I'd be willing to bet it could be just as funny, but wouldn't have the same charm . . AMV Hell fans tend to be anime addicts also, which adds to the joy of watching the series, but if it was all American cartoons . . Hmm' . . It's something to think about. If anything I bet it would reach a wider audience.

I think it could work, admittedly, there are less 'adult' cartoon than there are anime...so that might nip some jokes.

Aren't american cartoons where we get some of the audio tracks for the amvs in AMV Hell? Family Guy and stuff. I don't think it would work as well, seeing as I don't know of many Otaku for amercian shows, but I like the idea. I agree that it could work, though I don't think it would be as funny.

I think a good chunk of the appeal for AMV Hell is the in-jokes ("what if god was one of us" sung by Haruhi, etc.), which may be harder to do with American cartoons. Although, I doubt any really obscure cartoons would be used, so I'd at least be interested in seeing the final product.
Wait a minute, wouldn't that just be Robot Chicken?

Lip syncing would be a b--ch, that's for sure. Not impossible, but jeez my mind hurts just thinking about it.

A lot of us already complain about the glut of Family Guy bits.

Well there's always non-talking scenes to set fitting music to, or non-fitting music, depending on what you're going for. :D

actualy I love AMV hell because I am an anime-hater, which is why I love how it pokes fun at some series.
its true, the voice acters for cartoons are paid 10 times that of dubbing anime, and the cartoons are fitted to the voice of the actors, and its alot more detail.

Wait, wait, wait! Is this TRUE?! Or is that a snide joke aimed at the generally perceived quality of anime VAs.
I just wanna make sure. If that's true, that's total balls.

It's true. Dubbing existing footage always pays a lot less.

The thing there is that with voice actors you're paying for the actor and they'll hold out for a lot more. With Dubbing you're going for who's voice best fits the Char and there fore people are unable to hold out because of the excuse that there's always some one better. If you did manage to get someone famous to do dubbing they'd probably try to demand the same they'd get from voice acting.
As for an "American" AMV Hell i just can't see it working. One reason i watch anime over anything made here is because motion quality is A LOT smoother in anime. When they hit someone their fist follows through, unlike say batman where it just hits his face and either curves as if there was nothing there or just stops like he'd hit a brick wall. A "Cartoon Hell", if you will, would have a lot less potential for jokes or music that fits motion. Plus, though i may be wrong, A great deal more people watch anime than american cartoons nowadays and therefore the number of viewers would be massively lower than AMVHell.

So I'm assuming this applies to works like Spongebob/kids next door/Phineas & Ferb, as well as big stuff like Family Guy or animated movies like Shrek?
If so... *sigh* I understand this is a business, just like most all forms of entertainment, and the US cartoon VAs taking advantage of their position is only natural, nay, smart. That being said.... Well, I often joke about things making me upset, but there are actually few things that piss me off to the point of near depression. This may be one of them.
On a high note though, anime voice actors seem like they have a blast doing what they do, so maybe it doesn't matter that much.
amv hell 5 used transformers.
I see an American version working best with 1980's shows like thundercats johnny quest, transformers, voltron and other shows like that.
I think It would be funny.

Yeah. Unfortunately everything's about money nowadays. If you download you quickly find that out. Even if you watched subbed anime you'll eventually find the site you DL from or the anime itself removed from the net because its been Licensed here and they want their money bad enough they'll sue just so that company is the only one in the US you can get it from.

The Transformers movie was animated by Toei. It's anime.

Getting back to the main topic, after poking around YouTube, I guess there's already quite a number of AMVs using American cartoons. Quite a disturbing amount of "Bart Simpson & Sideshow Bob" AMVs . . The thought that there's probably erotic fan fiction with the two of them is enough to make me lose faith in humanity.

But once you include things like short & full length films, and possibly internet cartoons, you have more options to choose from. :D

I've poked around with some Western Animation, and some Live Action...not always with good results. Maybe there should be a special with just western animation. But thats just me.

Ive thought about this idea to myself a few times, and it seems like something that could work out on paper, but maybe not succeed in a real life example. I don't know, but if it does work, it would be totally awesome Im sure.

the prob is, we adapt the lips more to the shows script, so it would be extremely hard to sync it the least bit.
