All I can say is one emoticon...:praise:.
Gurren Lagann had one of the saddest anime endings I have ever seen. (Still didn't make me cry though. :p) It also had the awesomest final battle ever. Needless to say, TTGL will be one of the best animes ever.
Now, which anime shall the drills I call my eyes pierce next? Evangelion, Clannad, or Code Geass?

*SPOILER ALERT* So Nia's fading away wasn't the least bit sad to you?

not really. there are far sadder deaths then someone being safe and happy when they die. they knew it would happen and they made the most of the time they had so it isnt really sad at all

well i found the 2nd half of the show more or less pointless.. sure the final battle was cool... but the whole part with them being older to me was completely unneeded.... i maybe the only one but that's just how i felt while watching it
but out of the 3 other shows you mentioned, all 3 are good in their own ways, just depends what order you'd want to watch them in

definetly code geass next. eva is just depressing and/or infuriating if depressing shows piss you off. as for clannad... havent watched it, but doesnt appeal to me at all... so definetly go with code geass next.

Of course it was. Nia' was an okay character, but either way, she was just filling in Kamina's place.

Code Geass is a good anime to watch after Gurren Lagann IMO
I have to watch the TTGL movies now that I hear they have extra scenes. As for what to watch next, my order would be, Evangelion, Code Geass, Clannad. But that's just my opinion.

A week ago I was at a thing with Chris Vogler, he was talking about the power of story and how all the great stories of today and yesterday all have the same thing in common. The story canon that Gurren Laggen has is pretty much the Bible.
Kamina goes to save the world-Jesus comes to Earth to save it
He gets followers-Jesus' 12 disciples
He dies-Jesus Dies
Simon and the followers go off to save the world in his stead-Pretty much the entire book of acts
The Spiral King is defeated-The Roman empire converts
Viral and Simon Team up with everyone else to defeat the anti-spirals-The Kingdom of God is realized.

from what I understand, they're just retellings of the anime, so they didn't interest me (i assume the first movie is pre-7 year skip, the second is post) since I've already seen every episode.

both movies are re-hashes with a few differences....ugh what a waist... i seen too many ****ing series that the "movie" isn't really a movie but just a dumbed downing of the series in much shorter time......such as... Air, Shana, Clannad, can't remember if Kanon had a movie or not...Evangelion death and rebirth... with death being the rehash of the series with about a total of 10secs of "new footage" while rebirth being completely pointless to watch since its the entire first half of end of evengelion.. so watching those back to back was brutal...
I know there's others but i can't think of them at the moment
there are some when its something different Ranma, Inuyasha, Major, hell even Pokemon for that matter ... but when its just a shorter version of the series is pretty much pointless to watch them......even more so if you just watched the series then want to watch the movie....

well the Clannad movie also had a different story line that the show; he actually had more of a relationship with his dad in the movie

I totally agree, I prefer the kind of movie that adds to the series rather than retells the whole thing.

^agreed as well. I may or may not watch the Gurren Lagann movies. Depends on my mood and if I can actually find them. If I do watch the movies, I'll likely wait for the dub since I watched the series in English and am quite used to the English voices.

You could start to watch rebuild on it's own if you wanted. It holds up well on it's own and has the benefit of time, and better technology/budget. I'd suggest watching the tv directors cut, end of eva, then rebuild.

I never watched it. I just had to skip it... so stupid...
also, when I first watched it, it skipped from 7-9. So, a big spoiler was revealed in the episode recap. T_T

I didn't watch it either. Felt like a waste of time.
