OK, the rules are simple:

Just recommend an anime and put the reasons of why you are recommending it

The main objective of this game, is disclose animes that are uncommon, but if you want recommend something like Lucky*Star, there is no problem.

I'm gonna enjoy this thread.

Planetes is probably the anime I would recommend if someone wanted a science fiction based anime. Planetes is suprisingly realistic. Characters will suffer from known space illnesses such as brittle bones, decompression sickness, and even mental illness, and the space ships don't make noises because they are in space, which is something that is overlooked in many shows. It is obvious that the people who made this did their research on space and the history of space travel. If you are someone who prefers anime with good animation, this would be a good choice as well. The series, though short, has much more depth and thought put into it than other anime. I was suprised by this anime, and I believe it is a must watch for anyone who is into anime. I would also recommend this to someone who just wants to see a good show about space.

Kino no tabi the beautiful world

excellent design, moving story, interesting characters. what more do you need?

The story follows the travels of Kino, a young adventurer who rides a talking motorcycle named Hermes. They explore the people and cultures of different places throughout their adventures, spending only three days at each location.

I would recommend

"Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru"

The story starts with a childhood promise... Yori promised to make Iku his bride, but Iku is his twin sister, and now in highschool his feelings haven't changed. He gets a girlfriend to forget Iku, but... he still loving her.

If you like that type of romance that make you cry this is the perfect anime for you....

UNFORTUNATELY... is only an OVA
but there is a manga so you can read it... (but I haven't read it)

Slayers 1-5:
yes it's an older anime but the character development is just amazing and the English voice acting is great, all the voices stay the same except for one character and there is plenty of comic relief and seeing as how a lot of people on here don't like fan service there is only like 2 or 3 scenes but its not like it was done just for that purpose it follows the story.

Slayers is #2 on my all time favorite anime list and should be seen by all.
also dont forget the movies as they are all prequels

One of the anime I tend to recommend to people is Martian Successor Nadesico. It is a mecha/mecha parody series, following Akito, a young otaku/cook/mecha pilot, who manages to get on board the starship Nadesico to fulfill a childhood promise to his friend/love interest Yurika. The series has a great cast of characters, a lot of humor, and a descent story hidden under all of the silly bull****.

I think another one in my collection I should recommend is RahXephon, it's 26 episodes and one OVA. Personally this is one of the best serious mecha dramas out there, its not as confusing as evangelion and actually has some damn good twists and actually a few tear jerking scenes that got me crying....which isnt hard to do seeing as how strawberry panic made me steam up 13 times and I'm not afraid to admit that either.

RahXephon is defiantly on the top of the list of must watch animes

Look up any series or movie with Yoko Kano doing the soundtrack. You may not get the jazzy cowboy bebop sound but the music will be amazing.

One anime I'd recommend is FLCL, personally one of my favorite anime of all times.
Now, I know the entire series is a major mindf*ck, has symbolism thrown at you all the way and, as far as I know, it's a love or hate type of show. Still, I'd definitely recommend. Viewers beware though! The entire show looks like an episode of Looney Toones on Prozac, only with far more awesome robots and an even more pointless plot that you will probably have to re-watch various times before you can understand what happened in the last 25 minutes you watched, as the actual story is concentrated in only 3 or 4 out of the 6 episodes of the entire series...
But be not put down by such things! If you enjoy this weird, absurd and definitely non-mainstream style, you will be greatly rewarded with what may just be the most awesome series of all times...

/agree bro, FLCL is pretty awesome, and it has some American culture thrown it! Rage Against the Machine is mentioned, and the animation even goes into South Park style a bit!

I'd suggest Hellsing. It was like cowboy bebop with vampires, and it followed that old school anime rule where the Main Character was untouchable at all times. further more, the OVAs (Hellsing Ultimate) just made the series that much more bad ass. lol it's really hard to suggest a good anime, when so many good ones are main stream now, /hurray for us!

Already seen it. Not steam punk. But it is different i guess.

Also, I like how people suggest things like Hellsing and FLCL. Doesn't that seem sort of pointless? I'm pretty sure everyone already knows what they are. And if they haven't even heard of them then I think they need to watch their basic batch of anime before even looking at a suggestion thread.

I was kinda pissed when I saw all the fanservice they added, cuz the manga didnt have it and I do love the manga. but oh well, it was pretty great. the animation in the first 3 eps was nice, after that it kinda degraded. I was surprised with how well-done the dub was

I saw mention of it earlier, but definitely Infinite Ryvius. Probably one of the most underated animes I have seen. Its easily on my top 5.

I also want to recommend The Genesis of Aquarion (I think thats the official title) and Gad Guard. Both of em are fantastic Mech animes with the first one being made by the mastermind behind Escaflowne and Macross I do believe.

hehe, when have you ever heard of a zombie story that has a very compelling and deep plot?

I saw mention of it earlier, but definitely Infinite Ryvius. Probably one of the most underated animes I have seen. Its easily on my top 5.
And yes, Infinite Ryvius is a very nice choice. There is a gigantic amount of whining. And most of it is over completely insignificant things like, "There is no ketchup on my burger!" and they'll cry about it for ten minutes! Or they'll get in a screaming battle over the dumbest stuff. But once you get around that it's a good show. If you've ever seen Gundam Seed, it's exactly like that, except without all the big robots.

Ah, but you forget, it does have a few big robots itself. =P And I believe it is supposed to be realistic of most kids that age. No adults around and all the kids having to handle stuff on their own, of course there is going to be whining...about every little thing. Still, it all comes down to personal preference.
