel. If you then use the Center channel file, you should get more
prominent voice with minimized ambient sounds.
From there experiment with noise filters and such.
And finally, dub in your own background track to fill in dead space between dialog
and to mask any remaining leftover from your voice track.
(This (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/56054393/XX%20AMV%20MINI%20UPLOADS%20XX/STUDIO%20Forum/Video%20Files/ZEDS%20DEAD%20II.mp4) is an example.)

Good Luck =)
