No, it is. It's just a show that J-Pop, heavy metal, rap, or even soft rock would not have suited suit well. I think Haibane Renmei may be the anime equivalent of a Nick Drake CD (if you've heard of him): it's a very quiet and philosophical show, and never boring (for me at least), but on top of everything, very, very, very humble.

I love the opening, but I can see why other people might not. I have strange tastes. :}

^^ Don't hype yourself too much. It's a very quiet show, in some ways, and overexciting yourself makes it hard tyo enjoy it.

Also, it's a growing kind of show. I wasn't entirely sure I liked it after the first episode, but the second hooked me. The patterns emerged, and this (coupled with my just getting used to style) started to make me think a lot. People say this show makes you think, and it does.

part of that? The writing is excellent 90 percent of the time, and this makes it a lot more believeable. I hate pretentiously written scripts, and I think that part of what drew me into this was how intelligent it seemed.

In any case, ignore what I said and watch the first few episodes spread over a few days. Even if you don't like it, you'll have to admit it's a rare artifact.

The only aspect that I noticed was that glockenspiels come into the mix after the bridge, and I have to say that I'm always happy to see that an artist remembers to include a bridge (or at least a contrasting part). But the fact that something like that is a plus just goes to show how crappy most music is.
