I think Toradora was probably my biggest sobfest. But that just because I was so sad for Minori. I don't think I've cried that much even with all other shows combined. Not a good moment for a dude like myself. And Five Centimeter Per Second was pretty sad too I think.

Well, I didn't cry (but I did feel sad).
I've never really cried (maybe it's just the Asperger's Syndrome I was diagnosed with), but there were 2 (possibly more) moments in anime that nearly made me cry.
1. Lucky Star moment in...I think episode 23, where the soul of Kanata (Konata's mother) revisited her house. The scene nearly made me cry, if they hadn't put in that camera gag at the end.
2. Ending of Abenobashi Episode 7. I didn't cry...but deep down inside, I did.
I'm gonna see if Clannad + After Story can make me cry. I don't really like to cry, but still...I'm curious to see the plot.

Alright, Clannad After Story pretty much put me in tears, But Air's ending actually depressed me. At Least Clannad had a happy ending. Also, there was a point in Koi Kaze that gave me a lump in my throat. Toradora too. Bokurano and Shadow Star had moderatly sad endings. But by far the most tear-jearkingly sad thing ever is Grave of the Fireflies. Owned.

I'd rather anime end. If you let something keep going, you're inevitably going to run out of ideas. It's sad to let the series go, but it's all for the best.
If I were to recommend two animes to someone that does not watch anime, It would be Akira and Grave of the Fireflies.

Never, though one part that always baffles me that people find sad is SPOILERS
When Asuna died near the ending of Negima! It's not like she was a well developed character, or like it easy to relate to her. And with the horrid animation and writing up to then you really knew that they wouldn't end with the depressive reality that once some one dies there gone for good (you know good writing ). (Shaft remake, Negima!?, also didn't really do a good job of developing Asuna's character, but I found there version it was just easier to relate to Asuna in that version, I'd also like to add in that Shaft fixed a lot of issues with the original (anime) Making a series that while isn't perfect, but is still a lot of fun).

I just finished watching Clannad After Story! All I can say is holy sh*t! During the first half of the show I was wondering why everyone thought the show was so sad. It was just like the original show. But then Nagisa died and my mind was blown. And then, as if it couldn't get any worse, Ushio dies! But it was funny how they just ended up saying, "No wait, that wasn't what happened." And then just shot back 5 years with the happy ending. Although I can understand why because if I was Tomoya after that, I would have just grabbed a gun and blown my brains out. Seriously, how could you even go on living after that all those horrible things?!
But on a happier note, I loved his daughter. If I ever have a kid I want her to be like that.

That's almost exactly how I felt half way through. Air was worse though. Imagine Clannad AS, but only at that point that everything goes so wrong and horrible and your depressed and your just looking for a happy ending... and it just stops. It leaves you a little hollow inside :(

the death of doomsday in superman vs doomsday.
Superman vs. Doomsday was very irrelevant to the comics that involved Doomsday. In the comics, Doomsday had an accelerated adaptation process and accelerated healing. The accelerated healing can bring him back to life. The Death of Superman is the closest comic, in relevance, to the movie, but that isn't saying much. In the comic, he killed Superman, but was killed in the process. His body was attached to a boulder and launched into space. While on the boulder, Doomsday's accelerated healing activates and revives him. Doomsday is just a "He won't die, even if we killed him" character.

Wolf's Rain. But not until the antepenultimate episode. I broke down crying when Toboe died.
Parts of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time".
One (just one) very moving scene in Metropolis made me bawl. I have mixed opinions about that movie, but this one scene hit the emotions just right.
Cowboy Bebop's antepenultimate episode, where Ed and Ein (one of my favorite pairs) leave and Spike and Jet sit and eat eggs until the credits roll. It sounds strange, but with the way it's edited (along with the choice of music) its a very moving scene.

Toss up between Welcome to the NHK or Legend of Galactic Heroes.
Legend of Galactic Heroes.....man so much stuff happens and the characters are so well written.
Welcome to the NHK as it mirrored my life so much down to even the same events happening! I too have been sucked into a marketing door to door sales pyramid scheme/scam and I was only smart enough to put it together when I was being groomed to join them, I got the **** out!
If if wasn't for NHK this year would be the same as the last three, instead I am training in stuff to get a job, I start a hospitality course monday which if things go well I should have a food hygiene certificate and a lot more knowledge, followed with the prospect of carrying onto more dedicated courses that once complete should open the world of jobs for me.

I broke down like a bitch, all pretense of being stone-faced or cool about it gone. Like an abusive spouse, Miura caused me to break down in tears and made me crawl back like the bitch I am.
No anime/mango series before, no anime/mango series after had made me get that invested and get so utterly destroyed emotionally. This was true tragedy in all its symbolic, poetic and downright Shakespearean glory.
Every other quote 'sad' anime I have seen since was just 'emotionally manipulative garbage'. Clannad, Angel Beats, Anything by SHAFT, and even anime I have actually liked like Fate/Zero has not managed to live up to the bar Miura has set.
What a Magnificent bastard.
Digimon Tamers also worked, but remember, I was eight years old. So I don't think that counts.

Not an anime, but Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa's final. Everything clicks before Kageaki makes his decision, thus making it even more heart-breaking as you helplessly watch him.
In a final battle against his daughter, Kageaki realized that even if he had the chance to land the killing blow, he could never bring himself to kill his daughter. Even if he could kill her, by the Law of Muramasa (If you kill someone out of spite, you must kill someone you hold dear), he would have to kill Muramasa, which is another thing he couldn't bring himself to do. In the end, he, filled with all the self-loathing that his journey has forged, drives his sword into his own gut, effectively killing himself, the one he despises the most. As the curse decrees, Kageaki's corpse, animated for one final blow, charges for the one he loved the most, his own daughter, and lands the killing blow.Kageaki doesn't die, however. Muramasa speculates that, with the last of her power, his daughter had revived him. This further depresses Kageaki. To abridge the epilogue, Kageaki and Muramasa are unable to live peacefully and accept their lives as mercenaries, becoming contracted killers with the life of their client being their pay. Kageaki, who had fiercely sought death as his punishment, has found the punishment he had been looking for: unable to live a peaceful life or die a gruesome death, Kageaki must live the remainder of his days abiding by the curse.

Some people chase it like some sort of high, the same thing with horror fans. They want that hit of the same thing and know it is all about manipulation because they want to be manipulated.
I do not want to feel fear, I do not want to be scared, I do not want to cry. So I do not seek these out and when a story crafts something that elicits such a response then it is due to the way it was done, not because it was done.
The one thing I run headlong into and want just as bad as people want a "weepy" or a horror scare. Is a laugh, comedies I will run into good or bad (Ignore anime comedies that the punchline is just fanservice......that not a joke!)

Never cried, but there were times, I got choked up. Summer Wars, Clannad After Story (I swear it was the piano music) and even the final scene of Angel Beats! Can't think of others right now.

i did think it was sad the first time when Faye tried to tell Spike she loved him and he still left. and a lame one is when Wolfwood died and Milly cried.

For me it would be Wolf's Rain (pretty much everyone you know and love dies at the end, which broke me) especially since it was one of my first animes and I wasn't prepared. Only thing which has come close would have to be Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin (manly tears) and Angel Beats (that one story with the pink haired girl who was paralyzed)

Already Listed:
- Angel Beats!
- Ano Hana
- Clannad + AS
- Summer Wars
Air doesn't make my list simply because the series is too short, they tried to stuff too much in, and I really
wasn't attached to the characters enough to care.
New Listings:
- Elfen Lied - Episode 10.5
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
- Bunny Drop

Hmm... Angel Beats! never made me cry. Was never able to get through Clannad and only ever read the manga for Elfen Lied. Never even heard of the other ones you mentioned.
Over all it's very difficult to make me cry since my emotions are very well disciplined... yeah disciplined... let's go with that... sounds better.

I can't think of any animes off the top of my head that triggered uncontrollable sobbing, but THIS, THIS ****ing scene right here, I always cry:

I always find it hard to cry, but I recently watched Darkside Blues (1994) and that produced a few tears from me.

I have seen a ton of "Sad" Animus in my day and none have made me cry... The Red Turtle, made me a little emotional only because I knew the ending was gonna happen about 20 minutes in, so I was like "Knew it!"
