I already put in some submissions but the only thing I noticed is that it's a bit harder to find cartoon episodes to download especially in good quality. I don't know if that's maybe a reason some people can't turn their ideas into amv.

Is teen titans ok? I mean it's Japanese styled but it was produced in America. I have 2 full seasons of teen titans on my PC and like 3 more in DVDs I got off of Amazon.

Yes, usually AMVs made from 90's shows are crappy quality and with numerous watermarks.

Anime-style shows like Avatar The Last Airbender count as well.

Speaking of Avatar, let's not discount photo-realistic CG animation like in James Cameron's Avatar.

Don't forget that this covers European animation and more. Anyone wanna bust out Bob & Margaret, Asterix, The Raccoons, or Mr. Rossi for this?

If you're worried about poor video quality and watermarks, a lot of these shows have since been released on DVD and are reasonably inexpensive.

Anyway, I have a couple of months' worth of backlog of anime skits so while I upload those over the next few weeks my creative effort will be put to cartoon skits.

Don't throw the idea away, but maybe watch the clip so that your idea doesn't just turn out to be a straight copy.

I have a feeling, Zarxrax, you should not put this video on YouTube after completion. YouTube gladly accepts anime but western cartoons would be an easy target for them to remove. Especially whith the diverse amounts of shows used. And if it's removed once it will be again but sometimes they Jew you out of your entire channel because of copyrighted material as we all know.

This is too late to really suggest but might as well say it, anyone thought of using reverse-jokes from the AMV Hell series in this? As in using the clips from an anime used (lets say the Gurren Lagann/Megas XLR clip from AMV Hell 5) and instead using Gurren Lagann opening with Megas XLR?

The reverse of AMV Hell, hmmm...Anti-AMV Hell? Oh I so just copyrighted that idea! lol

That sounds pretty, damn difficult to accomplish. Not to mention that it probably wouldn't be that funny. The Megas XLR theme was funny because it was in English, so we could understand it, and the lyrics were just self explanitory. The theme for TTGL is:
"kimi wa kikoeru?
boku no kono koe ga
yami ni munashiku
suikomareta

moshimo sekai ga
imi wo motsu no nara
konna kimochi wo
muda de wa nai?"

Good luck with that.

Foreign songs are recognizable by their beats and musicality too.

The original joke relied on ones knowledge of the show Gurren Lagann and its similarities to Megas XLR, like the main characters both stumbling upon their robots. So the viewer had at least heard part of the theme song while they watched Gurren before, or not seen the show at all. In this case, the video was just about some kid and robots + a Semi-related song. Without the background knowledge of the animes or songs or shows used, all good two way reference clips fall flat as jokes.

The theme to Gurren Lagann would be equally interchangeable with using Megas XLR clips because the same people who understood the connection in the first clip would recognize the theme to Gurren Lagann if only for the musicality of it. Similar to how you can recognize theme songs from many animes but not know a single lyric.

Lets play guess that anime, this might be hard, some songs are not in english! And it is cheating to read YouTubes suggestions, I worked hard to find versions without the shows title in the title...ok not really.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RqYEe_ohzc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jAipHXsoUI&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAvg0RHJTdA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3pokDHZnmI

Know the shows without cheating? Well good then you would recognize it used with a video from a different show. It's not like the visual changes what you remember from hearing the song. Take that song and add in a video from a different show that has similarities to the anime the song was from and not only did you have your viewers remembering the anime, they are now connecting what they know to the new similar visuals. Not difficult at all, you just have to rely on the song not the lyrics. For a reference like that anyways, there are plenty of other types of references but I just wanted to explain one and why it would easily and effectively work in reverse.

Soooo...yeah it would work very well. Its just like anime clips using other animes songs or audio. Not everyone will get it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKivBbd3teA but only those who do understand, will see what the AMV's artist wanted to show.

That last clip was included in AMV Hell 4 for those who will not look it up or read around the video on YouTube.

I think reverse references could work, there's been a few "other language" amv hell clips that worked just fine (German and a few Indian I believe) Season 2 Mini 3 ended with a Indian Bollywood clip that worked great.

On the other hand

I never saw Gurren Lagenn or Megas XLR when I saw that clip and thought it was brilliant, so I didn't have knowledge of either except for previous amv clips. So previous knowledge is definitely not needed to 'get' the clip if it's well done

Seriously no Batman amvs proposed yet? Guys?
The Animated Series would be fun to do. Especially with One Bad Day by Bobaflex being played around Hamill!Joker. (The Lyrics were taken from "The Killing Joke" by Alan Moore(AKA THE BEST JOKER/BATMAN COMIC EVER) So that would be a neat reference)
and Don't get me started on Brave and the Bold. That **** writes itself.

I would like to know why you thought it was "brilliant" if you were clueless to the source material. Inside jokes just don't work without the knowledge of the joke. If I were to yell, "The Game" at a public area I would get little to no response related to the actual "Game" itself unless someone knew about it (the reference) beforehand. While for some it may bring up a memory of a different "game" the ones who know about it or something.
Now if you thought the video was "brilliant" just because you "liked it" then that's a different subject of its own. Then it would rely on personal tastes for the visuals and music/audio used, not the anime and reference.

But no matter your answer, it proves what I was trying to say from another angle. Some videos just "work", so there's little reason that the reverse use of a joke would work just as well. I have not analyzed the first video in AMV Hell 5 yet but I think it's an example of a video that just "works" with the audio being very slightly or completely unrelated. (Do not hold me to that example, I can easily be wrong about its audio not being very relevant to the video.)

But having a "good" video and having a good "reference" video are two entirely different things. Mainly jokes only work if you know the parts of the joke. Try telling a Chuck Norris joke to someone who has never heard of him and you'll see what I'm talking about. The reference joke fails due to the person not knowing the reference. BUT it doesn't mean the joke wont work, it just means the reference didn't. Same goes here with that Gurren Lagann clip.

Video analysis is such a pain to explain there's just way to much to cover on the subject.

You kinda sound like you're disagreeing with me, even though I was backing you up.... :/

What's with all the psycho-analysing?

The first clip of AMV 5 had an awesome song along with shots of insanely large-breasted girls -I think it would have gotten in even if it used Puff the Magic Dragon as the audio >_<

PS: Thought it was brilliant cause everything happening in the clip related to the WORDS OF THE ENTIRE SONG/intro-theme.

I was focusing on the reference joke in the video towards you. And the first guy I was just telling him that jokes referencing something work in reverse.

I like to look into what goes into making a video. I like to call it the "Evangelion Syndrome." It's pointless but fun to see every little detail.

I completely overlooked that the literal lyrics match.:sweatdrop: It still doesn't change the point I was trying to make. The two way reference jokes and understanding a reference. Besides the reference part of the video I pretty much ignored the rest.
