Yes, it's in there.

Which one is it? What do you mean by that?

I believe it was the "I love New York City" one. I was surprised, too, because I was expecting something really horrible after reading comments from people who saw it at AWA.

Yeah, me too. I'm still really sensitive around the whole thing, but that actually made me laugh at its awfulness.

It was wrong but not completely tasteless.

Actually, during AMV Hell 4's "Previously" opener, there is a brief segment from a 9/11 video that appeared in AMV Hell 0, wherein a plane crashes into a skyscraper from Neon Genesis Evangelion. You just barely see it, but that also may have been what they were talking about.

i thought the 9/11 skit was pretty funny, anyway. And this raises a question; how long should people wait before they start looking at an event like 9/11 from a humorous angle? because that was around 6 years ago. people shouldn't be that sensative to it by now, should they?

When i first heard the skit from the AWA i expected it to be really offensive but it wasnt as bad as i thought, infact not as bad as the 9/11 skit in AMV hell 0 but thats what AMV Hell 0 is all about.

Hmmmmm, its also wierd that no one yet got offended about the Steve Irwin skit.......

Actually, the Steve Erwin video was one of the ones that shocked me the most. Refering to dongo#5's point, 9/11 was 6 years ago, so some people may feel comfortable joking about it. But Erwin's death was just this year (not to belittle 9/11) and could be considered in bad taste due to its proximity. In the end, it all comes down to personal opinion. With stuff like this, there's always bound to be a split between those who think it's funny and those who are offended. You can't expect it to be otherwise, and really, it's probably for the best that it isn't.

When is something like that magically turn from tasteless to humorous? Never. Either its funny and you laugh, its not funny and you don't laugh, or you get offended and prove you are a jackass. Proximity has nothing to do with it. Call me heartless if you will (I won't get offended), but that's the way it should be.

I don't think it's fair to classify everyone who gets offended as a jackass. If one of your friends/family/heroes died and other people were making jokes about it, I think you'd have a right to feel offended.

That's certainly true. I just wish more people could be open minded and accept that its ok to joke about things. Making a joke about something does not mean that you are degrading or insulting the thing being joked about. I've lost people close to me to cancer (who hasnt?), but I still enjoy a good cancer joke when I hear one. Humor can be a good release for people trying to deal with really bad situations, as opposed to just keeping everything bottled up inside you forever. I mean, hell, I loved Steve Irwin, he was freaking awesome! And 9/11 still saddens me when I really stop and think about it. Sometimes you just have to forget all the bad stuff though, and just LAUGH!

I know I posted this before, but it's a great example:

http://lolcrikey.ytmnd.com/

I finished that approximately 20 minutes after Irwin's death was announced. Read some of the comments. I'm STILL getting crap for it today. And it wasn't even as graphic as the AMVH4 clip.

Conversely, there's a 9/11 clip in the "Dedicated to Sailor Earth MEP" that I find HIGHLY disturbing. I don't find the one in AMVH4 disturbing at all. Funny, yes.

People are touchy about things. It's weird.

You misunderstand me. You have the right to feel something is not funny. In the situation you describe, obviously, you would not find the majority of the jokes humorous. You have the right to not laugh at something you don't feel is funny. However, you DON'T have the right to squelch on other people's humor if YOU don't think something is funny. Just move on. Goes back to the topic on censorship.

UNOwen, you are heartless.
(just kidding)

Actually, it's a good point you made about tasteless stuff always being tasteless. I can agree with that. So now, I'll just say this: the Steve Erwin video wasn't funny, so I didn't laugh.

And I found it funny, and I did. And groaned.

So I guess the bottom line is that tasteless is tasteless, no argument. But whether or not it's *funny* depends entirely on the individual.

Or, as Mel Brooks put it in one of my all-time favourite quotes:

"Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die." ;D

I love that line. I also love how these forums can get totally off topic after a while. Keeps things interesting.

We aren't quite on a tangent, yet. But, it is nice not to worry so much about Topic Nazis, for once. As long as we sashay back to the topic at hand every once in a while, we should be fine.

Yer, so that 9/11 thing, was it just ludicrously cut down, or was that it? Because I thought it was going to be uber-offensive.

I found the 'I Love New York City' clip hilariously funny, but that's mainly because of the way Andrew W.K. sings most of his songs. (Note: Sounds like 'Meat' from Super Freakin' Parody Rangers.)

However, I found the AMV Hell 0 9/11 clip far harsher than anything in AMV Hell 4--I suppose for good reason, it actually animated the towers being hit and falling, whilst playing alongside the audio from 9/11. Although you need to take into account that AMV Hell 0 is there to offend and shock, so meh.

And on the other hand, I found the Steve Erwin clip laugh-out-loud funny. Especially that last pause before the final 'croikey!'.

If you want 'offensive', watch AMV Hell 0's rendition of 9/11. AMV Hell 4's opening was simply a cut-off of that clip, whilst 'I Love New York City' was another, completely different joke.
