well, umm another thread to discuss
here we'll going to talk about our first time watching anime or manga.
since i was a child i watch anime (3 or 4 years)
i remember that i used to watch Captain Tsubasa.
when i was between 7, 10 years it was the "Golden Era", i wanna mean when everything on the TV was anime like InuYasha, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Yu Yu hakusho etc... (Toonami) (and FOX KIDS, and a channel called "Chilevision")
but the parents won, and toonami was cancelled cos the violence Fox Kids was bought by disney, and the program called "Invasion" on Chilevesion was replaced...
when i was 11 years old, my brother decided to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion online, and i said "mmm ok, im going to watch it with you"(my first time watching anime online). i was really angry when i was 11 years old, cos the anime on cartoon network was moved to 1 am, but Dragon Ball and Love Hina always won the fight, and i fell asleep so many times on the college...
but then... (I HATE YOU WILLIAM WILLETT) yes, anime moved to 2 am cos summertime... damn.
i stopped watching anime, but one day i was with a classmate doing a homework and he said: "search on youtube (early days of youtube!) "AMV a la chilena" (chilean version of AMV hell)" and Suzumiya Haruhi and others famous animes were there...
so i said to myself... I MUST WATCH ANIME ONLINE!
and i watched Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan...
suddenly... ANIME ANIME ANIME ANIME ANIME ANIME ANIME ANIME etc
xD !!
everybody say that the manga its better, but i dont read manga, and the only manga that ive read is To Love ru!

Well, teh first time I picked up a manga was about 7th grade and mah friend let me borrow volume 1 of Negima.
I've watched anime for most of my life, even before I knew it as anime. Back then, it was just teh stuff that aired on toonami though, when I first actually new what anime was, I was just watching teh [Adult Swim] stuff up until my sophomore year of highschool, which is where I say it all began. The first series I ever watched in its entirety was SHUFFLE! I eventually drifted away from television anime in its entirety as I realized how lame it was compared to teh stuff you won't see on American TV...and that was a little long-winded, sorry.

my first anime would technically be pokemon when it first came out. Though, Naruto was the anime that got me into anime (and coincidentally, it premered on CN on my 15th birthday ^^ )
my first manga was Azumanga Daioh, which i read when i was in 9th grade. That was also my first, and really only, 4-panel manga I have read. The first regular manga I read was Love Hina.

I generally don't watch tv, and when I do, its Discovery, History, or SciFi (I refuse to call it Syfy).

First off, I'm kinda with you, shib. I do keep up with my TV shows (I dunno why, they all went down the crapper D: ), but I can't remember the last time I watched TV on TV, I usually torrent things or watch them on Hulu or Netflix or something.
My first real experience with anime was pokemon. I remember watching it at six years old, because I liked how they had six pokeballs and that was how old I was! :D
*ahem* anyway, I didn't really get completely invested in a single series until Digimon. Way better IMO, and I had to see every episode every week!
From there, I just kinda passively watched anime. Every once in a while i'd watch a saga or two of DBZ or some episodes of Inuyasha or something (I also saw my first miyazaki film: TOTORO!), nothing too serious. I think I saw Case Closed, Love Hina, and Chobits in this period as well. I was WAAYYY too young for Chobits, so when my parents discovered me watching it..... >.>
But a few years ago I came across this huge dance craze which was (apparently) taking the otaku world by storm: the Hare Hare Yukai. So I decided to check out this series, and lo and behold, it was the GREATEST THING EVER.
So from then on I decided to be hardcore otaku, checking recent releases and dedicating 90% of my time to catch up on classics such as Azumanga, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop.
That's my history.
*yaaay*
EDIT: oh, yeah, as far as my manga history goes, one day I was liek "oh, lol, wut's death note?" so I read it. Then I figured out there was an anime and was liek "oh, wutev'z lol."
THRILLING.

That's kind of freaky. My experience with anime and manga is pretty much the exact same as that and Hosokawa with Azumanga Daioh xD
Pokemon was also the first thing that got me into drawing manga-style. Then I dropped it for a while, and then Digimon came along. Then it started again xD

The first anime I saw was Sailor Moon, I think it was on Saturday or Sunday morning. I never really had cartoon network so when we did get it DBZ was already wrapping up and Naruto was just starting up so I watched Naruto. Later thanks to the internet I began watching series like Lucky Star and the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I always watched the local channels' anime like Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, Sonic X, and Digimon as kid.

Ha, this is a hard one. Well, technically the first anime I had ever watched was Speed Racer, but I didn't actively think of it as anime. The first time I watched an anime and have it register in my mind as anime was Orphen, and that was when I was in high school and I joined an anime club.

I saw an episode of InuYasha when I was young & my face was buried in the
TV. However, I consider my first anime (that I didn't watch on TV) to be Rosario + Vampire. Ever since then, my inner otaku started growing into what it is today.

My childhood was largely devoid of anime, except for a little something called Serendipity on VHS, which I watched when I was about 8 or 9. Never watched Sailor Moon or Speed Racer or Pok?mon or anything like that back then. Things started picking up in high school, though, with Studio Ghibli films.
As for first mangas, I immersed myself in Death Note a couple years ago at Barnes and Noble because I was too cheap at the time to get a DVD rental queue. Yay for free entertainment!

You know, I'd completely forgotten about half the stuff I'd started out watching until I read some of your guys' stuff.
I had multiple encounters with anime over the years. Five to be exact, all happening at different times and having nothing to do with each other. First off, I've never (and still don't) had cable. Thus, pretty much the only thing I ever saw on TV was Digimon. My oldest sister and I were really into Digimon for a while. Also, my sisters, my dad, and I used to get up on Saturday mornings to make fun of Sailor Moon. We were little kids and we still knew that show was ****! Then there was a little bit of Shaman King and One Piece that they used to play on the Fox Box. (I can't believe it's been so many years and One Piece hasn't added that many episodes since then!) Another was my one friend and I always slept over at our other friend's house. All three of us used to stay up till 1 (a big deal at that age) and watch Case Closed.
But most of all, we used to rent a VHS version of Princess Mononoke from a local rental store a couple of times a year. I'd always loved that movie ever since I was a little kid. I still think it's probably the best anime I've ever seen. I love Miyazaki films.
But my dad started getting Netflix a year ago and that's when I started watching anime a bit more. Then during the spring this year in high school my one friend convinced me to go to this anime convention in Pittsburgh. After that I really got into anime and became what you'd call an Otaku. So I've only been this way for half a year now. Last year, I didn't really even know what anime was.

I do remember my sophmore year, when I still only watched dubbed anime, we had to watch spirited away for english class. I was very proud that I was one of the few that had seen it before, but that pride was shattered when the teacher said "Remember, it's from japan, so the voices won't match up with the lips."
I had never noticed it before. xD
I've probably told that story here before, but it cracks me up anyway.

Well I started watching Anime during Yr12 when a mate at school introduced me to it. At first I was liek, "Anime's for faggots" but one day I saw him and some of his other mates watching AMV Hell 4 over in the corner of the computer rooms and after deciding to take a look I found myself laughing alongside them.
Within a week I tentatively agreed to see the first episode of the Code Geass which he forced me into taking home and watching and I was like "Holy **** this stuff's freaking amazing!!!111!!!". And so it was. Since then I was hooked and spent more time waiting for each Monday morning when the latest subbed episode came out than actually paying attention to anything I was doing at school :P
During my enlightening I also watched the first half of Death Note in between weeks as it came highly recommended by another friend, but rapidly became bored once Code Geass finished. (Death Note is great, I just change topics quickly)
About 6 months later I decided to rewatch Code Geass but this time it wasn't enough and so I moved on to the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (which I had become interested in after seeing clips of it used in AMV Hells coincidently). It was Melancholy which really got me moving into the 'Anime world', and a certain Goddess had a LOT to do with it ;) So yeah, that's how I got into Anime.
EDIT: I don't consider shows such as Pokemon to be the beginning of my Anime life, hence I haven't included them.

First Anime that I knew was anime 'Vision of Escaflowne' on 4Kids, yes the horror the ****ing horror.
(I think my first ''anime that I thought was just a weird cartoon' was Salior Moon or Ronin Warriors.)
Rented it, they only had the Japanese VHS @ Hastings...weird right?
Anyways, watched the first VHS and started watching everything anime I could get my hands on.
This was back in the day when Hasting had hentai and anime mixed, so a few surprises awaited me.
O_o;
My first manga I'm not really sure about.
I think it was Berserk or whatever random stuff they had at the local used bookstore.
They used to have those comic books that were actually manga, cool stuff.

My family didn't get off Antenna TV (rabbit ears) Till I was in High School, then we got satellite. My first anime (when I knew it was Anime) was either Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi which was airing on TechTV at the time or Love Hina (a perverted story on how I came across that). Before then sometimes the TV would pick up random stations which would sometimes pickup WGN which played Pokemon for a while, and I watched DBZ sometimes at a cousins house. Channel 10 aired 1 episode of Evangelion and then never mentioned it again.

Well technically Transformers and Thundercats were my first, but those were kinda their own thing once they got state side. After that it was the old Saturday anime block on SciFi it was after cartoons but before MST3K. Project Ako was just so bat **** awesome that I was hooked after that.

Arguably it does, but 720p is laughably low-res, and even 1080p isn't that impressive. It does, however, make the picture (relatively) more clear.
It's pretty overrated, but not worthless.

There have been a lot of threads about this already... but anyways,
The first anime i saw was probably a hentai! :D
But apart from that i'd have to say my first (Non pornographic) anime was Grenadier. When i look back on it now it was pretty crappy but i enjoyed it.
After that i started watching Love Hina and i was really dissapointed with the ending, i read a bunch of threads on the internet about it and apparently the manga was much better and... that's what got me started on anime and manga basically. Well it was AMV Hell that developed my interest for it and i would like to thank it. (:

The first anime I watched was....*Shudders* DragonballZ. I didnt really like it that much, but it was on, thanks to to Toonami. I didnt really discern it as anime until later (and discerned it not my taste soon after). Im not really sure where it went from there.
My first manga I got really late because there wasnt many sources of manga where I was so I got Clamps "Tsubasa":Fell for manga and Clamp at the same time!

First anime I saw was Sailor Moon I think, because it was on the cartoon show in the morning.
I didn't really get what was going on though.
Like a lot of people the first one I really got into was Dragon Ball Z.
I liked Zoids New Century as well, I couldn't get into the other version.
I kinda didn't get back into anime until a couple of years back.
The first manga I read was Full Metal Alchemist, and which was when I got back into anime/manga
