I was clumsy and tripped over my headphone cord snapping the jack while it was inside 2 weeks back. I still cannot figure out for the life of me how the hell to get it out and it's driving me nuts. On the off chance that anyone here has been in this situation, what's the best way to do it?
Note: It's not in to the point that my laptop speakers are affected.

1) Get a small, thin object
The rest is self-explanatory.

The hole is small and really gives you no momentum to work it out that way. (Audio jack) Unless i don't follow correctly what you're getting at.

try a magnet
It wouldn't attract. (Course it was a refrigerator magnet) XD Honestly, i think it might be too deep in for that to work and i believe those are made out of brass.

find something small put a drop of super glue on the tip and hold it in there and try pulling it out, or the fun part would take the laptop apart but thats a pain in the ass

You could give it to professionals for a nominal fee.

Thought about it but one slip up and i could end up wrecking the jack all together. Andi don't have the balls (nor the steady hand) to dismantle my laptop.

It's second on my list of options but i don't wanna pay out the ass for something like this...(Is cheap)
Sorry if it seems like i'm just shooting ideas down like a jerk but i've went through these options already and weighed risk etc.
I do appreciate the help.

I'd do the glue trick but instead of a glue pull out some good ol' JB weld to do it, But DO NOT try to pry it out cause if its a cheap jack it may have an open end on the other side. if you push the pin in trying to pry it out with a needle with the lappy on you could cross something out on the inside destroying the poor thing. Ultimately I suggest disassembling it.
If you do try to pry it out pull the AC cord out and remove the battery but if you loose the pin on the inside your going to have to take it apart.

JB Weld?
And thanks for the tip about prying it out...Currently my top plan was to make a small hook out of a safety pin and pry from in back of the hole...i might scratch that one now...

Plant a tiny black hole in the base of the audio jack then remove the black hole quickly before future damage but make sure to wait until it has removed the unwanted item.

JB weld is just a brand of 2 part epoxy you can pick it up at any local wally world or hardware store.
Id mix up a batch of 2 part epoxy and take a Q-tip cut the end off then dip the end in the epoxy, then set the end on the 3.5mm pin and wait for it to set (few min) then try to pull it or if the plug is sunk in Id set a small drop in the middle of cut end the best I could and shove it in the hole.

Ah, SMH. Should've known you were thinking epoxy. Sounds good. How much does epoxy cost?

erm it depends you got name brands and generic ****... They all work the same your probably lookin at 3-5 bux...
Another method Id suggest depending on your soldering skills is to attach a wire to the nickel/gold plating and pull that ****er out if you have a fine point iron.

Soldering is out of the question but interesting suggestion. I'll note that one for someone competent at it.
Thanks for the info.

you dont want to take apart the laptop a bit? there is an excelent chance you can open that puppy up to access the effected area. would it be possible for you to post some pics of the problem?

I agree, post some pics, cause I've solved this by using scissors as needle nose plyer, so we need to see how severe the issue is. Get multiple angles of it.

That doesn't solve the issue if its closed off especially if its a bi-coupled jack, Doesn't hurt to look tho :P

most laptop jacks look a little like this so all you have to do push from the other side.
and screw warranty its not like many people ship things back to the factory anyways (besides xbox360 users :P)

Only if that were true... 3.5mm are usually company made specific and in all my years of taking apart **** you are the first to show me a fully shielded 3.5mm jack, 3.5mm in a pc dont count cause their stacked and makes sense to shield it. The jacks are mostly all different by design but all work the same and from looking at the top the metal's creased so Im smelling bull**** on that jack having an open end XD

it from a Dell laptop I mostly get those even though i hate dell >.>
Your not gonna be able to yank it out with regular pliers needle nose or other wise unless you have some good tools like for the ear's eye's and throat doctor
you can either A: get an external sound source like
http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=762
get the end of some piece of plastic or wood like a bbq sker stick and put some loctite or other substance to stick it onto the jack and pull but no guarentees you won't mess something up :P

Thats exactly what I would do. I think it would cost something between 20 and 40 ? and you get a functionally Laptop. And if they damage your computer they are liable.

Ok, so i kept the laptop upright while i tried to pull it out with gel crazy glue and a Q tip (Couldn't find JB weld) and the S.O.B. didn't take and instead sunk deep enough to cut out my stereo. Yeah, i pretty much gave up after that..Went to a geek squad station and i can get it taken care of for 100 bucks which isn't as bad as i thought it'd be so i'll dig into my pockets and quit while i'm behind. Thanks though everyone, i really appreciate the help.
BTW, i was planning to abandon the jack all together and just use a usb audio jack but if this was going to happen eventually screw it!
Edit: WTF was i thinking with that face book link? lol I have no idea how to use that site...
