As much as I approve of more Pacific Rim, I felt that none of those except the first one really clicked well.

Voted for number 6 anyway, best choice.

Vegeta Power clip would have been great without the speech bubbles, or at least with far quicker speech bubbles.

I did NOT need to hear Blurred Lines again. On the whole, this episode mostly reminded me of why I turned into a music snob and stopped paying attention to Top 40 lists.

Disappointed to not see any clips from "The Eccentric Family". I can dream, I guess.

****

a LOT of Miley Cyrus clips and a LOT of Pacific Rim clips.
ok so first of

2 and 4 were my favs, 4 actually got my vote but 2 was a VERY close second.
Would've EASILY given my vote to 12 if it wasn't for the background noise. 18 also did good but the messed up bass channel really killed my love for that one.

overall I found that a lot of the clips again dragged on for far longer than was necessary and weren't really funny or awesome or whatever.
This also confronted me again with the fact that:
2013 was kindova **** year tbh...

I would have liked to see more of the other animes from 2013, not just the super popular ones, but oh well. Far too much pacific Rim and Miley Cyrus, but I was expecting that to happen. Also, I must have been living in a cave as a lot of these things I had never heard of in 2013 D:

Wow, a quarter of the entries featured Pacific Rim, and only 2 song of Wrecking Ball. And all of them are not that great to be honest. And only 2 entries of Eminem.

I could have entered this challenge if work wasn't so hectic this holiday season, which would have been a clip show with Eminem's "Berzerk."

The only ones that caught my attention were the first and sixth.

05 was the one that got me the most, and did the Wrecking Ball joke the best.
Of course, then they repeated that joke too much... And the Pacific Rim jokes aside from maybe the first one weren't all that funny... That, and, a lot of the clips didn't make any sense initially...

Welp, 2, 4, 5, 6 (and 14) got it going for me.

Nothing extraordinarily mind blowing, but I'll take it. 6 could've taken this one if it had not used the speech bubbles.

I choose 5, for its simplicity.

so many good choices, to me this one was the most dificult to decide
at first I thought someone was trolling me with 11 and 20
8 was cool, but lack of video quality, I really dig Suesei no Gargantia
and... I ended up voting for N°3... I'm ashamed of myself... I did it for the plot (the backside story kill me)

Had to give the vote to 14. I felt it was the best put together, and besides, it's ****ing pokemon.

Honorable mentions: 6 was good to me (I didn't think the speech bubbles were a problem, not sure why there's so much bitching on that), 10 was quite hilarious, and I thought 13 was the best of the Pacific Rims (though it may be just because I love that song set to mech).

Also, I refuse to support anything that has to do with Miley Cyrus.

Sir Fluffykins
01-02-2014, 04:33 AM
Simple, it's because they came IN LIKE A WRECK~ING BALL!!

But seriously I hate that song, so I voted for DBZ Power, which uses another horrible song, but at least it was funny

Woo, mine got some comments!

SirLoinofBeef
01-02-2014, 04:56 AM
2: Pretty funny for that WTF factor.

3: Tried way too hard to do commentary on something only a small group of people will understand/care about (for the record, I'm not even familiar with the series in question).

6: Vegeta dancing never stops being hilariously awkward and out of character.

10: The ****?

As others have said, overuse of Pacific Rim and Miley Cyrus kind of hurts this. A lot of the clips also either don't have much direction or go on way longer than they need to. I think the judging crew needs to start having stricter enforcement of the time limit rule.

Chewi105

Judging crew? What judging crew? WE are the judging crew; we pick the best clip.
Also, overuse happens cause no one knows if someone else is using their audio/video source. I think an anonymous list of scources used should be present during the submitting period, or something. Like, it would just be an alphebetical list of the sources with no usernames, so we couldnt tell which audio went with what video or who made what.

So what your telling me is...if I put just opened up window movie maker slapped a clip from an anime in 2013 and a song from 2013 I would have made it into this challenge and could be close top five? Since wow so many videos were simply that.
I feel like I need to map out the good and bad....then really hound on why it was bad.

1: tried to do something, however it was half lip synched and it k didnt follow the song after the first scene....
2: Is a good enough joke and good edit.
3: Good concept with good effort, however i end up enjoying the concept more with no sound than with sound, I zoned out and just enjoyed the visual jokes with the music being none of the enjoyment.
4: Great concept and very well done. This is a good clip.
5: The only good Wrecking Ball clip, short sweet and was good.
6: Is an excellent clip, great concept and execution with added comedy with the speech bubbles. Its synched to the music perfect along with mouth movement I assume was edited but was done perfect. So thumbs up on this.
7: Its not a bad clip, its a decent concept and decent effort. Its pretty nice.
8: Fine...its not great remarkable or even fun. Its just ok.
9: Ok idea, half assed video. A few synched moments that turns into just music over a fight scene and results in a unexciting clip.
10: Its a nice idea, just dosnt deliver, also felt a bit long with both scenes in the clip.
11: ****....its ok edited. Just a simple idea which as showen later...its so simple we end up with two almost the exact same.
12 Its already funny scene with music put over it.....I dont see the true efforts of the editor in it.
13:Mechs with the Pacific Rim theme......Ok......but Pacific rim already did that....and better.
14: A fine enough idea and fine enough effort. Its a good clip. I am not a fan of it but it was nice.
15: Dosnt make much sense with a slight hint at a grander reveal....then just flops.
16: Starts of with Pacific rim music and monsters on screen. So it looks like this could be good....ok action is moveing along with the music beats....we stare at an anime fan's shelf...we see him shout with cat girls....read Drag-gumboll....aaaaaannnnd? Sorry I missed the point.
17:Music to Unicorn Gundam....I dont get it at all. Bad clip.
18: A fine enough clip filled with effort (unlike alot of these clips) however two things that throw me off. The TV Tokyo stamp bottom right and when the background goes brown, cannot see anything in the opacity and so it looks kinda of frozen untill brighter clips kick in and things happen. Decent ish idea with good effort.
19: Simple idea, decent effort and thus makes it sit about the 5th on the list of clips with any effort behind them. Decent clip thats maybe a little too simple and not anime.
20: **** clip amplified by the trolling nature of it. Which while the previous person probably made theirs with ernest. I think this entire clip is trolling outside of the visual spoiler nature.

I think I am gonna vote for 6 as I can only remember that one being good despite knowing there was a few more.

The whole point of the Challenges is to make the viewers the judges. If you see a bad clip, you don't let the editor believe that he was unfairly dismissed by Zarxrax's single subjective taste, you thoroughly confirm that he's definitely made a bad clip by it losing the vote.

Zarx is just the filter of video/audio quality. If it fails that its sent back to the person to try and fix the issues. Other than that Zarx aint the the one to filter "taste" which I actually wish most the editors for this one developed a sense of "taste" so we dont have to figure it out for them.

I'm kinda underwhelmed with this episode. It's just riddled with clips that never "Clicked" and or went on past their punchlines and murdered its own impact.

1: The editing and joke is solid and all but god damn - Why did the lip synching fail here? You can obviously edit so don't half ass those parts as they don't have to be perfect, but at least strive to fool the human eye which is easy to do.

2: Nice, simple, and to the point. I will never pass up the chance to laugh at matt.

3: Nice satire here and the editing has slight glimpses of pro work.

4: This is one of those clips to me that just didn't click. I can't suspend my believe for even the length of the clip that the audio goes here.

5: http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z372/NintendoPorn/SpongebobSquarepantsSUBTITLESChocolateParodyLarge. gif

6: I like it and good enough effort synching everything.

7: Obvious attempt to tell a story with the editing and that in itself is commendable. However, i wasn't feeling this one personally.

8: Interesting combination here with okay execution.

9: You should have stopped this after the chorus.

10: Okay, that was pretty funny.

11: ...Seriously? I didn't really feel it but i will always applaud an attempt to convey a story with the editing. Joke is a dud to me though but that's probably because while this is my first time hearing it I really don't like that song.

12: Don't really get that besides the end.

13: Don't get it.

15: I thought it was building up to something more than it actually was. Kinda ended up a dud to me.

16: Don't get it. Also, considering how standards have changed, allowing mouths to move unsynch'd is really going to murder most amvs now on sight.

17: Don't get it

18: The overlays over overlays do not work here and look a mess to me at times. Can't really talk since I use to do this **** myself but...

19: It had that epic feel to it but I think became a dud in the end by not really going anywhere meaningful to the lyrics. (at least to someone who hasn't seen that movie)

20: I'm in complete support of pissing people off for humor and since i haven't seen that show yet no harm done. Might be hell to pay once it's revealed who did what clip though.

I like the idea that was mentioned before of these being up to the community to hudge and doing a large compilation of the top picks from the challenge episodes. Now that we're in to the new year, it might in fact be a good time to start organizing that. Take the winners and maybe any video that got over a certain number of votes to help fill in for time, and put it out for the year's compilation (of course, waiting for the results of the 2013 challenge would be a good thing).

Overall I think this was an OK episode. About 45% of the entries were good ones or at least ok.

Good/Ok:
03- Good editing and all but maybe a little to long? Well that "Side plot... with a back story" gave me a little smile at least;)
07- Weakest of the good ones. The editing was nice but didn't find it that funny:S
08- Clearly the best (and the only good) of the pacific rim clips.
09- I liked this one but it should have ended after that pulse effect! Ended up being just a little to long
10- Ha! Crazy enough to work.

Favorites:
02- The only one that made me laugh. Short and efficient, good job with that one!
04- Very creative and it works surprisingly well! You really got their facial expressions right.
05- Best (and the only good) Miley Cyrus clip. Short and straight on point, me likey!
06- Good editing and quite funny.

The rest wasn't really worth commenting on except maybe 01 which was a good try but didn't really get to me
My vote stands between 2 and 5, have to think about this one before deciding

I would have liked to see more of the other animes from 2013, not just the super popular ones
I considered entering a short clip of Teekyu with ill-fitting music… but I could never mess with perfection like that.

No wonder I dislike the minis so much.
Well, we can’t think of these compiled videos as real “episodes”, they’re just a collection of AMV entries waiting to be scrutinised, after all. The sooner we accept this, the better.

========

@the low standards/ judging debate

If at least one entry in the bunch manages to raise a smile on you, then the round was a success. Any more is just a bonus.
The system is working well enough for now. Popularity may not be the best form of quality control, but all the winning entries so far can at least be considered funny.
Just enjoy the little taste of the judge’s life that Zarx has given us.

========

For starters, I’m happy that I don’t have to spout my regular catchphrase for this round, but I am sad that Gleeman failed to create a clip using Starbarians (http://www.amvhell.com/showthread.php?27620-AMV-Minis-Challenge-13-2013&p=516794#post516794) audio :[

01 – Attack the Sex Ninja – That lip syncing at the start certainly could have done with some improvement.

02 – WataMoFo – It is nice to hear the audible chocolate that is Mattroks’ basement-dweller voice.

03 – Infinite Plot – It’s been a while since we had a good fan service AMV, this was a welcome entry in that respect. The “side plot with back story” gag was chuckle-worthy.

05 – Kill La Subs – I’ll side with N.P.C.C. on this one, the subtitles really shouldn’t have been seen. Subs aside, the clip was at least kept short and it actually had a punch-line(!) Didn’t find it particularly funny, but the effort is appreciated.

08 – Pacific Gargantia – This was nicely edited and a good a fit. Everything was perfect up until the 3:03 mark, after this point things felt a little slow paced, some more mecha action and fewer shots of the pilot might have given the end a bit more energy. Not particularly funny, but an entertaining entry regardless.

14 – Pokeymans – I’m curious about the 6:00-6:07 section, what exactly was the point of ending the clip in this way? That was an easy seven seconds that could have been trimmed. Also, that border… dot matrix with stereo sound… I don’t get it.

13 – Please help me and answer this question: where is the humour and entertainment to be found in this clip? Call me ignorant, and other insults, but to me this clip displays no wit whatsoever.
Try adding a joke in your next entry, please. For deity’s sake, please.

15 – DBZ – See 13.
16 – A sequence of images with audio – See 13.
17 – See 13.
18 – Wat – See 13.
19 – Specific Rim – See 13.

A terrible collection of entries on the most part... but at least one was good. So big success.

What I mean is it's nice to have your entry excepted and not feel you just wasted all that time and effort trying to make the best video you can just have it rejected by the vague opinion of one of the judging team usually something along the lines of erm not that good.

But on the challenge 9 clip you mentioned and linked, that probably would have made it in even if there had been a judging panel since a similar amv was in amvhell 6.66 to be honest that's what p**sed me of the most a bit this amv was the fact that it made it in the main series of amv hell.

I admit In hindsight the stuff I submitted isn't funny, nor is it good but neither is a girl pooping into a toilet.

But when all was said and done, I voted 5 because I laughed so ****ing hard because when I saw that scene I KNEW what was going to happen like one of those great ongoing repeat jokes.

Nice try, Fluffy. The gameboy color was the first gameboy to run on 2 AA batteries. The original gameboy ran on 4 AA's, and the gameboy pocket after it ran on 2 AAA's.

There was also an AC adaptor port to plug into the mains for us poor kids! WOE IS ME!

I don't know about you guys, but Mattroks has technically been one of the better highlights of 2013 for me. Better than "Wrecking Ball", at least...

Anyway, a couple of decent clips here and there, but far too many repetitions and obnoxious pop "songs" to make this episode particularly worthwhile...

Kids these days should have their PS4's and Vitas and XBOne's taken away and given Gameboys (without colour and needing 2 AA batteries) the next time they b*tch about their Calls & Duties not being in 1080 resolution :P

Ummm the old Gameboys need like 4 batteries.

Wireless Rockband Instruments take 3 batteries.
Now there's something new we can all rally around, amirite?

Rechargable batteries mean it'll never be the same as when we killed a pile of batteries, then tried to find ones that still had juice in them.

I don't remember having the old black-and-white Gameboy. My first was the Gameboy Color. I remember it well....mostly because of how often it "magically" disappeared and then "magically" reappeared in the exact same spot where I left it last (and where I've already looked 1,000,000x for it), also with my Pokemon save file now further into the game after "playing itself". This was also when my sister started getting into gaming. She has yet to convince me that it's "just a coincidence".

Oh, how simple was the life of a child whose only video gaming device he ever owned, and still owns, was the original Xbox (well, if you exclude the personal computer).

That said, I do remember a few folks who had the Game Boy. It was neat stuff, though I didn't get to play with one often since most people owned non-portable game consoles.

A little bit of off topic discussion is sometimes healthy, as long as it doesn't degenerate into full-on ****posting.

Also, I actually still have my original Game Boy, though the screen is messed up and it's impossible to play anything on it.

I really don't think many of these have the comedy factor with them. I really enjoyed five (That episode stopped my breathing from laughter at the end when she nonchalantly takes a desk from the destruction and raises her hand for being present). 10 was comedic. I really wonder which one will be chosen.

I would agree- but history has shown that if there’s even a whiff of a tangent in any of these threads, it gets jumped on like a trampoline.

I like to think that if everyone here was maybe a little more focused and constructive with their posts, the community might do a little better with their contributions for the next challenge…

I’m a dreamer, I know.

And yeah, I know it’s ironic that I started the damned Gameboy tangent in the first place.
I’ll try doing everyone a favour now and will shut up for a short while. A long while if we’re lucky.

My at home console was an Atari 2600 (and I still have it, AND it still works. **** you xbox 360 with your red ring of death). I also played me the **** out of some Mathblaster on my old DOS 386. I had an 8086 too, but not much software for it.

This is my first console.

http://www.stclarke.com/flatpress/fp-content/images/btone-master01.jpg* edited out the forked up image...Mattroks has screen shotted my fudge up for posterity.

I am 25 and I played alot of "Tennis" "football" "squash"i on my Binatone tv Master as child.

Even video footage from that same console.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfVZ9YtzuiE

I went to a videogame exhibit at a local museum. With a group of folks from an anime club a few years ago. I rattled off the entire exhibit like I was the tour guide...no one paid attention cos...they all got stuck playing it!

Which was my own doing. Cos no one around could get it to work untill I taught them how to run it...then what confused them was when I asked "do you want big paddles or smalls paddles? Fast or slow? Big ball or small ball? want an angle to your paddle?...."

As you see maybe things to press.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e1r7stqyiAA/TzAzGjoPrHI/AAAAAAAAEhI/9Ie-q5sNFjg/s1600/binatone.jpg

Everyone looked at me and ask what age I was. Since it came out in the 70's...I said "23...I had one when I was 3...also a commodore 64 that would just spit out "tape load error"....and played a ZX spectrum at my friends house.... I was only 5."

I got more confused looks.

Got a Sega master system when I was 4, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis when I was 6, Snes when I was 7, PS1 when I was 8, Gameboy when I was 10. So yeah the 90s was packed with consoles for me and I was a poor family! We just got hooked on games.

I also got a game gear. I played Gauntlet for the Game gear having played the Master System version alot. Aswell as Predator 2 on it.

However it was the batteries that stopped me from playing it much as I took it on a in total 4 hour journey and it died 2 hours in, since it was cheap batteries.

Oh y'all reminded me of this:
http://www.cedmagic.com/history/rca-studio2.jpg

RCA Studio II. It had 5 or 6 games built in and then took cartridges as well.
My brother got it for Christmas in 1977. It was a decent and (for the time) very playable console.

My first ever console was a SNES. I even bought it with my own money (where I got said money, I have no idea. Probably either from Christmas or my birthday). I remember how me and my sister always wanted to be the first to play it. Every day when we got off the school bus, one of us would immediately say to the other one "beforeyousayanythingi'mplayingnintendo!" Good times....
