"I've been questioning this, really... Is Apple really what it used to be? Isn't Apple turning out to be in some ways worse than Microsoft? Isn't Apple somewhat ignoring progress?

If you disagree with the previous statement, let me ask you: when was the last time you saw Apple releasing a useful upgrade to its iLife suite? When was the last time you saw an iMac upgrade with useful new features? (not the redesigned, enclosure, please! XD) When was the last time you saw the iPod line getting significantly upgraded? Two? Three years ago?

Of course Apple still does some pretty good work... and pretty elegant products but what we've been seeing is too stylish stuff with much less features than the competitors. This is not Apple we used to know: we're used to nice and easy-to-use Apple products that have more features than the competitors. Something's changing here, don't you think?

And, by the way, only a mac fanboy will say that a MacBook Air is a full-featured notebook, because it isn't: no optical drive, 1.83 Core 2 Duo maximum... I remember the PowerBook G4 introduction, in 2001, where Steve Jobs made fun of that kind of extremely stylish products, with half of the features. Also, please, the iPod classic is anything except a major upgrade to the previous generation iPod video. It's just an iPod video with a new hardware and software skin... I won't even comment the iPod shuffle "upgrades".

I was never much of an apple fan but there are somethings they do better than microsoft and still do but I think both companies are going down hill, maybe they're just a bit too cmfortable.

Actualy i think microsoft is going up hill.
Windows vista SP1 adds sooo much more to the expeirance(in terms of stability)
Windows live absolutley rocks my world.
WL Mesh makes me stat to think MS is the innovator =/

I have a...umm...G4, I think, which runs fine for browsing, but I have no earthly clue on how to get it to do anything else.

Vista sucks sweaty donkey balls, but it hasn't really hurt Microsoft's dominance of the OS market, and considering their recent success in gaming I'd say they're at least as strong as they've traditionally been. If their next OS is a clunker look for Linux, which continues to improve over time, to rise in popularity.

for the most part alot of the major companies are in decline, their biggest competition has been themselves.

Apple does what apple does and has anyone bothered to try and challenge them, not really. This leads to stagnation, decay, and lastly failure.

As for Microsoft and vista, i still can't see why it takes the resources it does to run the damn thing, the restrictions it places on other software when it comes to their ability to manage the resources they need is unnecessary and screws any game older then vista itself unless it gets some serious patching.
No hate on Vista, i'm just used to managing these things myself and not having some automated system override everything and make it harder to do what i do.

fish sounds like a fine name, hopefully it doesn't smell like one.

With OS's you can't really look at one of the companies individually. One declining means the others are expanding because there are really only 3 options out there. People aren't going to just say "**** this computer ****" because OS X or Vista doesn't suit them, they'll use an older version or switch to a new OS.
