I'm not going to smoke marijuana, marry another man, or solicit a prostitute, but I don't see why YOU can't. Even a superconservative shouldn't be able to say that, because the government is not your mother.

Thats what I'm saying. I've been waiting nearly two years to be enrolled into a college because of California's damn economy. Besides unlike Cigarettes, Pot is not addicting, and Non fatal. so why are Cigarretes still legal when they are the leading cause of Lung Cancer, when Marijuana is illegal just because they can get you high? (That and it also has Medicinal purposes too)
Sure there needs to be laws, like no walking around smoking the **** in public, or walking around stoned in public, and you must be over 21, etc. (Kids will get drugs no matter if it's legal or not, its up to the school to crack down on the drugs in campus)
I won't smoke it, but it offers an AMAZING opportunity for taxation. And I'm pretty sure people would rather pay huge taxes for it, than go to prison for mere possession of it.

While it's true that they ARE two different effects, they're still both mind altering drugs, and, well, alcohol is definitely the worse of the two. Tons of people (including my grandmother) are killed from alcoholism, while nobody dies from smoking too much weed.

And you're right, marijuana isn't addicting, but alcohol can be. Hell, nicotine even moreso.

If your problem is people not being responsible, then what stops people from being irresponsible with alcohol that we couldn't apply equally to marijuana? Laws regarding public drunkeness and public... stonedness? Laws prohibiting minors from purchasing such substances? I'm just saying that it doesn't make much sense to have the more dangerous one totally legal but the safer one totally illegal. If you can argue that marijuana should stay illegal then you can't argue that alcohol should stay legal. The only reasonable argument is that "you can have a drink or two without getting drunk," but your responsibility argument effectively kills that.
