One of the things that I noticed about AMV Hell 4 is that a lot of ideas were blatantly re-used for this by submitters, they just stuck some different music on there. Why did this get in AMV Hell 4?!?

Well, there's "She Drives Like Crazy," which I know I've seen in another AMV before, there were the "Hellsing" clips (among others), which seemed to feature the same church scene over, and over, and over again, the One Piece "Fantastic Four," which was hilarious, followed later by One Piece "Captain Planet," which induced some serious deja vu...the worst example was the Naruto "Girlfriend" sketch, that was pretty much the exact same clip as "Love Is A Battlefield," only a lot less funny and a lot more awkward.

The other problem was that the whole thing was just too lopsided towards a few programs - most of the clips were coming from either One Piece, Deathnote, Naruto, Dragonball Z, FMA, Azumanga Daioh (of course), or the Haruhi Suzumiya concert scene. All in all, though each series had its gem of a sketch, there were a lot of really unnecessary ones for them thrown in as well, and they seemed to crowd out the space for some much-needed variety.

I know for a fact that there was an AMV for Stephen Lynch's Special Olympics using the same episode in Azumanga... in fact it was remarkably similar... Either the creator is the same person and submitted a shortened version of his AMV or I have to believe this one is practically stolen

Yeah, I've been hearing the same from almost everyone who's seen 4. Where Azumanga Daioh was the most used anime in 3, 4 had Death Note, and it just...well...I don't like Death Note very much. And AMV Hell 4 didn't really help that. Most of us think there should be an AMV Hell 5 for the sole purpose of apologizing for 4.

Edit: I don't mean to blame anyone or anything. After all, there were a ton of submissions (OVER ONE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!), and it MUST be difficult to weed out the good from the bad with so many AMVs. Perhaps some deleted scenes would be quite sufficient.

This was the only one that I really noticed and thought, "Heeeyyyy, wait a second..."
But not because of AMV Hell 3. There's an AMV to Fruits Basket (I think it's called Furuba television) that came out ages ago that used the same pairing and almost the exact same scene placement.

Well, with regards to ideas that have been done in other amvs before, sorry, but we can't watch every single AMV that comes out, so there may obviously be a bit of overlap there.

As for songs that had been used in previous AMV Hells, there are only maybe 2 or 3 of those, and I only accepted them because I felt that they were executed completely differently than the prior video was.

As for the same clips being used from multiple anime, yea, it happens. It's not just AMV Hell though. Watch any AMV, and most of them probably use most of the same scenes. This is because the vast majority of any anime just consists of people sitting around talking, so when you cut out all the crap like that, you aren't left with a whole lot of scenes that are actually useful.

And yea, I admit there was too much death note. But hey, death note is awesome :)

Here are some clips that already existed on youtube:
Sasuke: CuppyCake: http://youtube.com/watch?v=unmXZ4KekUM
Lucky Note: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DWRCSFLvxw0
Pinky and the Brain-Death Note: http://youtube.com/watch?v=PfURoUpiH1Q
http://youtube.com/watch?v=SwoArgPHzKc

I don't mind it, because the AMV Hell 4 clips are much better in terms of animation and were one of my facourites.
What i didn't liked was that for some animes the same footage from 3 was reused, like Berserk, excel saga and haruhi or the one with the big boobs.
It's just not as striking as the first time when you see it. Just like the premise of the visual jokes at all. Like the 'Blue' segment. After hours of AMV Hell you have seen you just don't laugh your lungs out anymore, you are more like 'Oh they really are blue, yeah, funny'.
I don't think that the AMV's are not as good as in AMVH 3, it's just that the people have become used to it. And where 3 had some spoken comedy/commercial bits between and a quite more diverse kind of humor, 4 didn't and after a while the jokes all became the same.

I believe the overall wuality of the segements has improved, it just hadn't that much absolutely hilaroius bits and not that much of an impact than AMV Hell 3 had.

You also have to take into consideration, that right after AMV Hell 3 came out, youtube exploded, and so did the amount of AMV's accessable, so people wacthing Hell 4 had much more experience with AMV's than they had when 3 came out.
Just my 5 cents

I did the "she drives like crazy" clip and only realised *after* I had submitted it that someone else had done the same thing.

I thought it was my weakest submission, personally, and I never expected it to get in so I didn't think there was an issue.

Also, I noticed a few rules that were broken, like things that weren't exactly family friendly...(Eiken and Higurashi for the boobs/blood)...I had a really good Higurashi one that might have made it in if I knew that kind of stuff was allowed...And the reuse of songs...(Hide and seek?) Yeah, those were funny but still...Cowbell Hero was the best one in there...and how about you guys give a recommended movie maker? I couldn't get mine in because of compressed audio...and I don't even know how to fix that...

Hear, hear! I don't know what the fuss is about. AMV Hell for me has always been the great-granddaddy of AMV's. Even if I see a similar clip elsewhere, then on Hell, I just think, "Cool! It got into Hell!" Most AMV's are one-trick ponies anyway, artificially inflated to incorporate a whole song. AMV Hell solves that problem by allowing the pony to do its one trick, then get the hell out before it gets stale. You wouldn't pay very much to see a one-trick pony, but if someone made a circus out of 200+, you would get your money's worth. Sure, similar tricks are going to appear. 3 had a few things reused from 1 (not that 1 was long enough to have much to steal). For anyone who complains, I put forth this challenge: Make a 3hr AMV Hell using clips of < 5 min each, and don't reuse a single scene, song, or idea from any other AMV. When you do that, come back and complain. You can all work together if you want. Otherwise, just sit and wait for AMV Hell 0: II: AMV Hell 5: Armageddon.

Maybe its a good thing that this will be the last one because this is getting to the stage when its starting to go a bit downhill. Yeah theres a lot of hilarious and original ideas (like for example Austin Powers, Steve Irwins CRIKEY, oh and someone hid his username somewhere) but most of them are either not as original or just too random to be funny.

Oh another AMV Hell 0 sounds like a good Idea caus i really enjoyed AH0 the most. Maybe it should be something like: AMV hell X

A Burning requires 3rd party arbitration and judgment, self-declarations are moot. Besides, I actually liked the cowbell hero part, I'm just pointing out that it's been done well before. Why's everyone being so defensive?

To the point, random isn't always funny. There needs to be a sense of context. For instance, a godlike being trying to act human can lead to some great comedic situations. But something so far removed...let's say a bowling ball trying to be a refrigerator, isn't funny. That's bordering on dada-style thinking.

If I am not mistaken, I am a third AND fourth party. UNOwen is just that much. Yes, he is. And a bowling ball trying to be a refrigerator? I think I saw that sitcom on FOX already. i love to bitch! but honestly, i have watched hell 4 23 separate times now and it continued to get funnier up until the 16th-17th time, upon which i now just respect it whole heartedly. I got over the 1/14 ratio of DN clips, eventually. However, became more upset with amount of One Piece clips as my number of views increased... The reason for the inverse relationship??? I don?t know, i guess just chalk it up to personal preference, which no one can control because everyone has different opinions.

the most upsetting part for me, was the lack of "classics". Minus the Battle Athletes, Trigun, and Escaflowne clips, where were the gundams, ninja pizza cats, Mononoke, etc. (insert name of AWESOME old anime here)? Guess i just had a craving for nostalgia, but all in all, i believe the project was a total success, bar-none.

You can't please everyone all the time. And it seems all those people are on the boards.

AMV Hell is lucky enough to be amorphous, not really having shape, direction, or point. But, that's one of the qualities that makes it so great. People will bitch about anything and everything. But, we're all here, right? We loved it enough to continue to discuss the work, our likes, and our dislikes. The fact there is so much feedback on AMV Hell is not a sign that it should end. In fact, it is quite the contrary. People bitched about ALL the AMV Hells so far (Well, except for 0, but that's because either you liked it, or you are rocking slowly in a dark corner).

See, this is pretty much a prime example of what he means by "too random to be funny", it's just not. At all.

I'm going to agree that some of it wasn't the best that it could have been, but at this point there's not much to be done. 90% of the other submissions were probably not any better in terms of originality, so unfortunately, unless a second independent group decides to pick up AMV Hell and make a new one that's worthwhile, we're stuck with what we've got. But seriously, leave Gundam kid alone, he is just upset that his/her clip(s) didnt make it into the last AMV hell...EVER!...(kididng).

haha UNOwen, my clips were lamer than lame. But I thought they were hilarious, so i submitted. I appreciate the kudos, however. But i wasn't really sticking up for Gundam kid, i can just see his passion. And my shpeal is this (without getting on my soapbox to preach)...if you truly love something, and pursue it, no one should be able to criticize you for it. Ever. I watch anime and make AMV's because it makes me happy. In fact, there have been times i've spent BEER MONEY on anime...BEER money. Try explaining to your roommates that the money that was going to get you and a gaggle of girlies drunk was instead spent on Evangelion: Death and Rebirth... I?ll give you a hint, it doesn?t pan out well for you). Haha, but seriously, as fans we should never be scrutinized for following what makes up happy, because in the end the only person you have to answer to is yourself, and if you missed out on your passion because some ignorant SOB made fun of your geek-dom, you're out of luck and out of time. So Gundam kid, i applaud your tenacity, keep doing what you're doing, but seriously, if you diss hell 4 again in my presence i will (in terms that you will understand) have to go Trowa Barton on your ass...Heavyarms style.

If it was only Zarxrax, the complaints about scenes reused would have some ground, but remember this is a compilation. Many different people put this together. "Great minds think alike" I'm not sure why that would be relevant to AMV Hell editors, but I just felt like saying it.

Case in point: "Iron Man" with Al from FMA. I had that idea almost immediately and then dismissed it just as quickly, because I figured he'd have a million submissions for that.

And I found out belatedly that somebody else edited and put into an MEP "She Drives Like Crazy" with Azumanga Daioh.

Again, short clips with humour tend to lend themselves to similar ideas more than full-length amv's, methinks.

"Put 1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters for 1000 years and they'll rewrite the works of Shakespeare." Much more relevant quote to AMV Hell editors. ;D
When it comes to such a large project like AMV Hell, there is going to be overlapping. I wouldn't be too surprised if 80% of the thrown out clips were left out for being "too unoriginal." The only one who truly knows that right now is Z himself.

i like Gundam as much as the next guy, but i'm not "complaining". I just love me some old, grainy, CGI-less, cell drawn, kick ass and (did i mention old?) anime! i know it isnt that pretty to look at, but i'm a dinosaur (born in the 1980's) and i want some of the shows i grew up with in there. But low and behold, i didnt even think to make any clips using them so...i guess i should just blame myself.

But seriously, leave Gundam kid alone, he is just upset that his/her clip(s) didnt make it into the last AMV hell...EVER!...(kididng).

I loved the project, it was the perfect "end" to the series (even though"my chemical romance" (by definition) sucks, but i found myself actually SINGING ALONG with the credits) and im happy i was in it (even if just for a bit).

It's just my favorite series of all time and it's the only thing I had to work with besides GitS[that clip sucked, btw]. I'm not really upset about it. It's just that it's so big that one would think there would be clips in there. All three of my clips made it in AMV Salad, so I'm not mad at all.

With that being said, UNOwen, can i say that i am HELLA excited for Saw IV? Midnight showing anyone?

As a horror afficianado (And probably the only person to submit Gantz with the phonecall from the Ring to AMV Hell 4 like it was supposed to be funny somehow) I have to say....you're insane....and yeah I was there too XD

My Jiggy-Saw sense is tingling and, although I LOVE the Saw trilogy, jiggy sense says Saw IV doesn't hold too much promise. Unfortunalely, this board doesn't support *spoilers* so PM me if you want to hear my reasons (although, I don't think you do anyway. I sure wouldn't). Still, I will still be at the midnight showing. I can't help it. I won't try to resist. I might as well get it over with. I want it to be good, I really do. But, I'm not going to expect it to be. They just better have a good reason for making another movie, and not some half-assed story gap filler thing like, "Oh, the Jigsaw killer actually was an alien the whole time who had a clone!" On second thought, I better go expecting that story line.... :-\
