Was wondering if anyone knew of a good video convertor as the one i normally use has decided not to convert a 2.2 gb mkv file.

I got 2:
a Tube Catcher (http://atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com/get-video-software-windows-home/content/banco-datos-Welcome-Home-Page.html)
It's primarily a download application but it has a very useful converter.
Total Video Converter (http://www.effectmatrix.com/total-video-converter/)
It's not free but it's one of the best.
Those are the two I use.

I use WinFF. It is very reliable, and pretty powerful if you know how to use it.

I use Freemake Video Converter. Its free (as the name states) and works pretty damn well.
Realplayer SP also has a pretty good converter I've found.

Looks like everybody is using different converters.
Media Coder (http://www.mediacoderhq.com/editions.html) converter works very well with mkv files for me. Is free and powerful.

Blaze media pro. It's OK. I mostly use it to rip CD's and tweak audio.
Incidentally, does anyone out there know of a feature that lets me reverse video? I mean, have it play backwards.
I need that. Weirdly, the stuff I got does not allow that. (reverse audio - no problem, for some odd reason.)

Speaking of mkv's, I also found a tool called MKVtoolnix, which has a compnent called mkvmerge which let's you extract different components of an mkv file (audio tracks, video, etc), or change the settings and re-encode it.

Handbrake. Easy to use, variety of formats, tons of options, or use the presets, and totally free. http://handbrake.fr/

MKVtoolnix is demuxer. Im using it myself for lossless conversions, but its capabilities for converting videos is quite limited.

That's how i get subtitles off the video. But I've been using File Format and AVS Video Converter 7. Both are very effective, but AVS is better for High Quality videos and it's good if you don't want to change the bitrate of videos and stuff. the only thing about AVS is that it cripples my system while converting, i can't do jack sh!t.
