Hello all... I was in dire need of a new computer, and came across a iMac G4. The link to the model, etc. is here...
http://www.apple.com/support/imac/g4/
I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on what kind of non-linear video editing software to use...
I want something good, but does not need to be "Professional-Grade" Quality (Im not planing on making the next blockbuster here... Razz)
Price is a limiting factor, but I will be willing to consider springing to a higher quality package if it's good
Thanks a lot!

My friend bought a Mac and Final cut Express....but he doesn't like it as much as Vegas
With a mac, I think the only real choices are Final Cut (pro or express), Adobe Premiere Pro, and ImovieHD
Final cut express is $200, Imovie comes with macs, and Adobe Premiere Pro is $850.
Is Imovie good enough? Haven't ever tried it myself...
(anyway, if I were you I'd just dual boot windows and run Vegas.)

MAcs are solid computers, but their downfall comes from lack of third-party support. In this day and age, you can't do that. What's strange is that Apple has a product with third-party support, and because of it, it dominates it's market. It's called an Ipod. You can get all sorts of stuff for one from anyone. It's not the best player out there, but since people are bombarded with "Ipod ready" devices, it only makes sense (to them) to go with the Ipod. The Macs, by contrast, are the exact opposite. Everything you need comes directly through Apple. Hell, if they would just not make their software so "closed door", they could get a foot hold against Windows (though we would see a lot more Macs having the same problems as PCs if they did that).
Whew! What was the question? Sorry. I just go off on those rants occasionally. To actually answer your question, your best option (as far as price) would be iMovie, since it comes with your Mac (and I hear it's much better than Windows Movie Maker). As far as converting to a format that can be used in a compilation, we are still working that out...

If it saves things to a relatively common format, im sure there is a converter out there that would be able to run. If there isnt really a good one for macs, then perhaps they could submit the thing with an added .txt file asking for a conversion.

I won't be sucked into childish debate over which one is better, since that is not the topic. You can't make me. I won't do it. Whoops! I think I dropped something that was posted earlier: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff260/UNOwen/Random%20pics%20found/imacfp.jpg

What? Whats your computer made of? 1980 Commander er Commedant? or whatever that old comptuer was?
Computers, even 2 years ago were in the range of 900-1000, unless you built one yourself, or got a really crappy one.
I would not buy a mac if it was the last piece of technology on the planet. AND! I've seen that fisher price picture before lol.

And, yes, I am not the creator, nor original "finder" of this image. Like I said, I found it on this board a couple months ago. Reposting for epic win.

No, it was a pretty good computer, it was an Intel Celeron 3 Ghz computer with a plain CD drive and only 40 GB hard drive and only 256 MB ram. I put in my old computer's DVD and CD-R drives, 1 GB ram, and a 200 GB hard drive that I got for $30 and squadella, pretty nice computer.
Actually, now that I look in my checkbook, that was 2 years ago.

That what I'm going to do. Its like 2 yrs old, but was 3k in its day... with a little work, I'm sure I can turn it into a really nice MAC.

Um... What?
How can you turn a PC into a Mac...?
The best you can make a Mac is to give it 4gb of RAM. Thats it. Thats the only modifacation your allowed to do. Its totally incompatible with EVERY PC component, because you know, Mac is sooooo customizable.
Unless you mean download the Mac OSX, and I don't even know if you could even DO that, from both a legal standpoint and by actually getting it to work.
In short: You can't turn a PC into a Mac (although you could probably make it as stupid as one), and you can't turn a Mac into a PC.

Celerons aren't that bad. It's run every game I've ever felt like playing smoothly. (well, except for Super Smash Brothers Melee, that was only about 10fps.)
