Well oppdis, you can't be a real christian if you don't follow up on him. The Christian religion is based on judgements of people which they do not agree with. If it wasn't because of christians, we would have been much farther with our scientific explorations. The Christian religion has allways been afraid of stuff that were too true to them, and therefor extinquished it. First off, I'd rather there not be a religious argument on this forum, or at least in this thread. If you want one, please start a thread about it. I realize I don't have the authority to tell you what to do on this forum, but I would hope that I do speak for at least most of us in stating this.


However, I will say this much concerning the issue at hand:

"Real Christians" are people who do three simple things:

1) Love God with all their heart.
2) Love their neighbor (which means all humanity) with all their heart.
3) Accept Christ as their savior.

Anyone who's ever told you that you have to do more than these things in order to qualify as a Christian does not understand his own faith. Everything else that's "Christian" is nothing more than ritual, interpretation of scripture, tradition, and convenience.


First off, I will say that I enjoy Dan Brown's novels. Now then, one must remember he writes fiction. Believing that The da Vinci Code is fact is like believing Zeitgeist is fact. Zeitgeist is a work about conspiracy and coincidence. Is there truth to it? Yes, of course there is. But there's only just enough truth to Zeitgeist and The da Vinci Code to make them somewhat believable.


Personally, I'm agnostic (and I'm defending the Christians, go figure). Nothing personal, DicyDax, but I really can't stand when people attack other people's faiths, or when people wave their faith around like an infallible truth. While I do like what that video was arguing (that is, that atheists are not bad people) they leave out the other side of the argument. Plenty of Christian people have done great things. For example: Andrew Carnegie, founder of U.S Steel Co. popularized the idea of the Social Gospel during the Industrial Revolution, a Protestant Christian-based anti-poverty movement. Think of him like the Bill Gates of the late 1800's; a man sitting on a whole pile of money who just gives it away to the poor.

This is another example of Bush being Bush, and by that I mean Bush being an uneducated doofus. America was founded by Deists, not Christians. The "Judeo-Christian principles" found in our Constitution are not original and not practiced solely by Jews or Christians. Deism is the concept of a "clockmaker god," meaning that they believe in a god that created the universe, and then let it run itself.

Mary Magdalene also supposedly wrote her own account of her time spent with Jesus, only it never made it into the Bible because she's a woman. There's a lot of books like this, which all come under the term "apocrypha." Why were these books left out? Political reasons. The early church wanted to shape it as it saw fit, and these books stood in the way.

Also Dax, seeing as you're an athiest, I of course don't expect you to believe in the Bible, the teachings of Jesus, or any of that. Also, I understand why you feel Christians are responsible for so many violent and evil things. I myself am a part of the southern Baptist denomination of Christianity, a denomination that some have long since associated with racist and intolerant mindsets due to the actions of a smaller sect of people. It often seems that, with any form of organized religion, there are those whose viewpoints are extreme to the point of falling outside the initial teachings altogether (be they Muslim suicide bomber or self-rightious church-goer) who will in some way large or small taint that religeon. Such was the cause that first spurred Martin Luther towards the founding of the protestant faith.
But I digress. To keep from obscuring my point amidst exposition and such, I'll sum up: the foundations of Christianity are just as Arden listed above (though I must point out that Jesus was not "possessed" by God, but rather his physical manifestation on earth). Therefore, any actions that go against those foundations cannot be construed as being spiritually prompted, but instead the result of sinful influence and manipulation. The afformentioned "ignorance" you spoke of likely shines through such despicable elements, but is not one that I or my fellow Christians aspire to emulate. In the end, such an issue is not easily resolved by any means, least of all an internet forum (then again, the Lord works in mysterious ways). All I really feel I can do for now is ask that you try to understand my point as I have attempted to understand yours. It's been my experience in the past that for one to cease to fear something, one need only aim to understand it.

The "man possessed by God" thing is simply my interpretation. It's another way of stating "the physical manifestation of God," or at least that's what I intend it to mean. Also, Dicy, while I agree with you that the gov't does not tell the populace as much as it should, one must remember that the Constitution itself was written in secrecy. Yeah, okay, so maybe there are some things in anime that aren't right (we've all seen Hell 0, or at least know what it's about), but that goes against all the great stuff it's got going for it. I'm pretty sure that petition is a joke made by an anime fan, the phrase "Love Hina-fueled rampages" gives it away. I've seen a lot of joke anti-goth sites run by goths to make fun of conservative idiots. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's serious or not, but generally the joke sites are suspiciously well-informed, or slip in a few in-jokes.

However, I'm sure there a lot of conservative idiots out there who would like to ban anime for real.

One of the reasons I really like UT 2k4 is the utter ineffectiveness of camping. And the fact that most of the guns could win against each other given the proper circumstances and/or skillful use. This is especially true of the shock rifle.

One amazing thing about anime is that it has a more in-depth story line then regular television. as in the characters actually have feeling, apart from D.C and Marvel comics where its like "DUDE ITS SPIDERMAN!"
(then spiderman gets kicked around, saves the day and repeats the process with a new villain)
and if this made no sense, its really late my time, and I'm in one of those late night forum red-eye moods...
