I had an idea of recreating the first AMV Hell using the same audio/basic jokes but with modern 1080p BD anime sources.
I've been able to make about 6/16 of the skits so far with pretty good results. It's fairly easy since the jokes are already there, just gotta find a matching modern anime.
If anyone with a will to edit is able to help out please let me know. Or if you have an idea for a good modern anime (2010+ preferably) to fit with one of the skits available that would be helpful as well.

Taken: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 14, 16, 18
The rest I could still use ideas, editors, etc.
I'll get this done eventually either way, but it would be more fun and faster with some help.

Interesting stuff, Law. How pristine do you want to go with "modern 1080p BD anime sources" though? Not everything has a "studio made" 1080p remasterization, after all. (And some of those are even ****, to boot.)

What's important to me is that this project uses modern anime from non upscaled 1080p sources with no watermarks. I suppose it doesn't HAVE to be from a BD, but that it's from a non upscaled 1080p source. At this point though, I haven't had any problem finding BD releases to use as the source and keeping it 2010+ helps avoid older re-releases that upscale.

To avoid misunderstanding, this isn't a remaster 1:1 with better quality. It's being recreated with NEW anime, using the same audio/jokes. They should include the same audio portion used in the original, but skits may have a new unique twist to them, or be extended slightly forward or backward

Sounds nice, excited to see the results, sadly I have neither the skill nor the time necessary to contribute.

I'm a bit conflicted on the idea of messing with the vets old work like that. Tennis was one thing, but would be lying if i said i wasn't kinda apprehensive.

I'd say reusing a joke once every 15 years is ok. It's an idea I've wanted to do for while, but only decided to do once I opened up my editor and saw how easy things were coming together. I like the result so far. It's all in good fun.

Heh...Maybe i'd care more than they would at this point.

Using the audio of the old clips you mean? That is a good idea but if you put it that way then there will be 2 or 3 people will make the same video with the same audio clip. But I'm still down to this idea.

This is a recreation of the original amv hell, all audio will only be used once and clips will be in the same order as the original. If someone wants to use a certain audio, they need to claim the # they would like to recreate, asumming it hasn't been used yet.
Which is why I've listed the already taken parts in my original post.

Oh now I see what you are talking about. Sorry I'm kinda mentally retarded.
Imma take 7, 8, 16 and start small.

Nice. The one thing to keep in mind, is that the source material should be from a 2010+ anime @1080p (not upscaled & no watermarks).
If you need help finding source material that meets these requirements just PM me.

Well if you think about it. It's like reviving the veteran's work through this idea.

One of the cool things about MEPs that people never take into account is that they are essentially fandom timecapsules. They capture what were the popular shows/music of the times, the sense of humor, inside jokes and even atmosphere. You can watch AMV Hell 3 and feel the con culture of 2005. Anime is one of those fandoms that is horrible at documenting itself and introspecting, so I have always valued AMV Hell type of vids for being great fandom artifacts. And like a lot of artifacts, they sometimes need conservation or restoration.
For a couple years now I been contemplating the idea of remastering AMV Hell 3. I think at this point half of the sources have been release on BD and even DVD upscales with better compression would look better. But the scope of the project is what has held me back from it and to be honest, I would have to be a dick about it and limit who could contribute as I would want people that put a lot of value into getting quality. I am talking frame fidelity as the top priority, a 1:1 exact copy down to the last frame and audio beat. I am about to start learning DaVinci Resolve to move away from the premiere and the adobe workflow, so thinking of maybe forcing myself to edit one clip a week or something.
But I am super busy with other video projects so realistically I won't get far. It'd be nice if Zarxrax and SSGWNBTD could helm a similar project, maybe they can add the Imperial Walkers and Dewback lizards they always envisioned (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9aJckh-zyo), this website is dying so it would be a nice swan song.

Oh man am I glad I made an account now back when the minis were still going on as I've lurked for like 15 years now and I would have been screwed with the "registrations are closed thing".
(also I don't suppose it'd be possible to change my username to "NM64"? Nowadays I tend to use that instead...)
Anyway, one thing I had previously mentioned with the minis that would be great for any sort of re-creation of the original AMV Hell is volume balancing. With lots of different video and audio sources, you can end up with lots of different changing volume levels which can be...undesirable to say the least.
So an easy thing would be to simply "wavegain" or ideally "r128gain" the audio for each clip before combining them together and the like (note that "true" replay gain and/or r128gain only works via tags, so in our case you need to make sure it's actually applying to the waveform itself rather than just adding metadata) - an easy way to do this is to use foobar2000's replay gain scanner (actually based on r128gain) to apply tags to your source audio, export said audio to 32bit WAV PCM, and then use that for editing.
BTW, one kind of similar idea to your own that I semi-recently had after rediscovering my old AMV Hell Perfect Collection failed-burn DVDs were simple widescreen versions of said older AMV Hell videos - not any sort of stretching or upscaling or the like (well, a bit of upscaling for the native widescreen clips would be necessary), but rather just a basic re-encode into a more modern format of the original but with the necessary cropping and padding so that the actual video file when played on a modern 16:9 TV would never result in window-boxing (black bars on all 4 sides).
Of course, the one issue with this idea is that non-16:9 displays are becoming popular again (particularly 18:9 phones, 21:9 monitors, 3:2 laptops, and 4:3 tablets), so the only true solution would be a way to have a variable aspect ratio within a single video steam...which is not something I've ever heard of being a thing (I mean it might be a thing nowadays, but I've not looked into it - maybe I should try asking the Doom9 guys about it).
----------------------------------------------------------------
even DVD upscales with better compression would look better
I know that some DVD upscales can be...pretty crappy, so I don't suppose good ol' waifu2x be useful in such cases? All one would have to go is export the according video as an image sequence in order to then batch-convert them via waifu2x.
Alternatively sometimes just some sharpening filters are all that is needed if it's something like a high-quality Blu-ray source but the on-disc video itself is just a blurry upscale - I've demonstrated this in the past on Beast's Lair with the PS2 Fate/stay night OP videos on the "Type Moon Fes" Blu-ray:

Basically I think the Blu-ray has the best encoded quality with regards to banding, macro-blocking, and detail resolution; with some post-production like contrast and sharpness adjustments (because it has to be re-encoded anyway) it could be the best by far.
For example, if I apply an "Asharp" filter (set to default settings) in Avidemux and then set the contrast to "30" in XnView, you get similar colors to the currently-used version but with better visual fidelity (note that the image was resized to 1280px wide via Lanczos3 and cropped to 712 pixels high):
