So now that Sony seems to have PSN back to normal, what has everybody been choosing for their free games on the PS3 or PSP? I have not started up my PS3 or PSP yet to choose yet but plan to pick my games today or tomorrow.

Used it to get Infamous (And finally platnumed it) and Dead Nation. Then my brother got LBP an Wipeout on his account.

Now I have to decide what I'll get from my Japanese account.

You can tell Infamous and Little Big Planet are there just to advertise their sequels. :\

I'm going for Dead Center and Stardust. Because Wipeout looks dumb to me.

I think Sony really dropped the ball on this one. They're abusing their admittedly very unfortunate position to advertise PS+ and some of their newer titles. :\

You don't apologize to your customers by trying to sell them more stuff. That's flat out rude.

ThePsychoGamer

Nooo, they're selling stuff. They're selling Infamous 2, LBP2, and Playstation Plus.

I get that they're trying to reimburse PS+ members. Fair enough, they paid for it and they obviously didn't get what they paid for, and Sony is trying to fix that. I get that. But why on earth are they wrapping this **** up and trying to pass it off as an "apology" when it's quite clearly a marketing scheme? Either apologize for leaking our data or don't, sony, don't try to ****ing PROFIT off of it.

Sony, I am disappoint.

Bah you guys are single-minded, you forget to mention they are offering free credit card protection service as well, and really who cares if they advertising games with sequels coming out you'd complain about any game they'd want to give if it wasn't the one you wanted. And once again its FREE GAMES which they seriously didn't have to do, all they had to do was reimburse + members and appease the online gamers which they did by doubling xp given in shooting and other games. The free games are mostly for the online gamers who can't benefit from double xp
So to recap
Lost trust because of information = credit card protection service
Lost online play = double xp month
Personal grievance/misc. = 5 free games (if you know how to gameshare :P)
All in all I say stfu and enjoy your free 20$ games and plus memberships

Now here's the best part I thought I would download them when I went to sleep and wake up with some games....WRONG. But here's the thing: why did they not just give me that $20 in store credit? So I could buy whatever games I wanted? No, instead it came across as "CHECK OUT THESE FINE OFFERS!"

Either way, they'd lose the same amount of money from the deal. Except this way they promote their more recent games.

Classy, Sony. Real classy.

I think zuiichi meant that to be a part of the credit card protection whatchamahoozit. Which makes sense- I can't really think of another reason to steal someone's identity than to get their monies.

Zuiichi
06-07-2011, 12:46 AM
having to add 20$ to every single online count is too much hassle an it is alot easier to create a page for everyone to enter, and besides not everyone is gonna download a game and that will save some money also

Zuiichi
06-07-2011, 01:06 AM
I'm looking at this from a business standpoint and simply giving out free money to every dick and jane out there is simply retarded, many game creating companies would lose alot of money out of that deal and probably wouldn't want sony to do it anyways. sony probably wanted to make advertising deals with companies in exchange for them supplying their games to users for free and guess who would want to benefit most out of having their games advertised? "ones making sequels?" correct you get a gold star now. "but what about other good games that have sequels?" one word, space, most ps3 games are huge and would take forever to download.
now with all this in mind shut up please god shut up shut up shut up

XelaisPWN

Now you're arugment is just plain WRONG.

Adding $20 to every account would be JUST AS EASY as giving 30 free days of playstation plus. Just add $20 to every account instead of redeeming 2 free games. DONE.

And why can't Sony pay developers/publishers (i.e. "game making companies") out of their own pocket? Hell- why SHOULDN'T Sony pay out of their own pocket? If we're thinking from a business standpoint, they're going to take a hit in sales from this, being that Sony is the publisher of all five games. Nobody is going to buy those five games anymore because everyone will have that for free. Why not take that same net loss and pass it on to the customer? Let that money go to other developers?

And if these games are so ****ing big, then why are they offered to download AT ALL? I get that blu-rays have a LOT of space on them, but clearly these games aren't too big for people's hard drives if they're already offered on sony's online store.

I'm not asking that Sony bend over backwards to make their newer titles downloadable. I'm just asking that they don't make their "apology" so obviously a marketing scheme.

Just throwin' this out there: No matter what, people would still be bitching about how Sony didn't apologize properly. They could have given us any choice of game, and people would still be throwing out these accusations.
Also, the only game I see Sony using as a marketing scheme is inFAMOUS. And honestly, I think Sony is the only company who would give us free, retail games. Microsoft would probably give us Castle Crashers or Alien Hominid, and Nintendo would probably give us an old Zelda or Mario game.

Well given the fact that Xbox live costs money, microsoft would have to at least give a month or so of free xbox live.

You're forgetting about LBP2. And they're giving everyone a month of Playstation Plus. :P And you really can't say what Microsoft or Nintendo would do unless it happens, no matter how well you think you know the company. Honestly, I was expecting nothing from Sony to begin with.

Anyway- oh, yeah, PEOPLE would be bitching. Quite honestly, I wouldn't, though. Even if they gave me nothing. >.>

Hell, Gawker leaked my personal data, and I was all "well, ****." and changed my passwords. Then I survived. Hoorah. And the PSN outage didn't effect me, either, since I didn't play anything online, especially not PS3 games.

I got nothing out of the deal and didn't care. I still use the site today. Personal data needs to be stored, sometimes people get hacked. **** happens.

And I'm not offended by marketing. Ads make revenue. It's a fact of life.

But you just don't combine the two- it's just in bad taste. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not going to stop using sony's services or even stop buying sony hardware or software. But this will definitely make me think twice on whether to buy the Xbox or PS3 version of a game.

It's also worth noting that you're also able to choose a ratchet and clank game in europe (also a franchise with a sequel coming up here) and that, save for Dead Nation, these are all relatively old titles to begin with that probably don't sell that well, anyway.

I haven't forgotten about Little Big Planet 2. I just don't think Sony expects to get sales from it anymore. InFAMOUS 2, on the other hand, has massive amounts of advertizing. And you are correct. I should not be making assumptions about companies.

LawRayLiet

Sony wanted to give everyone some compensation for their inconvenience.

Sony has already lost a lot of revenue from the downtime, and was going to lose even more no matter what content they would've put out.

So they thought up the best way for them to give people free content, and at the same time not hurt the company to bad financially.
They can only give away products produced by themselves(exclusives etc.) so that they only lose potential revenue.
(BTW giving away $20 to the 77million users(do the math) effected by this incident would potentially ruin the company.)

No matter what content they would've given away, a number of people would have complained to already have it or just dislike the games in general.
Sony can't please everyone.

Given the situation, and taking into account the fact that Sony was also a victim to the attack.
I appreciate all that Sony has given us.
As I said before 2 PS3, 2 PSP, and 30 days of free PS Plus was more than generous of Sony. And the rest is just buisness.

I see no reason for complaint, it's all free.

Chillpalazzo
06-07-2011, 04:59 AM
I'm sure that they could have done absolutely nothing to compensate and still be within their terms of use that we all have agreed to. So at least they showed a bit of their values and gave something away instead of nothing.

I'm still not sure whether or not to see sony as the victim. Yes, they were the ones being hacked, but I've also heard that they didn't take the right measurements to prevent it.

If you haven't heard, Nintendo was hacked as well.
No level of security is truly impenetrable.

Everything about their security I heard was speculation.
(Since only Sony and their IT Security know the exact parameters)
I'm sure Sony was at whatever the proper standard may have been.
I'm also sure Nintendo was as well.

But these things happen.

If you left your door unlocked and someone came inside and stole from you, would you not still be a victim?

Sony's doors were locked.
But the hackers still managed to break through.

Sony lost around $172 million because of this "attack".
I think that would qualify them as a victim.

number 1: there are over a million registered users which if you can do any sort of math equals over 20 million dollars to people I don't know about you but that seems like a bit much.
number 2: these games are pretty old and aren't high on a gamers radar of things to get chances are no one will ever buy them but that doesn't mean these are bad games, hell i love bitch slapping in LBP if anything this gave life to their community during the right time. Your right that no one will buy these games now that they are free but truth is you would probably wouldn't have gotten these game EVER.
Number 3: I already stated that these games weren't big and that to be another reason why they are on the marketplace instead of the usual 8+ Gb game (which if ever offered you'd be complaining about how long it would take to download *cough*Mad*cough*)
Number 4: What EXACTLY do you expect a business to do? trying to turn a negative in to a positive is EXACTLY what they should do in terms of sales
Its people like you who follow gossip around spreading it like a virus that hurt my sales in my store >.>.
You know how many ps3's were returned to my shop during the outage? NONE.
do you know how many ps3's were returned to local gamestops all across the city of fresno because of the outage? 1 and that was because the person thought they would get tracked to their house THRU their ps3 >.> I've spent months arguing this with xbox fanboys at my store (oh and by the way microsoft is full of idiots and i have many cases of them being hacked along with anonymous attacking mac users to destroy their "Unhackable" products.
