I just counted up the videos.
There are 18 death note videos in AMV Hell 4.
There are 254 total videos in AMV Hell 4.
Thus, death note makes up 1 out of every 14 videos in AMV Hell 4.
By contrast, AMV Hell 3 had 24 Azumanga Daioh videos, NOT COUNTING all the little "beep beep beep beep" bits.
There are 220 total videos in AMV Hell 3.
Thus, Azumanga Daioh makes up 1 out of every 9 videos in AMV Hell 3.
So quit bitching about there being too much death note, it's nowhere near as bad as the Azumanga in Hell 3.

I love Death Note, so their inclusions is great as far as I'm concerned. I thought most of the clips were awesome.

what people don't get is that, there is a reason why there is a splurge of new anime like death note and lucky star and etc, because when death note came out a year after amv hell 3 came out, we come up with a brainstorm of ideas for the next one, and with amv hell 4 being the LAST one, we all have to put our ideas somewhere or itll never come to fruition. some people should keep that in mind that its the last amv hell, so put in a death note joke while you can.
like i mentioned somewhere else, if only school days were finished in time before amv hell 4's dead line. but then again if zarxrax pulled off a jay-z and bring amv hell out of retirement (which i doubt that'll happen), we can expect the school days joke get runned to the "bloody" ground and we won't like where the jokes are "head"-ed to.

I noticed that about Azumanga being worse than Death Note, but I think the problem was that the Death Note clips didn't have as much of a massive variety to work with in the themes as the Azumanga ones did, which kept those seemingly fresh despite their number. Though when I rewatch the Death Note clips don't bug me as much on reviewing

The big difference being that most of the Azumanga clips in 3 were actually funny, which is what I recall AMV Hell being about. Out of those 18 death note videos, I'd say I gave a half-hearted chuckle to the Hot Topic clip, and the rest seemed like filler to me.

On the other hand, I didn't care for the Hot Topic clip, and loved the Timothy McSweeny one--thought it was very funny. I bet every one of those DN clips had its own particular fans. (I've never seen Death Note yet, but know the vague concept.)
What I keep hearing critics say is that "AMV Hell 4 was no good except for..." and most people different exceptions. In a way it's good that many people will find somehting to like in AMV Hell 4, in another way, it's sad that people are complaining so much because it wasn't all targetted at their particular sense of humor.

Actually... We are taking the two motion pictures (plus the previous, shorter hells), and splicing them together in one huge mega mix...,moving the clips around however to make it seem less DN and Azumanga full. File compression is a bitch to fit on one dvd...dont know if we can...but i think it will freshin up the series (considering since 4 has come out i have logged 23 views and hell 3 views are...too high to count.) Haha, but i will keep yall updated on my success with the project and if it truely does elevate the project in my own opinion.

Agree ! You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can make it so that people bitch or rave about different stuff. About 1/3 of the clips did nothing for me, but seemed to make other people laugh. There are very few things as subjective as humor.
Part of what makes the AMV Hell series compulsive viewing is that NOT all the clips are LOL-funny. It builds up a feeling of anticipation for the next clip.

Exactly. AMV Hell is about quantity, not so much quality. Out of 250+ clips, I doubt anyone was finding less than half funny. If you didn't think something was funny, all you had to do was wait 3 more seconds and they would try again. It's like a Gatling gun, If a bullet misses you, there is no need to worry. There are at least 74 more in the next 5 secs to give it another try. Accuracy be damned!

But for me, the fact that Death Note is so, well....deathly serious makes it absolutely hilarious when you screw with it. Azumanga is fun because you can use it with anything funny and it works. Death Note is MADE funny and it works.

My criticism about Death Note is not about who finds it funny, but rather the level of spoilers.
Two clips in particular are _very_ spoiler-filled, which is difficult because relatively few of my friends have seen DN all the way to the end, and it's hard for me to ask them to watch Hell 4 until they do.
If you want to complain about a show appearing to many times, why not mention "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". I don't mean the show in general, but that one scene where they're playing on stage: there must have been 3 or 4 variations of it!

You'd be surprised how many times you'll see a spoiler, and not realize it should be spoiling something until you get to that point anyway, especially when it's taken so far out of context. as in an AMV Hell. It's kind of like deja vu. It doesn't hit you that you've already seen it, until you've seen it again.
And to AMVP about Melancholy, I have this to say......
.......
......
.....um, actually, for once, I guess I don't have anything to say. It doesn't bother me, because I like the series, but I can see where you are coming from. It wasn't that the same scene was in there so many times, it was just used the same way multiple times. Still, having Haruhi rock out like Tenacious D nearly made me piss myself! "...and he said, *snort* 'Be you angels?' and we said, 'No. We are but men. ROCK!'" Well timed. If I could have left out any of them, it would have been the "Girls of Rock and Roll" skit. Apologies to the author of that one, but it just seemed too plain. I was just kind of like, "meh..."
...
...
...
...
...
...Oh, great! Now you guys have even got ME nit picky!
Actually, UNOwen, I have to agree with you on that. "The Girls of Rock and Roll" was rather erksome, but the rest were decent (my personal favorite was the version all sped up). The point I was trying to make was that it just seemed odd to see the exact same scene so many times. The other Suzumiya sketches (especially the one riffing on Rocky Horror) were great, and the show itself is pretty good too (I've only seen a few episodes).
Anyway, since this is a Death Note post, I might as well contribute on that front as well.
Concerning the argument that Azumanga Daioh appeared more often in Hell 3 than D.N. in Hell 4. Azumanga Daioh, which i was ignorent of prior to Hell 3, was fairly light plotwise, and few of the sketches delt with said plot points. The use of Death Note in Hell 4, on the other hand, was far more referential to its plot, and could therefore be more confusing to newcomers. I myself only learned of the series a few weeks ago, and was thusly able to enjoy the AMVs to their full extent.

Yes, Rocky Horror was very well executed. On a side note, in the "sped up" version of the concert scene, only the video was sped up. The music played in real-time (at least, what was released on the album). Dragonforce plays that fast in almost all their songs. I can't confirm that they are REALLY playing that fast for the whole song (considering their song average 7-8 minutes long), but it's still crazy!
I thought that guitar sounded familiar. If it was Dragon Force, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually were playing at that speed.

No, there were no concert scenes of any significance in "The end of the world as we know it", though you are right. The joke on THAT video was that this time the VIDEO was played mostly in real time, and the sound was sped up. For that, it is also an honorable mention in my book.

I have never seen Death Note, nor heard of it prior to AMV Hell 4 (By the way, rocks DO make a nice roof!). I still enjoyed what I saw, and found most of the Death Note clips amusing, at the very least. I'm sure I missed a few extra jokes in there, but that is the beauty of AMV Hell.
