Im very mixed about this idea. I saw the Japanese live action Death Note movies, and they weren't really that good in my opinion. I mean, they weren't terrible, but they didn't come anywhere near the greatness of the anime/manga. So Im thinking that if the Japanese couldn't make a good live action version of their own material, then what chance do we have?

It's not impossible I guess, just not very probable that something truly great will come of this. Still, I just can't shake the feeling that a movie is the perfect form of media for a story like Death Note...so yeah, like I said, Im mixed.

well osaka i can see why you have mixed feelings about this but the japanese cant really act when we have great actors here in the U.S. like when i watched the Detroit Metal City live action movie it was good but not great because of the actor was horrible and wasnt getting the character right

I'm not really expecting much from this. This was tried with dragonball and really just screwed that up completely, who knows what else they'll be changing in this.

If they'er gonna screw it up as much as the did with dragonball, it'd be along the lines of:

"Hey guys, instead of writing down the names in a note book, why doesn't Light (who is now named Jerry McClark) have magical shoes that he has to tap together three times, think of the person's face, and say their name in order to kill them? Also, he can be a vampire who loves Misa and L is a werewolf who also loves Misa. But before we decide on that, let's go over the cast. So far we have Justin Beiber as Light (now Jerry), Edward Cullen for L, and Miley Sirus as Misa. Light's father can be played by Jay Leno and the rest of the police team can be Umpa Lumpas."

It is an American movie. If you want to show your parents the "greatness" of Death Note, then the movie is not an option.

No, that is not the issue. The movie is an American adaptation to a Japanese animation. If one were to check on the track record for said movies, he or she will notice a trend, they suck. If you want to convence your parents that Death Note is an origional piece of work, an amazing, well told story with a ground breaking cast, then the movie is something you don't want your parents to see.
