Hey, I finally watched Elfen Lied, and I must say, It was pretty damn good.
I have a few qs though... I know this may sound dumb bt does Ep14 take place AFTER 13... cause there were some discrepencies that I saw... Nyu/Lucy having both horns, the Chief still being alive...
I understand that if the horns were simply bone that they could grow back like any other bone, but I am uncirtain about the Chief surviving the blast... could possibly happen, but I don't know... it seemed like Nana expressed grief when Mayubrought it up so was he not really 'there' at the end or was he?
I think that Lucy/Nyu returned at the end, but what happened with the awkward filthy female professor and the director at the end when he says "The plan is just beginning"
does this mean there are going to be more episodes or is this it? does the manga cover further then this or is the series juts a compilation of the manga?
please help... terribly confused.. I may watch it again sometime over the fall break.. it was very enjoyable to watch. I reccomend it to all who have not seen it! ;D ;) :D

I'd enlighten you... if I remembered anything of the engenious ending to Elfen Lied that is =P
That anime confused me as well, but not with those issues.
I think you have to look at episode 14 as a stand alone episode, not very related to the rest of the series (unless I'm totally off when saying this, in that case: ignore this post =P).

well, I think it was somewhat related... Nana has to prostetics, and Bando has his, and hes still looking for Lucy...
The Chiife is still alive apparently, so I have no idea... I would say it happened aftr only because Nana was actually becomming more friendly with Nyu, whereas during the serier their were not on such good terms...
anyone else remember?

*sigh* I even made an account here to help you out. Don't know why'd I'd go out of my way to help someone with such an easy question...
anyway, 1st off, Elfen Lied had 13 episodes...and an OVA.
Exhibit A -- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4148
I didnt watch the OVA, cause frankly, the series sucked far too much for me to bother with a side-story.
The OVA takes place within episode 11: Exhibit B -- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5409
I know I'm new here, but I don't see why you couldnt have just looked this up? Wikipedia...AnimeInfo...everywhere has the information you wanted.
sorry if I was harsh.

Thanks for the episode info, honestly I didn't look it up myself because I had no idea where to start... personally I think that the series was pretty good, minus a few inconsistancies, and the whole 'god created te diclonius' thing.
do you have any othr insight to my other questions regarding the end?
and: what didn't you like about it? most of it seemed to flow very well... minus said inconsistancies...

Well, as for the ending or a continuation, wikipiedia says that "The television series... ran for 13 episodes and adapted approximately the first 60 out of 107 chapters of the manga. Episodes 1 to 11 of the anime are in canon with the continuity of the storyline for volumes 1 to 6 of the manga, faithfully adapting most of the events happening in the latter. The last two TV episodes strayed from the manga's continuity and gave an original conclusion to the anime. "
So, given that the animation has already strayed and has given the story a "conclusion", I doubt that any more animation will be made, cause then they'd have to rewind to episode 11 and pretend that episodes 12 and 13 didn't exist.
As for why I didn't like the series, well, there's a lot of reasons.
First off, I don't enjoy watching naked children. Some try to pass off the nakedness in Elfen Lied as "artistic", such as nudity in say Ghost in the Shell or Paprika or other fine anime, but I saw Elfen Lied as pure ****filia/ perversion.
Other reasons being: the series' failure to excell in any category, incest, rape, child exploitation, senseless violence, and an ending that implies that the "bad guy" gets off free and doesn't have to pay for her deeds.
(seriously, the ending was like, "oh yeah, and everyone lived happily ever after together)

"incest, rape, child exploitation, senseless violence"
yes, I do agree that the incestual theme with Yuka was EXTREMELY odd, and wasn't quite getting how she went from loving cousin to over-loving cousin... Kohtas's reaction to the scene in which she asks him if he wants to play with her breasts was a little too mild for someone who was just asked such a question... by a relative..
I also felt that while the theme of all the downtrodden children/people being taken care of by other young adults to be interestig... I really had no Idea why they decided to make something that screwed up for The little girl... Mayu.. was a bit much.
I don't know where your getting rape from cause there wasn't any from what I saw,
The violence was appropriate in my opinion because hroughout her life Lucy was tortured and abused by other children/poeple. Someone with her powers, as well as fragile mental state could very well do something like this... Although almost every other portrayal of anyone not Kohta/Yuka/ Baker was a bit one sided...
either everyone was a plain and simple Asshole, or they were kind and caring... Personally If I saw someoen with horns I would think it was interesting and cool, but kick them over and tell them to move out of my way like a prick.
I understood why there was violence there, at times it was extreme, like the scene were Lucy's dog is beaten to death, but I understand why it is important to the story...
What I really regret not seeing, was the Director killed, cause HE was the one that was ultimately responcible for each and every death caused by lucy and the others...
Based on what I read, you DO think it was Lucy at the door? Because I am 90% sure its her

Hating Elfen Lied for those kind of scenes would be like hating Kite for the 1 or 2 sexl scenes... Pure madness. It's an important part of the whole god damn story, they're there to shock you.

Yeah, that was kind of interesting, but not nearly as touching as the same situation in say, Grave of the Fireflys.
As for the rape, that went along with the child exploitation. Remeber that girl's father who told her to get undressed and then she runs away? To me that very clearly implies rape in the past.
As for "1 or 2" scenes ruining the whole story....well, do you really think the story was good at all? And "1 or 2" scenes? half the time some girl was topless or completely nude, getting a limb ripped off, or killing people. I don't know what deep meaning you saw in the story, but to me the "story" was so simple that it was pathetic. It's liked they took random words and put them together....granted, I repressed all memories of that show, so maybe I don't remember too well.

In short, Yes, I liked the story, there was one thing left unanswered, but overall the underlying themes that I saw was human kindness vrs cruelty, acceptance of different people, and a few others, but that was the big two in my opinion... There was quite a bit of a story there, a good portion of which could have been a little hidden if you hadn't looked deep enough, but otherwise its story was a good one.
I guess you could look at Mayu that way... I knew was abused, but I don't think it went that far... I could be wrong, in fact I probably am on this point, but its a part of the story thats designed to make you feel shocked and pympathize with her actions a little.

Well I didn't say that "1 or 2" scenes was about Elfen Lied, but about Kite. As for the scenes you guys mean are pointless and would be better off without in Elfen Lied, I can't say whether they were important to the story or not, simply because I don't remember much of Elfen Lied anymore. But yeah, I remember having finished the series in one run and that I liked it very much, mainly because of the story.
I'll have to watch it again soon =P
