You can, in a way, argue that Jem or Avatar are anime, you can't do so for Family Guy. Not to mention it just brought up muck for the YT filter to detect.

Tell that to the org.

A is for "Anime", as it always has been. Any alternative interpretations are just an excuse in an attempt to justify the fact that they're not using anime in their videos.
It works for the simple folk at YouTube, but it's not going to fly in here, especially not by me.

FYI, using Wikipedia as a source doesn't fly anymore. At least use one of the cited sources in the article instead.

Regarding the video, I had an idea using Ace Ventura as well, but I couldn't find a scene to go with it. Probably worked out for the best in that sense.

1 and 7 were pretty much the only ones that really did anything with the theme, though.

I give Avatar a pass for an anime for two reasons

1. Its style is modeled after FLCL
2. It's animated in Korea life every other anime

And #5 was just awful. Neither the audio or video had anything to do with time

Tell that to the Japanese. Who, by the way, coined the term in the first place. Anime = animation, PERIOD. It didn't become "Japanese animation" until western otakus got ahold of the term.

That being said, I still prefer to use the Otaku definition, simply out of convienence. Easier to say "anime" or "cartoon" as opposed to "Japanese animation" or "American animation".

But if using the other definition "doesn't fly" and is such a huge issue, Mil.....that just goes to show how much of a weeaboo you are.

IF we're going by that, then my clip for challenge 17 shouldn't have been accepted, seeing as is had no animation at all, see as my sources were a VN and a pic of me.

A time distortion themed AMV Hell Mini Challenge; none of these videos have audio from Back to the Future, Dr. Who, Hot Tub Time Machine, and no Time Warp Song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show was used.
I am disappoint.

It's always nice to know that no matter how original you try to make your video, someone will be disappointed that you didn't use an obvious, overdone, and uninteresting source material.

Also the animation in Avatar is way too fluid and stylistic to be even remotely considered anime, Family Guy is much closer to the standards set by major Japanese studios.

The term Anime Music Video does not encompass all types of animation, regardless of who coined the term anime first. Anime Music Video is, for the most part, a Western term since they're mostly made in the Western world, after all. Therefore, the Western definition of anime dictates its limitations, as it is common knowledge by now.

But if using the other definition "doesn't fly" and is such a huge issue, Mil.....that just goes to show how much of a weeaboo you are.

Does it, now? More like it just goes to prove you haven't been keeping your eyes open wide enough around these parts. Usage of Western-styled animation has generally been taboo throughout all iterations of AMV Hell and AMV Minis (with the obvious exceptions for the latter). Concessions have been made to allow other mediums such as Japanese-styled manga, Japanese visual novels, Japanese games, and similar for reasons that by now should be very evident . Keep up with the times, Dark.

But the challenges don't go by what I consider to be AMVs now, do they?
You had an "anime-styled" VN image and you added motion to it. Previous AMV Hells had their share of dynamic manga pages (done better than what you've done so far, but that's an issue for another day).

I love how you're telling me to "keep up with the times" when you yourself are wearing nostalgia googles. Yes, there wasn't much western-style animation in the past. Doesn't mean jack**** for the present. Things change over time. And guess who decides what goes in and what doesn't in the first place? Here's a hint: not you.

Honestly, I'd prefer it myself if there wasn't western animation in Hell. Actually, if I were in charge I probably would've just cancelled this whole challenge. Only 9 submissions, and very few of them actually fit the theme. I don't think Zarx is actually rejecting ANYTHING for ANY reason with these challenges. He just seems to give us a theme, but then not actually care at all what we submit. I understand I don't see the whole picture (don't have access to anyone's submission forms but my own...and I've only submitted 2 or 3 times), but that's the impression I'm getting from what I do see in the final product.

Unfortunately, neither of us are in charge, so all I can do is just NOT vote for any of these **** clips and NOT watch the winners video at the end of all this. I've already seen all the winning clips anyway....and I can already tell the winners video will be ****. Oh well. At least the youtube toddlers will be entertained.

I'm not sure the fox is that much worse than this. Several of the clips for the fox wouldn't have been so bad if they weren't all mashed together at once. Most of the clips here I'm pretty sure would be crap no matter where they'd go. Taken on the whole the fox is still more painful to watch, but taken on an individual basis, I believe this fails harder.

Alright, let's get this over with.

1. Works well.

2. An indication, and that's it. Perhaps the religious nutjobs might be more interested in your audio findings. They've been at it for decades, now.

3. A really cute AMV. Yes, I saw the clock. Time moves forward, from the looks of it, though I don't seem to follow on the overall intent of the video.

4. Trippy, but there's little going for this clip.

5. U-huh, I get it. Anything funny? No?

6. The underlying concept is really good. But, of course, the execution had to be crap. Funny how things turn out sometimes.

7. I'm sort of conflicted with this one. It's so-so, I suppose.

8. No, you see, the challenge was to distort or manipulate the time of the video, not make me want time to go faster so I could just be done watching your clip.

9. When you stick up audio and video together that fit well, there's going to be some sort of synergy in the overall clip. There is none on this one, it looks more like the video is trying to catch up on the incoherence that is the audio. Yes, I have seen a more than decent share of YouTube Poop, this clip's audio source included. Not to mention, we just got off from watching the Art challenge.

Overall, a piss poor round. The only good news out of this one is that Zarx isn't censoring "dick" anymore. So, you know what that means:

https://38.media.tumblr.com/3f963d1966b669bfbcc856ba613e37fd/tumblr_nd034hvvaG1rtl8hpo1_500.jpg

Vote? Hmm... 1, I guess, though I might abstain if this keeps getting worse. Chances are that the gaming round is going to be better, if only a tad.

02 – Pokénon – Doesn’t work. Just doesn’t work.

03 – Hamster abuse! – Can’t see the joke in this one. What purpose does the clock even serve?

04 – Unlucky – Point (2).

05 – “A” is for unorthodox – Point (1); Hell3 and Minis S2E1. The lack of any kind of effort here is insulting.

06 – Negative – Poor execution.

NOOO!!!. Oh No - Sound Clip

…what?

07 – Yay, Mick Foley – The lip-syncing at the start could have done with another pass or just been cut out for brevity’s sake (the clip does feel like it goes on for a little too long as it is). A couple of quick cuts at 2:48 were a bit jumpy and the abrupt ending slightly spoils the punchline with the transition frame coming in so soon.

Nitpicks aside- this entry had some decent editing, nice synergy and easily the best idea of the challenge.
