Reading through the The Future of AMV Hell (http://www.amvhell.com/showthread.php?29111-The-Future-of-AMV-Hell), it's obvious many of us weren't ready for things to end.
Zarx may be retiring, but the community with all it's editors doesn't have to. AMV Hellspawn aims to be a new nexus point for us all.
I'm looking forward to seeing who all will be a part of the first episode of many.

No. AMV Hellspawn is a spin-off series with the aim of being a new nexus point for editors.

I'm new to making AMVs, can I still submit a video?
Yes. AMV Hellspawn is open to editors of all skill levels.
If your video is good, it'll be accepted. If it's not so good, then at the very least we'll give you some advice to improve on in your future entries.

Just to throw this out there, I totally mentioned the idea of calling the project amvhell (insert name here) on the amvhell 8 thread several times.
So I'm just curious as to why the idea wasn't adopted then?

"Hell" and "Hellspawn" aren't quite the same. They're damn similar, but not the same. There wasn't any change of heart. Law also mentioned the reasoning behind the name in the first post.

As for why you're idea wasn't adopted....probably because Hell (insert name here) actually is pretty much the same thing. Still slightly different, but probably way too close for comfort.

We’re toying around with transition screens at the moment. The whole- HDTV frame with static- thing is outdated… but it works, and it’s something we might continue in Hellspawn.

Is there a more original/interesting idea for a clip transition anyone can suggest?

Just as an idea, if you're looking for something more modern, you drop the static and make last frame of the clip that just played freeze and zoom out like it's showing a selectable menu option, then roll over to first frame of the next clip displayed similarly, which then zooms in and starts playing. While it flips between the two, you could do some sort of generic selection tone. If you want to keep it tied a bit closer to the original for the nostalgia factor, you could frame the whole thing with the outline of a more modern TV screen; most modern TV's are flat screens and don't have much of a frame to speak of anyway. If the description isn't clear, let me know and I'll try to find time to whip up some sort of a mock up.

Again, just a thought since it sounds like you're looking for something newer. Personally, I never really thought much of changing away from the static. It's simple, functional, and short and subtle enough to not be obtrusive.

hell 1 and 2 [i think] had different type of transitions, might try something else then static.

What if you did something like fast forwarding through a VHS tape
as a transition. I think that might be something a bit more
fluid than the standard clip-fuzz-clip approach.

Hell and Challenge content restrictions were about the same from what I recall. This will be similar.
There'll be opportunities for ideas of the more nsfw sort eventually though. We'll have the full details ready when we open for submissions.

There won't be any deadlines, because we'll simply release episodes once we get enough acceptable content. But just to give a time frame, I'd like to have the first episode ready in 6 weeks time. I'll give updates as we get more acceptable videos so those who want to can still make it into the first episode.

6. Can I submit content which has appeared in other compilations, or which have otherwise been publicly available?
As long as it hasn't appeared in an already popular compilation, or otherwise reached a significant point in popularity, then it's fine.
I realize some of this content may not be fresh to a small number of people, but for the majority, it will be fresh.
With that said though, we'll be making sure that it doesn't dominate any given episode.

Just a small update.

We've received a good number of submissions from both experienced members that frequent here, as well as completely new users.
We could still use some more good contributions though. Especially from some of the more experienced members here. Anything is appreciated.

There's currently a number of submission in limbo, reason being that unfortunately I haven't been able to contact Inferno for a little over a month, which is a problem.
To remedy this, MADEVIL will be helping out and acting as the third judge for all Episode 1 entries.

That's about it. Hope to see more of you on the other side.

Another update.

We've received around 1/3 of acceptable content that we need for a first episode. We had been receiving submissions fairly frequently, but things have slowed down recently.
If you're still considering making something for our first episode, please do. Thanks to everyone's who's contributed so far as well, hopefully we can fill up the rest of the episode soon enough.
