Apparently this would ban Ecchi
What do you all think of this?

It wouldn't only ban ecchi. It would ban anything deemed "unfit" for the youth. This only affects Tokyo, which contains many animation companies.

Being an American, I'm extremely attached to the idea of freedom, so I don't like this one bit.
But even looking beyond that- what the hell is the point? What's so bad about sex? Shouldn't they ban violent images before pornographic ones?
I have SO many reasons why I think this is wrong, but I don't think I should go into too much detail. After all, I'd probably get on a tangent or something. :P

The bill has already passed, but as sells begin to decline and major companies that have been affected by said bill, such as Shonen Jump, and fans, such as the children the bill was for, begin to protest the bill, the bill will soon become a horrific, economic noose. Shonen Jump, which holds many popular anime and manga, has already confirmed that they will not be participating in the annual festival. Hopefully, this bill will just cause certain anime to go on an extended hiatus, but this bill could also cause many other cities to pass a similar bill.
EDIT: Xela, America's laws are bent and broken every day to ensure that our "freedoms" will cost a certain sum of cash. We have no rights, no freedoms, no moral codes. America and its current government are sexual predators, and they are raping everything our predecessors have risked their lives for.

Actually, it isn't just Shonen Jump that dropped out of TAF. The entirety of the Big 10 coalition has stated they will not be attending TAF. It actually may seem like TAF could possibly be cancelled.

From what I heard it just adds homosexuality to the list of "banned" things. Subjective bans like this tend to be put in place solely to please moral guardians, so they most likely won't do much to enforce it. Though personally, I wish something would be done to counteract the rampant fanservice in anime.

This may pass, however the manga/anime makers (if you read some news releases) are getting ready to not only ignore what it says, but actually push the limits even further.
Besides, how does this 'protect children' when the people passing this removed a clause that would make child pornography illegal.

Oh, I'm fully aware of this. I figured just saying "FREEDOM **** YEA" would sound stupid, so I decided to point out how stereotypical it was for an american to bitch about freedom.
But, yeah, you're right about it putting a huge dent in their economy, I just hope the politicians snap out of it and realize what kind of dent it'll inevitably make.

Oh god, not GAINAX, ANYTHING BUT GAINAX! The stuff they put in their anime is what makes them GAINAX animes! T_T
On a side note, I'm happy KyoAni isn't on the list. ^^

the only real potential problem that it holds against us americans, is if we wanna watch this kind of stuff subbed (which it probably wont ever be dubbed in this region).

Of course it isn't, they're centered in kyoto (hence the Kyoto in their name :P)
Apparently this bill did get passed (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-12-15/full-tokyo-assembly-passes-youth-ordinance-bill), though. ;_;

I hereby give up all anime and seclude myself to a cave somewhere in the Rockies. The end of days is now here.

C'mon now. We either fight to the death or wait 'til the end comes. And I am not going to be thrown down by some homophobic old man.
On a side note, doess anyone think this is similar to the PTV episode of Family Guy?

Amen man. Don't get me wrong, having attractive female characters is something I, as a male, do not object to. But A) Sometimes stuff is best left to the imagination, which is better than any drawing, and B) I do NOT want to be watching a show and from out of the blue get a pantyshot of a character that is supposed to be 15 and looks even younger. That's just creepy as hell. >.<

but, the ban is only in Tokyo, right?
Fortissimo

I've found that you can say "the ban is only in Tokyo" a thousand times but it will never register with people. Although admittedly Tokyo is the major producer of...well, just about everything Japanese that isn't edible, so its limited range is still pretty destructive.
