I love hell 4... honestly and whole-heatedly. However, i must admit i had to re-watch it a few times to grasp it. Because of this fact, initially i felt disappointed. When in reality, it was just because i think because of the projects length and the subtleness in some of the clips, you gain an increasing perception and realization of the components as your number of views increases. (This has a ceiling of around 17 views however...then you just know it by heart...trust me ;D).

But in talking to some others, reading and quantifying posts on these and other forums, i'd like to make an attempt at the reason with some peoples initial disappointment.

*Lack of spoken skits*

This, however, was made clear as the goal of zarx from the beginning however, so i dont know why so many people were expecting a good number of them in the final project. I know most of you remember when it was announced, and you skimmed through the rules only to find that spoken audio was not allowed...than it was changed to be allowed, however, with the stipulation that a music clip was given heavy precedence.

I think spoken audio clips would have broken up some of the monotony apparent later in film (i mean really, otaku can only concentrate for so long). While originally, i missed the spoken audio, i grew to realize the project didn?t need it (not to mention it wasn't ever a priority of the editors to put it in anyway, and ultimately it is their project that they gave us the opportunity to be a part of). While spoken audio clips are HILARIOUS (well...have the potential to be anyway) it wasn't the goal for hell 4 and i think people expected more of them based on their relevance and overwhelming hilarity in Hell 3.

Sorry this post is so long, but to recap...Amv Hell 4 was great, and too many people initially made unjustified comparisons to Hell 3, wrote it off, and didn?t give it the credit it deserves. If you are in that boat...watch it a few more times think about it, i believe you will come to find that Hell 4 is as close to exactly what we needed as zarx could come.

I had not actually thought of that, but you're right: the lack of spoken skits was a bit disorienting. Still, the skits that were spoken were hilarious and among my favorite points in the movie (I especially liked the Full Metal Alchemist/Freddie Got Fingered skit).

One possible reason spoken skits were cut down for this Hell may have been because they are easier to do than music AMVs. With spoken skits, all emphasis goes on the dialogue, but with music, there are several other factors to account for (lyrics, music, etc.). Thus, making and submitting a music AMV is a greater show of editing prowess than a spoken AMV.

I agree as well. The spoken clips have the potential to be great, but may be just as hard as putting in music. Remember, the mouth should be moving along with the dialogue. Music can be thrown in at any scene. Either way, both can be excellent. Or both can suck: "Girlfriend" anybody?

You know what I realised: amv hell 3 actually has more music clips than spoken skits (I counted about 50 spoken ones(out of 220 clips))....hmm, maybe that tells you something

Really I don't care whether it's music or spoken, it just has to be funny/awsome to me....although, I tend to like spoken ones better... ???
