I want to start making clips like the AMV clips but the only video editing software i have will not let me do this, any suggestions on what program to use?

First off, what program do you use?
You can do a lot with not too much

I have Power Producer, which will allow me to change the audio tract but it wont even let me edit the video portion at all. I also have studio 8 (i think it was called that) lying around somewhere but before when i tried to use it it just errors out or wont render or puts a white line through 70% of the video but ill try reinstalling that (it was on my old computer). But still would like to know what others suggest to use because as far as i know with the two i mention you can only add writing over top of the videos but not objects (like how in some of the amv videos the lips are the only part of the video that is changed)

Pinnacle Videospin is the best you'll get for Windows without paying or pirating.

Pinnacle's ****. You'd be better off with WMM.

WMM is absolute garbage. Pinnacle is actually functional if you know what you're doing.

I agree with Iss.
I can actually make something half decent with WMM.

I went through all the free NLE's out there to make some gameplay videos. This was my experience with most of them:

Pinnacle, despite a somewhat clunky UI got the job done for me. It's like having a very basic, stripped down version of Premiere.

I liked WMM cause it actually TOOK the crap I gave it from the AMVapp.

It also ****s with your audio. Automatically stretches it to 1.5x its original duration. The fact that you can't undo or turn off this "feature" is the reason I even had to spend all those hours DL'ing free programs.

Dude, I got the best version of Pinnacle Studio they had at the time (10) for 100 bucks. then when i try to import video, i need a codec for just about everything. each of which is another hundred. and it renders frame by frame. it takes about five seconds each frame. i went to make a dvd of silence of the lambs and letr it render for a whole day and i was still in the opening credits.

I DL'd a bunch of crap for a school project, but if you can work with WMM, it can be a good program.
Still sucks balls compared to anything you pay for, though.

Lol wut? I use the free version and have only had one file (an mp3 of all things) not load properly. Slow rendering is probably a matter of RAM or processor power, my 5 minutish videos were ready in 10 or so. Making a DVD is more something you should use Daemon Tools (free) or Nero (pay) for anyway.
Although I suppose since you've got the purchased version we're talking about two different programs. I used the free one.

I'm not convinced slow rendering is the program's fault. How much RAM do you have?

So ture. Still going to kill you for saying that before me though.
Im running with 2048 mb of ram and AMD 64 x2 BE-2300 (overclocked at 2.7GHz) so rendering doesnt really take too long. The graphics card is far from wonderful, but as far as im concerned it doesnt affect video editing (Radeon HD-2400 PRO)
And if you dont want to buy/pirate and just go free... just dont do anything. You'll just get aggrovated and in the end you'll say "f@ck this ****".

My computer :) just bought it in the summer (ordered parts and built it my self)
Processor: Intel P4 core 2 dual extreme 6600 running at 2.5 GHZ (i havent bother clocking it yet)
Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTS running at 640MB (havent had to clock it yet)
Ram: 2gigs of ram set up in parallel
Motherboard: Abit pro
Sound card: XFi Fatality? :)
Only thing i lack is an HD monitor.
oh also like 1.3 tb of hard drive space (though 600+ gigs of anime and manga are on it)
I dont think i left anything out.
But just on a side note this computer actually cost 1337 plus tax, no joke.
