At first there will be an xvid and an x264 version. One will go on the org, one will go on bittorrent. Which should it be?

x264 op torrent!
way better quality, and since the torrent allows bigger files that's even better!

By the way the dvd follows later?

By the way, both files will probably be around the same filesize.

Yea, dvd version later.

Why not make the torrent bigger, it's shared easily?
And I thought animemusicvideos.org didn't accept anything bigger than 100mb? (edit they accept bigger for this kind of stuff).

You are doing x264 and xvid for compatibility?

Xvid good for a direct download, i didnt even know we'd have a direct download. FASTER WORLD DOMINATION! .......or maybe just faster access to AMV Hell 4

I'd prefer having the X264 version on bittorrent. It's the version I want and I always prefer torrenting large files.
Yay AMV Hell 4 will be here soon :D

x264 is smaller in filesize with the same quality if done correctly.

Basicly:
x264: small but cpu-intensive
xvid: larger but lighter impact on your pc.

The initial seeding with a x264-file (mkv, ogm, etc) will be much faster and you'll get seeders quicker.
Given the popularity of amv hell 4 I think that the .org will be quite hammered, so I recon that you'd better
Nevermind, the files are going to be about the same size?
What happened Zarxrax? Are you going for super high quality video?
I can fit a dvd (4+ gig) in 700 MB with the same quality and 5.1 audio...

I figure you can make the x264 about 3..4x as small so the seeding will go faster..
I think it's a bit overkill to make a large x264-file since it's not like you'll see any difference unless you have a monsterous resolution :P

x264 offers higher quality than Xvid if done correctly. I regularly use x264 for encodes now, but Xvid is still right up there with x264. x264 also generally takes up more processing power so that you can watch it...

This is just a hypothetical situation, but if you were to put up a copy of each on bittorrent, the majority would most likely download the Xvid version, simply because it causes less strain on their computers. Also, I've witnessed a ratio of 3:1 on Xvid/x264 when it comes to people downloading anime episodes, for most cases.

And because of that, I would probably vote Xvid. I myself would prefer to see the x264 version. But whichever is available will be just fine. :D

I'll be happy with either... all I care about is being at my computer the moment the torrent is uploaded so I can start leeching it all the sooner.

I'll get both. x264 for my 2.66GHz, 1.90GHz, and 1.40GHz computers. Xvid for my 350MHz, 400MHz, and 666MHz computers. (Big family of computer users)

H.264 on the Org. In the long run I think it better to host the higher-quality copy on Local (since unless it's just an exercise in peddling ridiculousness, at the same filesize an H.264 encode has far greater probability of actually being better quality than an XviD encode). Either way, the downloads are gonna get hammered, and in a way, if people default to XviD because they have crappier computers, then the burden for that would be better distributed over BitTorrent. And as a side effect, the Local copy will only get more and more support as time goes by and be as transparent as things are now, so any initial sluggishness on that front would eventually become seamless and disappear (especially when/if the BitTorrent seeding slows to a crawl).

In general I feel higher-quality encodes should be the ones on Local, unless filesize makes that totally unfeasible - but in the case of massive MEPs like this, filesize isn't so much a factor if it even matters at all.

In the end though I'll still be getting both - the XviD copy for actually watching on this ancient computer of mine, and the H.264 for archiving (typically my way around this is simply to get the H.264 and convert it to MPEG-2 since I slap them on [Video] DVDs anyway, but with Perfect Collection 2 coming that makes that a rather pointless task).

Wait, aren't you able to upload both formats to the org. And have 2 local download options?

I was originally leaning more towards putting the h264 on the org, but then I saw more people wanted the xvid on the org, and I got to thinking. Sure, the h264 is better quality, but also many people probably dont have fast enough computers to play it back properly. If it gets more downloads off the org, thats a lot of people potentially downloading a huge file that their pc cant handle....

In the end putting the x264 on the org will result in a longer download able higher quality since the torrent will die out some time eventually.

but putting the xvid on the org is better for people who want a simpel download and a codec that is not to harsh.

But why don't you put both on torrent and the org?

And people who like x.264 but do not wish to push .org for their bandwith limit and wish to support the sharing (like me) are better of using the x264 torrent.

A less strenuous version on the org. I'll probably torrent the x264 version because my PC can handle it. But, for my weaker computers, I'll just burn to DVD. Besides, my weaker computers are running out of HD space anyway, so it's not like I could store it on them in the first place.

As long as you have the appropriate decoders and splitters installed.
