Mod loader v5 blackscreen (Yes, I deleted META-INF folder)

My brother:
"I installed Modloader V5 onto our desktop computer and it broke the game. Easily fixed by deleting the bin folder but for some reason I can't get any mod whatsoever to work on this computer. I installed it just fine on my laptop last night and even got the portal-gun mod working without issue.

My laptop is running Vista (32-bit), the desktop is Windows 7 (64-bit).

I spent a little over an hour searching for a reason this could be happening but everything lead to a dead-end ending in 'you f***ed up' without any sort of advice."

Un-install and then re-install. That's what I do when mods break my game. Unless you've already tried that and it didn't work :(

he did, and it still didn't work.

We also deleted the entire program from the desktop and copied everything, saves and all, from the laptop to the desktop.
After that it still didn't work, I kept getting a black screen after logging in.
