So I've seen a lot of talk (and contributed to) the topic of whether or not certain animes should be banned.

Now we all have a different top 3. for some its evangelion, daioh, dethnote
For others its evangelion, dethnote, lucky star

For me, ite evangelion, daioh, and family guy.

Now should these be banned? Yes.

They limit creativity as a lot of users go to these because they can't think of an anime that works better for the material.

Will they be banned? probably not. Cause lets be honest. Daioh and evangelion make up 1/3 of the videos in hell.

However, there is still an answer. In the first season of the minis, there was an all azumanga episode. Which amazed me because there was already a unhealth plethora of them in the rest of the season.

So how about this. from now on, each mini is limited to 1 evangelion and 1 daioh. any spill over will be made into its own episode at the end of the series. That way, those of us sick and tired of these series can just skip those episodes.

"But what about the larger episodes? the hour long ones?" The poor orphen boy with scrapped knees calls from the back of the room.

Now limiting these is harder. Because you need a lot of clips to get an hour. so inevitably there will be a lot of evangellion and or diaoh. now I've thought long and hard about this (which is to say I spent 5 minutes on it) but one option would be 1 of each clip every 5 minutes. 10 if you can swing it. post in the forum the limit and then stick to it. once you have 9 or however many clips your going to allow, announce you are no longer accepting clips. any clips you recieve from that point on, inform the artist that you will not include the clip in the movie, but that it will go into the spill over episode.

Anyways, those are my 2 cents. I know I'm not the first to raise this issue as I signed a petition to get evangelion banned a year ago. so now I'm going to try a different aproach. Feel free to poke holes in my idea, or even better, suggest your own. But we really need to come up with an answer to this. I try to use a different anime for each submission I make. Is the harder to do? hell yes. is it worth it? hell! yes! so lets work together to improve something we all love.

An unfunny sound source makes for an unfunny clip. Family Guy is unfunny. Therefore it's apparently banned.

I do contribute. as much as I am able. But I have a job, and school, and my own website to manage. I love amv hell, I just believe we could make it better. But making anything better requires so kind of work. In this case, its pruning.

The thing is, family guy is funny. (maybe not to you, but to a lot of people it is.) Is it overused however, definately.



You see, too much of anything is bad. right now we have too much of 2 things. And we have a way of correcting this with relative ease.

Now I can not stress this enough, I love these videos, and I love contributing to them. This is merely a suggestion of a way of dealing with an influx of videos. To be honest, if we simply did not allow the unfunny ones in, 80% of evangelions would disappear. yet each video has more and more of these.

I guess we've half become spoiled too, we're now all critics on each episode forgetting the very first hell was 5 minutes and had 'bad' clips too

Though I didn't get that clip you mentioned, the way the Bad Episodes were done was ok in my mind. "It's thick, it's hard and it's coming to GET YOU" to Dead Leaves is still one of my favourite clips. You know, it's dirty, but it's not dirty in a way that'll ruin the clip. Like the Elfen Lied clip to "I'm make this pencil disappear" was another great clip.

If there were a limit for source material, say 3* per mini, then the 3 best family guy clips could be used per mini episode, then the rest would carry over to the next episode, same thing with azumanga or evangelion. This way all ideas could be used without the series homogenizing. The most used sources are popular outside of AMV Hells, which is why they are popular in the series; why ban the most universal sources, which most people will understand.

As for re-used clips, they shouldn't be banned outright. If you wanna do another hare hare yukai clip with fitting music then you should be allowed to do that, but the considerations for including it in an episode should be higher. It not only has to be funny enough to get in, but it should be funnier than prior clips that got in. By the way if you know a consistent way to quantify funny, then you are a smarter man than I.

I agree that, there are a lot of overused material on the various AMV Hells, however i remember watching AMV Hell 3 back in 2006 or 2007, and saw a lot of Azumanga clips. I was new to the anime scene since all i ever had been exposed to was the adultswim programming before then so i figured if that anime appeared a lot, then it must be good. I watched it and enjoyed it :D! So sometimes, something being overused is a good thing.

In the case of Death Note in AMV Hell 4, there were quite a few good clips in 4 with Death Note, but it did spoil the series a lot before i was able to watch it. While it wasn't necessarily a bad thing....(Because the series was still good overall), it might've been more annoying to other people.

AMV Hell 5, i can't really remember anything overused, i'm actually pretty sure that nothing was used too much in AMV Hell 5. The only one i could really think of that might've touched that boundary was the Halo song, and that was only about 3 times or so, and all the clips associated with the song were good, so it wasn't a problem. Another one that was overused, that was annoying until i finally got the joke was "Always". I had to research the bit a little but i finally got the joke, and it wasn't bad after that.

When I have an idea, I already have an anime in mind for it. I never jot down an idea unless I can match an anime to it first. But there are so many scenes I see that would either be funnier in another animes hands, or are **** and should not have been accepted at all.

Now this doesn't mean their aren't gems (ie "I think theres something wrong with ****"(can't remember the name in the song)) you do get the occasional one that even makes my comedy cultured heart laugh. But they are so rare! And I'd rather lose the 1/10 good clips than suffer through the 9/10 clips.

the aboslute worst was in amvhell 5, when 2 clips had the same joke( the sonic drowning joke). One was with love hina I think and was pretty good (might have been ah my goddess) and the other was with evangelion and was just a still with ****ty filters. and after the first one which is actualy funny, the evangelion was not only stale, but repititious and shoddy. How can I have clips banned for being choppy, and crap like that gets through? I'll never know.

Yea, i forgot about Evangelion, but i guess that's because i had already watched it before watching amv hell 3. The clip with the first drowning sonic clip was Tenchi, as for which one i don't really know, i also agree that the first one was funny and good, and the second one....wasn't all that great.

had you read all before, you'd know that the whole reason this discussion came up (twice actually) was due to the fact that there was an imbalence of videos. too many evangelion have appeared. far far too many, and most aren't that funny.

Fair enough, but I don't see it as an issue though, yes I noticed some imbalance, but some to me are unnoticable to me not in a bad way though. But if this is the case, reorganizing can be done instead of banning and limiting. But I'm not in charge here, but I think somethings need to be structured properly. The main problem is popularity to certain anime. If there is an anime series that has more popularity than the other well there you go.

that's the problem, their already doing that.

My problem is, that with how high amv hell has raised their standards, there is still a ridiculous amount of unfunny evangelion clips making their way in. if they just left out the unfunny ones, there would be max 3 evangelion clips per season of minis, and maybe 2 per feature length. They simply aren't funny. I don't laugh at them, my friends don't laugh at them, the only one who does (and even his reaction is rare) is the douchebag retard we hang out with (every group of friends has to have one friend way dumber than the others right?).

But hey, if frat fags is amv hells target audience, more power to them. But if their audience is anime fans who actually use their brains, well, they need to seriously limit the evangelion clips. as it is, there is one in every mini. and there is more of them in every feature length than any other anime. This is a bigger problem than family guy, and the fact that family guy was tackled before this is just sad. The fact the so few of those in charge see the problem is even worse.

you see I would, except the overabundance of crap amv's on this site, has made it so that I hate evangelion on sight. I can't stand it. A show I've never seen, and now never can, I hate.

of course, even if I did see it, the show would have no surprises since pretty much every major plot developement has been spoiled in the various amv hells.

and I am not the exception that proves the rule, this is a truth for the rest of my friends who are anime fans who saw amv hell before evangelion. we all can't stand that show. Yes, the show is kinda dumb in Hindsight -the reason it's famous, in Japan at least, is because it was something original at the time and had an artstyle which inspired almost every show afterwards. Then the movie came along and raped every one of the characters so badly no one could believe what the hell they just watched XD

Seriously, not "every major plot was spoiled" and most of the clips come from the movie, so it seems strange to condem the entire show. You make it sound like there's been hundreds of clips, there's probably only around 50 across all the AMV hell vids.

And I just tired of seeing amvs where the one idiot is smashing the chair. Cause that clip alone has been used like 7 times. its the repetition. the constance of it. and if so many of these clips are appearing, I say put a limit on it. (which I think they already do, so they should probably strengthen the limit). the dbz episode? just do that for evangelion from now on, that way we don't have to watch that one if we don't want. so we still get the enjoymant of amv hell without the "bad stuff"

I don't think you need to ban anything but I agree I like to see more obsecure stuff. I think the Evangelion clips are popular because the anime is popular. I think there should be some type of award or incentive for using obsecure sounds clips/anime.

^Agree with this 100% new scenes, new audio, new shows -there's thousands of anime shows (Nadesico is popular but no one has used it yet) and looking at the AMV HELL 0's people here have insane porn collections, so it should be possible to use scenes from those while avoiding the actual porn to get certain jokes together (Gentlemen, Corn!).
